  1. I have no problem with the speed of the recalc, really fast. I have a problem with how long it takes to decide it's off route to initiate the recalc. Thanks for the responses so far.
  2. I have just bought this unit. I am not new to GPS having owned many before including the GPS V which I still have. I have noticed that the routing performance of my 76 is way below that of my V. The 76 takes ages to realise I am off course, does not give enough warning for approaching turns etc. I have just travelled a route with both the V and the 76. The V beeped away merrily keeping me up to date all the time while at times the 76 kept quiet even after a number of turns. I have reformatted the SD card, loaded new maps, factory reset etc. I hope that this is a faulty unit because I cant accept that it can perform worse than the long in the tooth V. Any comments out there?
  3. Thanks for the reply. That's not good news. What are you planning to do about it? Today I went off route purposely, travelling a road parallel to what was indicated and was never told once I was off route for a couple of miles.
  4. I have just bought the 76 having upgraded from a GPS V. I have been testing the unit on known routes to and from work. It seems that the 76 is very slow to realise that you are off route. If I miss a turn, I can then trvael a good few hundred yards and pass a number of turns before it realises I am off route. Once it does the recalc is super quick compared to the V. Could this have someting to do with the Mapsource mapset I have loaded or is it more something to do with 76 itself? Thanks Joel
  5. Thanks guys for encouraging me to get out there and look. I now have my first log posted on the site having found 7 segment. There are many more very close to home and I hope to go after these as well. I still have 2 nice sites where I could hide my own should the need arise for more caches.
  6. All comments noted. Having read quite about it here I thought I knew what a good cache should consist of. However if the requirement is that I need to find some before being allowed to hide one then it may not happen at all!!!
  7. Hi, My first post here. I have been playing with GPSr's ever since the Garmin GPS II was launched (also had the III, III+ and now the V which will sonn be replaced by maybe the 76Cx). I have visited this site with interest a number of times but have never gone looking for any caches. To put something back into the sport I am able to hide a cache in a municipal park near my house (Johannesburg N Suburbs) that's easy to monitor but I want to know if this is the kind of spot that the folks here would be keen to find. Also, with the human traffic through the park if this kind of cache would last. Cheers Streak
