  1. While the cost per month varies based on your rate plan, it's pretty in line with other smart phone offerings that include an unlimited data plan. I am currently in the process of programming a full featured geocaching application for the iPhone, and it does have features that'll enable use when out of range of cell service. We've got a site up with a list of features and some screenshots, so take a look and let me know what you think. www.geodeapp.com Any idea as to when this might be available ?
  2. We found this cache while in the area for the GBES Rally last year and really enjoyed it, it was in fact one of the more memorable ones of the trip, really don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.
  3. Showed up today finally, thanks, very nice !
  4. Same here, have they been mailed ?, just wondering when to expect them, Belmont 94002
  5. "It was a lame hide, the coords were off, I had to walk further than it said, I didn't like the container, it was hidden to high, it was hidden to low, they didn't say what type of shoes to wear, I had to park to far away and that should have been noted on the cache page, there were bugs, I didn't like the location", come on folks, its a game, get over it, oh and btw, what is a "Veteran Cacher" ?, was there some kind of geocache war I don't know about ?
  6. Lame is in the eye of the beholder, what you find lame might be fun for others, as for coords, it depends on the area, sometimes if they get you within a 100' your doing pretty well, depending on the area and the cover the next cacher might not even be able to get a signal , some of the lamest caches I have found were hidden by folks with lotso finds
  7. " It must have been nighfall in the years past when our nation was filled with a lot more gender and race discrimination. Perhaps some day it'll be noon." Hmmm, not sure what country you live in, but I wanna move there !!
  8. No matter what you call it, profiling or discrimination, it is only acceptable until one day you wake up and it applies to you. As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression. In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all must be most aware of change in the air - however slight - lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness. - William O. Douglas, judge (1898-1980) This country is in the twilight
  9. To be honest it doesn't matter much to me, childrens parks are largely boring, and children in general are largely annoying, let them ban adults without children if they wish, but they better not be using my tax dollars to build those parks, if I wanted to spend money on children I'd have my own
  10. Here's a thought, if something about the park makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, go home, pretty simple, and if you are worried about your kids watch them instead of reading a book while they run wild, banning everyday tax paying citizens is ludicrous, how about banning the people with kids so the rest of us can enjoy a peaceful day, sounds just as fair to me.
  11. I go alone quite often, for city caching its no biggie, but if you are going into the hills its a different story, as others have mentioned its always a good idea to let someone know where you are going and what time you think you will return (althought this is not always possible if its a new area), also do a little research so you know what you might run into and plan accordingly, lots of folks think carrying a cell phone is enough, its not, there are many places that your cell phone will be about as much use as a tin can with a string, always take the bare necessities, pocket knife, matches, a whistle, basic 1st aid kit, and a snake bite kit if the area dictates it.
  12. Leaving McToys and such in caches is also known as TICO (Trash in Cache Out)
  13. Maybe make it so you can't get an icon for grabbing something from an event cache (if thats even possible), and it can't increase your numbers, that might limit the interest pretty quickly, I have come across a number of bugs recently asking specifically not to be taken to an event.
  14. Same here, maybe time to kick the Microsoft Server Apps to the curb where they belong ?, this is starting to become just a bit to regular
  15. Agreed, if you were to find every cache where is the challenge ?, also, lets not forget alot of this hobby is luck, and some (even newbies) have a knack for noticing things that look even the slightest bit out of place, they also seem to be willing to spend more time looking as they haven't yet been drawn into the numbers game. Some of my best experiences so far in this game have ended in dnf's.
  16. I agree with the rest, sharing numbers is lame, as is getting icons for grabbing bugs, jeeps, etc. at events, it only counts if you have to find / work for it imho
  17. Paid for 5 via paypal this morning, thanks Frank !
  18. Thats a great idea, to be honest, I think people these days would be alot more freaked out about cachers skulking about in parking lots and city parks looking for micros than about finding a multitool in a cache 3 miles from the nearest road.
  19. I think it depends on where you live and the cache in question. Where I grew up kids got pocket knives as early as age 5 and still do, if you live near a big city I am sure its a different story, same goes for things like bb-guns, slingshots, and all those other terrible weapons that those who grew up in the city tend to fear. If the cache is at the end of a good long hike in rough country I fail to see the problem, its not going to get muggled, and even if it does the person finding it would probably just take the knife / multitool because they know its useful, actually, if a small child finds the cache in such an area he is probably already carrying a pocket knife, either that or you have a much bigger problem than the pocket knife. As for land managers, I've yet to meet one in 42 years that would consider a pocket knife a weapon, of course, I have not met any land managers who manage city parks so it very well may be the case in some areas. Now, if we could only enforce some kind of McToy ban, that would be great !
  20. If its not your travel bug its none of your business, end of story.
  21. Excersise, stress relief, peace and quiet, all things I could get without caching, but it gives me a reason to get off my a** and go and find them.
