  1. We're borrowing a yellow etrex at the moment... when we buy our own, I'd like to get one that has WAAS so there is a little greater accuracy available when we wanted it. (Currently thinking we'll get a non-color etrex legend, as it's a price difference of $30-40 online, which would be worth the reduced frustration.) I really like the ease of use... though it really likes to give us 50-60 feet accuracy around here, and that margin of error gives us a LOT of ground to cover sometimes. I'm looking for a cable, though, because entering them all by hand gets tedious after the first 10 or so.
  2. I don't read their suggestion as -not being able to find the links- since the poster explicity states that they see "many to choose from". It appears that they are inquiring about the preferred method of contact... and requesting that the preferred method of contact be highlighted. Example: Many company websites have different emails/phone numbers/addresses that go to different people, different departments, or even different states. An email sent to the billing department is unlikely to quickly resolve a technical problem. Apparently, the poster doesn't want to make the mistake of choosing the wrong method of contact and having that contact fall into a no-man's land. As for me, I have no idea of all contacts and emails would end up at the same location or not. It's quite an impressively done website, and is rather easy to navigate, which definitely lends the impression that there are likely a large group of people "behind the screens".
  3. There are two different contests. One is the jeep photo contest, the other is a regular sweepstakes where you submit contact info to enter. When the jeep page first went up, there was a link on one of the main pages to get to that email update page. I signed up for it. After everyone started asking about if it was available, I went looking for the link, and it has disappeared. It's the same page as was posted above. Am really hoping they (or someone) gets a search working... wishing for a jeep in my area, and it doesn't look to me like there are hardly any out in Oregon at all yet. And going through page by page... well, my patience limit for that is about ONCE.
  4. Just one item at a time isn't any different then selling items worldwide on eBay. No big deal. Just remember to charge enough shipping so you don't shortchange yourself, and if there is a tag/shipping label thing, often writing or marking "gift" is the norm so they don't get charged an arm and a leg in fees, depending on the country--- some countries the fees are outrageous. Permits and the like are for people doing large $$ amounts or quantities, neither of which generally characterize person-to-person sales.
  5. Don't know where in Oregon you guys are, but we sure haven't gotten our normal constant moisture over here in the Gorge this year. Been enjoying all this nice, pretty sunshine... and do NOT want the rain back. Or really, wind either. Want to have lots and lots of time to go out caching.
  6. [laughing] not sure who did whatever, but they're all funny, that's for sure.
  7. Oh, oh, oh... now I really want to get up that way to go caching sometime! Those dragon tracks sound fascinating.
  8. Eeeeew. I think I've left and decided to come back some other time... like after the next ten or so rainstorms.
  9. Might be more effective to go ahead and hunt it, and when you log it, question publicly their reason for making it MO... because then you would not just have the cache page to base your disagreement with their "purpose" or lack thereof, but a physical visit to the site and contact with the actual cache.
  10. Does anyone know if there is a list of 2004's locations anywhere? (Won't bother asking about 2003, since apparently that was a disaster.) Searching gives me far too many places to wade through, at least from my keywords... either in the forums or elsewhere.
  11. Hm. Actually, we're "sort of" in that boat. We have a four-year-old hand-me-down computer, internet access cause the neighbor in the duplex pays it and lets me use it in exchange for keeping her 'puter running, and a intermittantly borrowed non-WAAS gps. And we're still having fun. And wish we could help support the site, but can't justify it at this time. Most weekends, we can't justify gas money, either, so we suggest outings with people who have room in their car for us, or make stops on trips we have to make for other [necessary] reasons. And yes, unfortunately, I'm serious.
  12. We have both public and privately owned cemeteries here. One is an old, recently restored pioneer cemetery that few people know exists. I've been tempted to check out the restoration to see if it might be a good cache location, and check with the owner if it looked as though there were potential. The public cemeteries here, people do frequent, as they're quite beautiful locations full of history. We spent some time this morning wandering through 3 (or 4, depending on how you count) of them. There's apparently a large cemetery somewhere that people jog and even blog in via wireless. (See notforprophet on Xanga.) IMO, causing damage is criminal. Simply being there and enjoying the location [in whatever manner you prefer] is not disrespectful. Far more offensive is to stay away and pretend it doesn't exist. And all too many people do that.
  13. Caching definitely has some similarities to RPGing... maybe THAT's why it caught my interest so well... puzzle/hide and seek type things always do. I've got some ideas of my own for caching-related real-world projects, but RPGs hadn't occured to me. Go for it and let us know!
  14. Haven't had it yet, knock on wood. My ex was very reactive to it, so I am thinking I need to finally learn what the darn stuff looks like to hopefully keep from dragging the kids through it. I've always been one of those who doesn't pay any attention to it.
  15. We've only logged a few so far, but I guarantee you, the kids are the ones attempting to drag me out. Case in point: It was pouring rain last weekend, and COLD, and I was not feeling well, and I heard at least a dozen separate times... "are we going to go do that hide-and-seek game today?"... from just ONE child. Another was very excited to learn there are several in some of our favorite places... I just wish my car got better gas milage so we could go as often as they want to. We're not really interested in the objects, though we'll trade if something catches our eye... just the finding.
  16. I'm local to the Hood River area... if you want just a day trip, I'd suggest visiting several here in the area. The pipeline area (powerdale to locals) is nice, but I can't see an eight hour round trip just for it... I think you'd be happier giving yourself at least one overnight if not a whole weekend, and hit a bunch of the gorge ones. There are so many here that it's going to entertain us for a good long time, even though so many are in places we know well, but never knew there were geocaches there. A hint, though... if you do wait til later, warmer weather, and want somewhere to stay, try to plan ahead, even if camping. This place gets just a mite crowded with tourists.
