  1. It is indeed sad that where we are in Malaysia or South East Asia, it will be tough to garner a colossal number of 300 geocachers to express their willingness to attend an Mega/Block Party Event. A Mega Event has never happened in this neck of wood. For us to go to the USA or Europe would cost dearly bearing inind that the exchange rate at the present moment 1 USD/Euro is about the equivatent of RM 5. So it will cost a bomb for any of us to attend. I support the suggestion to let one or 2 geocachers in those areas with less geocachers to organise one. Some of us are Premium members too.
  2. Finding is one thing. Setting a cache is another problem, especially if you get a pain in the arse Reviewer.
  3. I hope that you're not getting too discouraged. I enjoyed your Friendship Garden cache in Kuching. It was a lovely spot that I am sure I would not have visited if not for your cache there. I am getting discouraged, actually. Not the first time. I was in New York last year. Managed to find a few in NYC and NYS in Tallman Mountain area.
  4. And geocaches who talked about ants guarding the cache when I as the CO knew that there is no ants there. Yup. Seen a few liers around.
  5. And what is in it for a Cache Owner(CO)? It is just the satisfaction of knowing that people go to the cache that you placed and the knowledge that I have brought someone to a place of interest. Unlike a geocacher who has the number of cache found listed beside his name, a CO has no bragging rights because the number of geocaches he placed is not even listed besides his name. A CO also doesn't get a message from the site owner saying kind words about the good number of caches he placed or a pat on the back for a job well done. Good and kind words from geocachers who found and appreciated the caches are few and far in between except for the TFTC which just seems like a passing phrase. Instead, a potential CO could face questionings and and obstacles in publishing new caches just because 3 out of 20 caches placed could't be properly maintained due to change in jobscope where travels to that is has been few and far in between. Becoming a detective for a missing TB? No, I would not but I have tried to do it previously as the TB owner asked very nicely. There was even one geocacher who insinuated that I as the CO might have taken the TB and kept it just because he couldn't find the TB in my cache even though it has been listed as being in there. So is it worth it being a CO? By the way, I am now working in Kuala Lumpur and have been here for 1.5 years. I had placed 2 new caches in the City centre. The cache has not been published as the Reviewer wanted to know how long I would be stationed in KL. Would I know? Would everyone know how long their posting to a place would be? So I am still debating if I should just remove the cache and save myself all the hassle as a CO.
  6. Hello hello hello. I am still but am now based in KL.
  7. I tried to shift my cache (GC3RHX8 Lawas Waterfront) from N4 51.432 E115 24.479 to a better and safer spot at N4 51.345 E115 24.476 as the old one has been muggled. Unfortunately, the geocaching site refuses to let me change the coordinate with the following message Based on the calculation I done here http://www.fai.org/distance_calculation/, the distance between the original and new coordinate is only 160.4m. Any idea?
  8. I am Malaysian and I am still active.
  9. I only started reading this forum to try to see the current GC issues. There are a few Malaysian geocachers here . So far I have met Turbosnail, robojsl and offseid.
  10. The obvious choice would be the CO's, but if not all of them join in, it's not really going to work. Since Groundspeak doesn't recognize FTFs, I doubt this will happen any time soon... The CO's don't get any recognition for the number of cache set as it is but need to be burdened with all this extra work? Geez
  11. In the small-world department, so did I - a cache just outside Kuching. But you win in the distance department, because apparently the shortest path from NY to Borneo is right over my house in western Canada. So I went to the tropics and found a cache 12691 km northwest of home. North - to the jungle! I still have a hard time getting my head around that great-circle stuff. Very cool. I had looked at that cache and considered the possibility of trying to find it during the one free afternoon I had that week. I'm surprised that BernGPS didn't find it (he may have looked for it but didn't log a DNF) when he found the other cache in that area. He's the CO for the Reservoir Park, and China Friendship Garden caches. Hi NYPaddleCacher, First time I really read the forum here. Surprised to see my nic mentioned here. Yes, I did try to search for the cache that Viajero Perdido FTF. But with 2 young daughters in tow and the hoards of mosquitoes demanding for blood donation on top of a muggle friend waiting at the Prayer Centre, I gave up searching after 30 minutes. I didnt log a DNF cos I will return some day.
