  1. 0530 here in eastern Canada. Stats still busted - have been for at least a couple days now... any movement from the Tech side yet?
  2. True, and to be fair there are many more geocachers paying premium fees to support geocaching that will never use the Waymarking site. The answer to this issue was posted in the Waymarking forums just a few minutes after my first post. The fix is in the works, so we just wait it out. Agreed. I, for one, make extensive use of both. Still, it would be nice if GS would have simply posted a "we're working on it" responses instead of "We're much too busy..." Cheers.
  3. A premium geocache listing service and not the Waymarking site, which I believe that we should not depend on Geocachers supporting Waymarkers. I have not received any emails for some time now, and it has not effected me from reviewing or listing any new Waymarks. The site breaks often and it's easy to find work-arounds most of the time. You Sir, are mistaken. There are those that pay Premium fees that rarely, if ever, geocache. However, that is not the point. Tech support for whichever site you use should be fair and equitable. If unable to be provided, Groundspeak should say so, not keep their site users in the dark, so to speak. THAT is my biggest beef. And by the way, Groundspeak took over the Waymarking.com site many years ago. It is yet one more facet of the "game", and available whether you pay premiums or not. If you choose not to use it, so be it.
  4. I too would be open to being an Officer. I've been at this for a few years now, and am interested in the review aspect. (Who knows how many current WM's I've 'cleaned up" over the years . Think this category would be perfect for all the non-traditional houses of worship out there. Sign me up _
  5. I've been a member of the geocaching world for over 11 years now and Waymarking for about 5 years. I realize that Geocacahing is the moneymaker, but Groundspeak is also supposed to support Waymarking as well. The email system that is vital to Waymarking has been down for over three days now. When (paying!) members try to report it all we get is the standard: "Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Waymarking. In order to support the rapid community growth of Geocaching.com in the past couple of years, it has been necessary to shift previously dedicated resources from Waymarking to Geocaching. Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to provide limited technical support. Please try posting your question in the Waymarking forums. These forums are monitored and can usually provide you with the best support. Sorry that we can't be of more help at this time." Love the last line...what are premium members paying for, then? BTW - this same tired response has been sent out for at least the last 4 years. Must be one hell of a GC boom going on. Sorry to vent here, but I'm pretty sure NO-ONE on the tech side of the world is even aware of the problem, because of that dadgum (GS's replament word) fire-wall message. Hoping someone will at least take pity on us waymarkers....
  6. Modern technology.. guess the game is getting too fast for this old guy. What the heck is an api?
  7. Another cacher and I looked for a recently-published 1/1 cache (were on scene within 20 min of notification). After 45 mins of fruitless searching we concluded it had probably been muggled already (next to a playground in a public park...hint said "apples"-there were two apple trees nearby - both with knotholes, climbable etc) Coords took us to the middle of a field next to a small maple sapling. Not the first time we've been beaten by a supposed 1/1 - probably won't be the last. Now here's where it gets interesting... when I went to log the DNF (with pics) I was surprised to see it "Found" by a new cacher with 15 finds... I was a little suspicious, given the log only said "Found it" with zero details. Seeing as how the CO only had 17 finds, I decided to check the finders logs....and saw that his last GC.com log-in was 15 August, 2015. Furthermore, ALL of his finds were after the date of last log-in. How is it possible to log finds on this site without logging onto the site?
  8. Oh yeah, we have a couple around here who "Just happen to be in the neighbourhood" at 3 AM, 300 miles from home, in a blinding snowstorm, etc etc.. Whatever. If that's the case, then all the more power to 'em. When somebody starts paying me to be FTF, then I'll worry about it.
  9. Trying to do a search for a member using the Forum search feature. Can get the first page listing 25 names. Says there are 112 files, but 2nd and all subsequent (total 5) state No Files Found...
  10. Hello all. I'm curious as to what can be done to update scavenger hunts where some of the waymarks either no longer exist, have been updayed, or plain been archived. I'm working on a couple that require 100 waymarks, and am close to finishing. However, a couple waymarks I need to finish have been archived. any help would be appreciated. Jiggs11
  11. Hi all. I'm looking for a fellow waymarker/geocacher in the UK/EUROPE that would be interested/willing to help complete my requirements for a find in this category. My trail name equates into Coords N 54 44.711, which runs through UK south of Sunderland, north of Belfast, NI, and eastward through Denmark, and then into the Lithuania area and finally Russia. Russia. Anyone available to take a pic ANYWHERE along that line of Latitude? We both would qualify for the Waymark find. Thanks, Jiggs11
  12. I think the majority of the frustration stems from a lack of communication from these so-called lackeys....come on folks, why all the secrecy? This sounds like the GP who wants to try "just one more cure" before finally sending a patient off to the specialist.
  13. Site worked long enough to submit three waymarks and MOST of the 4th.. trying to upload last photo and got this message... gee, didn't think my pics were THAT big Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Out of memory. 14. So how is it that the site keeps publishing new WMs when one can't even access it? And why all the secrecy from GS/WM? I got an other source. And the interesting thing is that you can inspect sources an compiler output. So might start reconstructing the website ;-). This kind of info should never go outside, so it looks they are working hard to fix and are getting desperate, so loosing attention to keep safety procedures in place...
  15. What the hell is all this mess? Get this when I try to opn My Waymarks... Server Error in '/' Application. 16. Gee , you'd think these guys would have the decency to at least let us know what (if anything) they're doing to fix this mess up...
  17. Doesn't surprise me. I reported a server 500 error a while ago and the response I got was that all their resources are being used by the "improved" geocaching features and there's no-one left to work on this site, so suck it up... I follow both hobbies and am a premium member. I would expect my resources to cover both disciplines, not one over the other. If they don't have enough "boots on the ground" to do this, then someone is mismanaging...
  18. Keep getting this message : HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. Started about 2255 EDT. Jiggs11
  19. Wow, I tried Franklin Tennessee and it worked as advertised. 327 caches and the map shows and stays on Franklin. However, if I type in Franklin, Tennessee with the comma, the cache list goes to 171 total and is centered on Winchester, TN. Programmers...???
  20. What are you using for a browser? I'm not seeing the same issue. I did notice something kind of odd though. If I put in "Franklin, NY" I get 372 results but if I leave out the comma I get 171. It looks like the geocoder returns a different set of lat/long coordinates depending on whether a comma is entered. Entering Franklin, Tennessee also returns 171 caches. I'm pretty familiar with geocoding services and have developed applications that use them and am curious if GS is going to rotate using different services or if they're going cough up the money and stick with one, reliable service. If so, specific documentation on how to enter city, state/province, country strings would be really helpful. I'm using IE11 currently, but have had the same issue with Google Chrome. I also tried variations such as Franklin, TN, Franklin Tenn and Franklin, Tennessee. I used two geographically separated PCs with the same result. Also, the old version does not show this error.
  21. I am using the new (improved?) search function. When I do a search for Franklin, TN (no filters) I get the list of caches for that location. However, when I use the map these results function. I get a map of franklin, with the associated caches. HOWEVER, almost immediately, another map of Winchester TN (some 200 Mi E) is superimposed. That would be well AND GOOD IF I WAS ACTUALLY CACHING THERE, BUT I'm NOT!
  22. I too have this same problem...I'm now not able to load Maps, do a search, etc without these gawdawful oversized boxes everywhere. If I'm trying to do a search why on earth would I want to look thorough a monstrous list of other options before getting to the Map (which doesn't work in IE anyhow?) Another case of the techno geeks at GS forgetting about us retro types. What are we paying premium prices for if we can't access the items we need through IE or other "lesser" search engines? Why on earth did you mess with a good thing? Disgusted...
  23. Add me to the growing list of discontnted members with this "new" search engine. Seems to me its pretty much a glorified pocket query. I too prefer to look at an area (big or small) and then figure out where and what I want to go for. I tried the filtered approach, and did an "only" search for NV....aparently there are now only about 200 caches in the city of Las Vegas (there should be about 2000). If I wanted just a random search, I would have asked for one.... I too also miss the listed cache page... seems like a lot of geekism being brought forward at little to no gain...
  24. I just received the same error message. Looks like a system error...Big Heads????
