  1. Modest or not, congratulations on your milestone find. Thanks! You've made my day. . .particularly since I opened a slightly insulting email this morning from a Florida cacher who did not like my comments on a DNF I logged.
  2. Gosh, I've been gone two weeks and not a whole lot of action here! Actually I'm glad I only had to read through a little over a page of posts to get caught up. Spent two weeks in warmer state. The reluctant hubby even got into finding some caches. Occasionally, REALLY into it, OBSESSED even! But thanks to him, we found at least one I would have given up on. Thanks to all geocachers from all states, but I have to say that Indiana Geocachers Rule! Still working on logging every find and bug drop/pickup, but we reached a modest milestone of 100 finds.
  3. Nothing particularly clever about one of my hides, but I covered the container in good 'ol camo tape. It blends in so well I literally lost it once myself (even archived it until someone found it!) and nearly couldn't find it again just last week. Never underestimate camo tape!
  4. I always sign the log book for a find but sometimes get lazy on a return trip to drop/retrieve a TB. I always log online though. And I always sign the logbook when I find a duckm cache! Oh wait, those sneaky caches frequently elude me!
  5. Gosh, everyone else's jobs sounds more interesting than mine! Personal assistant to a investment advisor. Funny, I help him help his clients make money. He gets rewarded by his company who sends on him big trips, like to Italy for the Olympics! Hellloooo, who's back at home minding your office?? The other half is a bridge builder. Occasionally road building, but he likes bridges best. Zoe-dog is chaser of the cat, eater of the "cookies," and keeper of the couch when she's not being a cache mutt.
  6. Actually I didn't even think about the world-wide application.
  7. Sounds like a good idea for the travelers among us. GeoTruckers has this feature, but is not exactly as hopping as Geocaching.Com or the forums here. Geotruckers Forum: Rest Area Caches Something on geocaching.com might get a better response. JohnTee Actually I've been looking and posting over there as well. I've posted (as MXtraveltrailer) lists of rest area caches I know of or have discovered.
  8. Since searching along a route seems to be a feature that is difficult to implement, a partial solution would be to be able to search for rest area caches along interstates. Ok, it's a solution for me at least, but probably others too. The cacher who places the cache would be able to note that this is a rest area cache, preferably along which highway/interstate and in what state. The cacher who wants to find these type of caches, would be able to search for under Rest Area Caches and set the search parameters to what state and/or which highway. This would be such a useful tool for me and is something (or some form of) I'd love to see implemented. Any thoughts?
  9. I understand that if I'm a premium member, I can create something called a Pocket Query. Does that create a list that I can then bookmark? And I can also download it to my GPS if I choose (but additional software is needed?). I need to find rest stop caches along interstate routes so I think creating a Pocket Query is the best way (?) but maybe I then need to filter the results? If someone could explain how the process works and also the best way to do what I need, I'd really appreciate it.
  10. Well I am here Haven't gotten down to Sheler II yet. Did hit one cache near the hotel. Sweltering here, y'know it's really not the heat but the humidity that gets me. Brought up a load of TB's which I will be scattering around (sorry no WJTB's or Coins). Trying to keep my son entertained. He really only wants to swim at the hotel. Glad the weather is to your lliking. It was 3.4 degrees F here in Bippus when we got up this morning. Our kitchen pipes are frozen... The hubby and I didn't go GEOCACHING in INDIANA this weekend, but we did go geocaching in Illinois while driving to St. Louis. I think geocaching in Illinois is real similiar to GEOCACHING in INDIANA; they have piles of sticks with ammo boxes too! And it was cold there too! Zoe-dog got to stay overnight at the doggy spa with VIP (Very Important Pet) treatment, but she wasn't happy about it.
  11. Nice photos everyone! Here's one I took for a travel bug called Big Boy that passed through my hands last August. And here's the log that went with it: Big Boy was so surprised and excited today to meet his long-lost Great-Uncle Ike! See, Ike left the restaurant business years ago. He just walked off the job one day, mumbling something about hating plaid. He just wasn't sucessful in that line of work. . .and it didn't help that people stared at him a lot because of his extremely pale skin and unfortunate facial birthmark. No one had heard from Ike since that day, but he evidently started up a sign business right here in Mishawaka, Indiana. The family resemblance is unmistakable. Big Boy was very pleased to meet Ike.
  12. bumping this one to the top. . .I wanna see more cool TB photos!
  13. Yeah, I realize it's not a unique container, just unique to me since I've not used one before! Actually, I've never found a cache in one of these either, come to think about it, but I only have about 80 finds. It's listed as a micro, but if the cacher knew specifically what container he/she was looking for, I think it would make this find easier. Just my opinion.
  14. LOL, that's too funny! I might just have to do that. . . . I do plan on finding some of his caches someday and logging "nice hide. Hope it doesn't get muggled."
  15. Actually the Franklin one was ok. The hiding spot was at least 10ft away from where he took the photo. And, I did want a photo of Franklin so I was more than fine with that one! It was the photo for No Evidence that I didn't like. He's just playing the game as he likes so I hate to criticize him. My husband suggested that I ask that no photos be posted for 60 days or something like that. Maybe that's a thought. Ironically, there's a cache that both he and I have DNFd on several times. I'm up to three or four now, he was about the same before he finally found it. He hasn't posted a photo for that one!
  16. A cacher in my general area drives me a little crazy, although I'm sure he has no intentions of doing that. Seems like whenever he finds one of my hides, he always mentions something like "hope it doesn't get muggled," implying that my hide wasn't that great. And to be honest, a couple aren't so great but I know the place where it's hidden receives so few visitors, that the muggle-factor is pretty low. He also always takes pictures. That's his thing, and I know that. But he takes photos of the cache container, and I don't like it when it's my container. I'm one of those people who won't give a container description. That my thing. But he's never been one of the first finders, so it didn't really bug me a lot (well, maybe just a little, but not a lot). I just placed four new caches, and lo' and behold, he's FTF on three and DNFs on the fourth. And yep, right there for all the second and third and all the other finders to see are photos of my containers. One in particular bugs me because it's not my usual type of hide and not my usual container and I thought it was kind of sneaky. But now everyone knows what they're looking for. I take a bit of devious pleasure on his DNF because he didn't trust his GPS and probably let the hint mislead him. Said he wondered if the coordinates were off. The FTF said the coords were right on. Anyway, just a bit of a venting. Others probaby have similar stories???
  17. Thanks Hide & Seekers... .. Will be heading out tomorrow after the wife gets off work so hopefully they will be live by then. Lead Dog and I are ready for a few more around here.!!! We've had a flurry of new caches in South Bend/Mishawaka area lately, but overall, I think all you folks south of us of more active -- hiding and seeking! PS: Three of four new caches approved! I needed some snow to cover my tracks on the fourth one, which we got last night. I'm guessing that one will go active soon now.
  18. I did not go geocaching seeking in Indiana today, but I did go geocaching hiding! Four new caches hidden! (501_Gang take note!)
  19. Although there's no set guidelines about having to have a certain number of finds before placing a cache of your own, I really do suggest you wait until you have a number of finds before hiding one. I realized after finding different size caches hidden in all sorts of manners that my early hides were pretty lame. I simply didn't know yet what made for a great hide. I plan on re-doing a couple this spring to make them better.
  20. That's exactly what I do. Also, if I drop any bugs I ask them to please wait until I get a chance to officially drop it before anyone else grabs it. When I'm caching out-of-town I also leave my hometown/state so people will understand better why I can't log it right away.
  21. My name is plural because I intended it to be both my husband and I. In reality it's usually just me. . .but often with my dog. When I log my finds online I note if my dog Zoe, referred to as "Zoe-dog", is with me or if my husband, "the reluctant hubby", are with me. I'm the online person and I'm just not into logging it three times, me, the dog, and the hubby (yes, some dogs have their own accounts!).
  22. 501_Gang will be celebrating their one year caching anniversary on 2/5 and have a whopping 580 finds in one year to show for it! Good job, you guys (I don't care what anyone else says! ). One of these days I'll get over to Michigan City and start finding some of your hides. Oh wait, that one ISQ is fairly close. . .maybe that should be my first ISQ find!
  23. Lock'n'Locks in all their glorious sizes Actually they do round ones too, not just the square/rectangular. Not sure why, but the round ones cost less. I camo-tape mine and use black magic marker on the tabs that can't be taped. I think I drive the other cachers crazy sometimes when they can't find it.
  24. Yesterday: took TBs Today: will leave TBs. Last time I traded (couple of weekeds ago). Hmmm, took nothing and left a geobutton I think. I've found a few cool items in caches, but none lately.
