This has been discussed ad infinitum on the forums but I figured it would be best if I just came out and asked for my specific case. I have been looking thru the boards and reading about the different gps handhelds out there and ones that would be good for a new person getting started. I dont want to spend too much on this but want something that will do the job for getting me close to the caches.
The ones I am looking at are the 60csx, 62, magellan explorist gc, and maybe one of the touchscreen models.
What I am looking for:
reception under tree cover. should have as good as you can get while under tree cover.
paperless caching would be nice but is NOT required. I have both the iphone and a palm m125 I can use if needed to fill this need.
easy to use. should be relatively easy to operate. (granted this will come with time spent with unit).
compass to show direction to cache.
That is all I can think of as far as features I am looking for. If I have missed something that might be good for a new person please let me know.
I have had a chance to try out the Garmin eTrex H ($80) unit from a friend until it broke and he upgraded to the blue legend model. It did the job but I did not like the buttons on the sides. I got to see the 60csx while at the local geocache event and it looked really easy to use though I did not get a chance to. The touch screen models could be useful as I have an iphone I will be used to the feature of it as well as it may be easier to use versus the buttons.
Another friend has a Magellan explorist gc (i think this one, but could be another model) and the details for it look very good for what it offers. Does anyone have experience with this device?
Sorry for the lengthy post.
