  1. This was yesterday so have not been back to sign the log. Figured it out at home. Will go by there next time in the area. I was just looking for others opinion for this type of cache, nothing more, nothing less. We all have our favorite types and mine used to be hiking which I can't do anymore so I usually pick ones I can more easily get to and I like solving puzzles.
  2. kunarion - I do know where the cache is and I'm NOT looking for a hint or plan on ruining anything about it. I just wanted to know what others think of this type of puzzle which is actually a field puzzle. In my opinion originally caches were to take you to someplace nice to go and see the area. I just figure it's a bit much asking you to drive around and walk around not really knowing what your looking for. If you read my original request it stated I wanted to know what people thought of this type of "Puzzle." Also I have written to the CO on other puzzles and their choice is to be vague also - so be it. Sorry I asked what is obviously misunderstood by several. Out of 17,000 caches I have secured 1966 puzzles. I do like puzzles but I will not ask for anyone's opinion again.
  3. GCAFEPP Our house in the middle of our street. The cache says in hint "No coords in the puzzle". If only there was a nice place to sit and think, etc In additionals waypoints it gives 3 sets of coords. In the story it says he forgot where he put it etc. You have to drive to all 3 parks and just wander around? According to the story there was a cat and the cat liked butterflies so I suppose that's clues. We went to 2 of them and nothing, just wandered around looking stupid. The 3rd set of coords does NOT take you to a park. So you have to check the map and see where the local parks are. Then again you are to go there, park and just wander around till you find a cat or a butterfly? I am just asking if you think this a legitimate puzzle to ask people to drive so many places and vague clues? It's more like a multi but not that either. I'm just wanting peoples opinion on this. We wasted out time and gas driving to false coords that were suppose to be at a park.
  4. I had a DNF on a cache last week that had 7 DNF's. I did not report it. I usually just read what the dnf logs are. I had a very difficult cache to find - no go. A friend gave me a hint so will try again another time. The log usually indicate if there really is a problem.
  5. Last week we went over the mountain to Verde Valley to cache. Not a good day for us. 6 finds, 6 dnf. GC97183 has 7 DNF's. I wrote a pleasant log. The CO not on site since Jul 29. Maybe I should go back and log a NM. I got help on 2 DNF's so will go back another day. One of the owners responded immediately and said was there and in good shape. I don't "jump the gun" on all that I don't find, I just had a feeling with this one. We have cached in our community for a long time so have most of them so have to go a distance to have a caching day. We were lucky enough to take an RV trip a few weeks ago. We got 2 caches from 2000, then over to Kansas to get the infamous "Mingo" and then to Colorado for Tarryall. We now have completed our Jasmer.
  6. I did not know that reviewers used a new name when they become a volunteer. I did not know that NM report also alerts the reviewer, I thought it was only if NA was posted. I will use NM from now on. If you wish to see the cache I have been talking about. It was GC962JW. I very seldom use NA unless, through my experience, believe there is no hope that it will be fixed. I am adamant about people leaving caches when they move on. I personally take care of an oldie where the CO has been out of the picture for at least 10 years. I would love to adopt it but that can't be done. We've been caching regular since Aug 2010. Sorry I even voiced my opinion about newbie cachers hiding caches way too soon but it is a sore subject with me. Seems to be a trend these days. When the State of Arizona closed state lands from geocaching a while back I asked a gal in Tucson if she was going to need help picking up here geocache series and she said no as she had no intention to do so. I had six and picked them up. Later the State changed their mind and allowed caches to resume, thanks to a hard working crew who worked with the State folks on this matter. I have seen way too many trashed cache containers in my time and usually replace them.
  7. When I said "I'd say they were not around anymore and had no intention to repair as they received a DNF and did nothing" I was referring to the CO of the cache. Yes as a cache owner we are responsible to check out our caches if there seems to be a problem. Even if just writing to the cacher who had the DNF so see if the CO could help. I believe this is a friendly sport and we should treat our fellow cachers with respect. Your second response was "How many geocaches are on his player account? Yes I did look at the reviewers account to see what he has done. If he has a different user name as a cacher I don't know that. I was going by what is on his account when you click on his name. He has only been a reviewer in our area for several months. He joined 2/14/2021, has 7 finds 5 of which are events and 1 hide that was a test and archived. I thought he was out of line writing to me saying I was jumping the gun on this newbie cache. For months there were complaints of the cache being in bad shape with water in container, slimy and mold. This cache really needed help. I went looking for it after we had a deluge of rain and as the previous cacher said it appears to be gone. Hint said in the rocks and the rocks were right beside the road where you could see a great deal of water went by. This proved to me the CO had no intention of fixing the problem so I asked for an "archive". That is the only way a reviewer knows there is a problem. Hope this clarifies your question.
  8. I agree 100% with everything you wrote. This has bothered me after so many long distance driving or a difficult hike to not find the cache because the owner isn't around to do maintenance especially if several cachers report a problem. The reviewer does not know this caches needs help unless a "needs archive" notice is posted. I did recently post a "needs archive" on a newbie cache that mostly likely was washed away in our recent floods. there was a DNF just before me that is a very seasoned cacher. The reviewer wrote to me said I was out of line and to give this person a break. The cacher had 3 caches found and 1 hidden in a 6 month period. I'd say they were not around anymore and had no intention to repair as they received a DNF and did nothing. The reviewer had only found a few caches so how can he really judge this newbie cachers needed more time. How much time does he need? Before the DNF 2 cachers had found it and logged there was mold and slime in the container. I was very unhappy with the reviewer an his attitude. So I edited my log and took out the "needs archive". Turns out the reviewer did have to follow the rules and he archived it. There still wasn't any response from the cache hider. This reviewer needs a bit more experience IMHO. We have found abt 17,000 so I'd say we have reasonable experience to recognize an abandon cache. When the Sate of Arizona took away our use of state land I went out and picked up my 6 caches. I truly believe that headquarters needs to review their rules about who can hide a cache and when they qualify. So much cache litter could be avoided and cachers frustration with those who will not provide maintenance. Thank you for your article I do appreciate what you said as this is our most favorite hobby. Happy caching to all.
  9. Either from geocaching.com list "send to GPS" using Garmin Express OR making a pocket query and send it to the GPS through GSAK. My hubby called Garmin yesterday and they said there is a distance limit on how far you will be able to see your loaded caches. He said most likely 100 miles or so. Our older GPSMAP62 does not have that distance limit but this new GPSMAP 64ST does and my Oregon 600 also has this limit. If We load through GSAK then we can look through the computer properties and clicking on it will open the gsak program. We just like to be sure they downloaded to the GPS before driving a distance for the days event and not finding caches loaded when we get there. That's one of the reasons we take two gps.
  10. Thank you for your input. My Oregon600 is the same way. Am going to try setting search parameters on the GPSmap 64st and see how works. But I still do not know why the Geocaching icon on the page is not highlighted. Will call Garmin when they open after the holiday. Thanks again, carol
  11. Downloaded pocket query as I have done before. No caches found. Message said "try adjusting search parameters" On the page button the word geocache is there but the icon is not highlighted as if it did not recognize geocaching. On the profile I highlighted geocaching. It is a new device and I have already used it a few times with no problem. I checked the filters and it says "all types". I did a reset to factory, and downloaded again. Garmin express updated, recognized the device. Said download complete. Unplugged from computer, turned on gps and saw the loading bar went to the end and still no caches listed. I believe it has something to do with the icon not highlighted. I am at a loss as it worked before. Any help would be appreciated. Can't call Garmin today as they are closed for the holiday. thank you I downloaded a local cache and it showed up but the ones I loaded from the PQ were about 140 miles away. How can I get it them to show up while I'm still home to be sure they loaded? Thanks
  12. My android phone does not have the hints button for the Mystery game. It shows up on my hubbys android phone. What's up?
  13. I also want to be able to delete messages from my phone app. I have an ugly message from a creep and want it off my phone. Time to FIX IT !!!!!
  14. On the main screen that comes up when you start the app you tap on a cache you want to go to. The green dot gets larger. If you don't want to read about the cache just press the green start arrow bottom right corner. Then you have you full size map and directions. From there you can tap on the compass upper right green area. From the first screen and you tap on the cache yes you will get the details. Then after reading tap the back arrow at the top left of the screen and you see the whole page map. From there you can also tap on the compass upper right green area. Does this clarify for you? Try it and let me know. Carol
  15. Thanks for the info Last night I deleted the app and rebooted the phone then did a fresh download of the app and it worked. I will keep in mind what you said if it acts up again. Thank You Carol
  16. While traveling to the Colorado River from Arizona. We were not able to pull up any caches in the new app when searching our location. Turned on the Old geocaching.com program and zap there were lots of caches in our location. I have 4 bars on my phone but it will not show me caches where I am parked. What's going on?? PLEASE DO NOT ARCHIVE THE OLD APPLICATION THAT I PAID FOR IN THE BEGINNING. It works just fine. The new app WILL NOT show me any caches on the map. It is worthless to me !!!!! Can you explain why I do not get any caches to show up and yes I did check the filters. HELP
  17. I guess I had a "duh" moment. I deleted all the caches in the GPX and GZZ files. Reloaded the first 10 in the series and the same ones were missing. I looked again at the screen again and then SAW the filter you told me about in the upper right corner and sure enough the D/T were not at "show all" on the device. I slid all the bars to include all D/T, saved it and guess what - they were all there. It goes to show you I really do not know enough about my device. If it wasn't for the advice from you and the other person I would not have known what happened. I think I better get my manual out and study more about what this device really can do. Thank you so much for all your help and advice.
  18. I'm using windows 7 and this time I just entered them individually. I have had this problem before when a few did not show up. I did use a pocket query once before with no problem. I will try what you suggested. The screen does show the caches we did find yesterday as open boxes. I will see if they show up as found when I re-enter them and if the missing ones show up. Thank you for the help.
  19. Thank you for your time and suggestions. I will try your last suggestion to see what happens. Maybe I should make pocket queries for this device as I have had missing caches before. If I'm close to the caches that I'm loading I will check to see if they are all there on the screen list. If not then I can try to reload them. I use my old faithful Etrex 20 more than the Oregon because it's so easy and never a problem.
  20. I checked my filter pages on the geocaching "app" and everything is set to see all. I also looked in the Oregon manual for filters. Went to setup>geocaching>Filter setup> create filter. It was set to "show all" as the filter to use. I did look at edit to see what was there and everything was set to see ALL types, etc. I went back to the geocache list on the Oregon and it still only shows 10 of the 19 that are in the GPX file. Thank you for your help. Still do not know why I am only getting a partial list.
  21. The furthest was about 48 miles. When I checked the GPX file on my computer before we left there were 19 caches. When we arrived at the first one the GPS still only listed 10. When we found the first cache I logged it found and then clicked on "Next closest". It went to #2, when done with that one, logged, then asked for next closest and it skipped to #4 which was on the list. Number 3 did not show up. I am aware about the 100 mile distance when I loaded a pocket query for California while I was home in Arizona and they didn't show up until we got closer. Thank you for that reminder.
  22. I loaded each cache individually from geocaching.com as they were a series down one road. All were traditional. Is there a place in the Oregon that has filters? If so, where do I find it?
