  1. What the heck happened to the map? Thats how we plan our cache trips for the day!
  2. Let me relate my experience from last week end. My wife and I did the "Four Cache Loop" in Texas. This is a 10 mile plus loop. About 1.5 miles into the hunt it started to rain HARD, and lasted until about .25 mile from the end. We have three GPSRs, an ETrex, a Legend and a Magellan 315. The ETrex was almost useless. Most of the time it could not hold the sattilite lock with the tree cover and very heavy clouds over head. The Mag 315 never lost the signal once and the batteries lasted the hole 7.5 hours it took to finish the hunt. I didn't even take the Legend out of my pack. Once we completely lost the trail, without a working GPS we would have been in trouble. We found all four caches and except for the rain , we had a great time. Until that experience, I figured one worked as well as another but not any more. We have 333 finds and 9 hides to our credit. [This message was edited by TerraTrekkers on April 22, 2003 at 09:31 PM.]
  3. What difference does it make what language it's in? They found something that did not belong to them, they knew it and they took it anyway. They are thieves in any language as far as I'm concerned.

  5. I had always wanted a GPS but really had no use for one. I saw a story on TecTv about geocaching and that was all the excuse I needed. We now own 2 Garmins and one Mag 315. Need I say more? Live long and geocache.
  6. You can also upgrade your eTex operating system. You can use it in conjuction with some mapping programs such as Microsoft Streets and Trips or Garmin's mapping software.
  7. We just found the AEX cache in Louisiana that was burned. The only way we knew it was the cache was by the location and the chared and blackened WinkieBlinkie travel bug tag. That and the burned coffee can container was all that was left.

  9. We have an eTrek, an eTrek Legend and a Mag 315. If I use the Mag315 and my wife uses the eTrek she beats me to the cache every time but if we both use eTreks it's just about even. That's been our experience in 65 cache hunts.
  10. My wife and I have three units. An eTrex, an eTrex Legend and a Mag 315. If I use the Mag 315 my wife will beat me to the cache every time. I like the feel and controls of the 315 but the heat of the hunt it does not seem to work as well as the Garmins.

  12. The first time my wife and I logged on this site we were amazed all of this was free. I know from personal experience what it take to keep even a small web site going. We gladly paid our 30 bucks. The site is still free for those who can,t aford to or choose not to join and that's a good thing. I am much more concerned about restrictions against geocaching on public land. Live long and Cache Jim & Deb
  13. Sounds like a typical urban cache to me. Not everyone lives in an area where the caches can be hidden on a remote mountain side or deep in some remote forest. Personally I prefer the harder more isolated finds. The more hiking the better. So we plan for an occasional weekend long cache and settle for the quick urban caches the rest of the time. Quite frankly we have discovered many local parks we would never have found other wise if not for these local cache hunts.
