  1. fantastic. I remember it was called "field notes" back then. The drafts button is what I was looking for. Thanks so much
  2. I found a cache. On my GPS I logged it. I want to transfer the record of the found log back to the geocaching website. I vaguely remember having a tool that would scan the files on my GPS and extract the logs. :/
  3. Hi. I have not used my GPS in years...I have forgotten how to transfer a cache from the GPS to the website. I can't seem to find the transfer button...or was that only for premium members? unit: Oregon 450 thanks
  4. I dropped off one of my own tags and waited to long to log the visit. Now I am not near my tag. Is there anyway for the owner of a tag to log a visit without the private tracking number?
  5. Hi. I have taken a number of waypoints with my GPS. When I connect my GPS to my laptop, I clearly see the waypoints I have been to. However, from within the GPS, I can't seem to access the waypoints. I have clicked on "waypoint manager" to no avail - the search turns up no results. I did a small test and any new waypoints I create now can be pulled up by the GPS. So, somehow, something is preventing the GPS to show me the waypoints I took 10 days ago. thanks for any help.
  6. I have a PQ that is returning zero results. I have gone through the filters and can't figure out what is holding me back. Could someone lookup my PQ and assist?? Name: Buffet des Continents Description: basic postal code PQ centered around j8t 3r6. I have tried multiple postal codes. From the homepage, this postal code returns a lot of caches. thank you,
  7. Thanks for your responses. 1. EasyGPS is used because it has an easy to locate merge feature 2. I use 8 PQs because I find it more efficient to have a series of zones that cover the areas I visit. This is more efficient because the system does not appear to let you set boundaries but imposes a sort of linear radius. Since the GPS is limited to 2000 caches, I need to manage the constraint in a way that is seamless. Example: PQ1: My home with 200 caches PQ2: Eastern edge of my zone with 100 caches PQ3: Southern edge of my zone with 100 caches PQ4: Northern edge of my zone with 100 caches. 3. re: original problem. Still trying to trouble shoot. I deleted everything on the GPS and loaded fresh which seems to work. thanks
  8. I have created 8 different PQs and the idea was to merge them into a single GPS file with EasyGPS. In total, the PQ is set to generate 850 caches. However, when I get the files from the server and merge them, I am getting in excess of 1200 caches. I have verified each PQ to confirm that the search parameters add up to 850 caches. Is this a normal thing that the system returns more caches than needed? tks
  9. a cute anecdote...I was caching with three young children all looking around for the cache. The police were curious but low key. It was over in 30 seconds.
  10. Oregon 450, tks for info and what models are able to transmit the information?
  11. When I transfer information from the GPS to the Computer, the computer does not show my "found" caches. On the GPS, I clearly have caches that are found. I am assuming that this is a software limitation (EasyGPS). Q1: How am I supposed to indicate on the website that we found a cache? manually entry only? Q2: What software will keep track of the caches that have been found and the comments I make in the GPS log? tks
  12. I hear you...and yet...well, leaving aside the heartache issue, this micro-universe is merely a reflection of our society. I would just make this a learning moment and go and buy more trackables. I just bought the three basic bugs since I don't want something pretty enough to keep. My current dilemma is settling arguments between my three very young children...the youngest (4) is determined to hold on to the GPS and telling the other two where to go. Invariably, one of the three will break into tears when I explain that you don't always have to take something...
  13. The premium membership is OK. When I made the switch into Premium, I really was expecting a more refined product given the advances in technology. If you leave out the challenges of the product, you are left with an opportunity to save time. If time is a commodity, and geocaching is something you will enjoy even moderately, then you may benefit from this product.
  14. I read Markwell's page of what pocketqueries are. Is there a less convoluted process to getting PQs? I am not getting the email with my PQs. But in the PQ page, I see "Active PQ" as being the set I generated. But from the PQ page I am not allowed to download the query. I am also not allowed to put my "active" PQ in the queue. thank you (Also, am I allowed to have 2 PQs at the same time? I want to be able to view sets of caches in two geographic zones (different cities)). tks
  15. Just to add to my earlier post because I am not sure I was clear enough, I really don't want to buy both maps. I want to max the utility of the unit, although I suspect that the Oregon 450 was probably a little bit of overkill. I am really hoping my family will enjoy this activity. Getting young kids to hike for 2 km can, sometimes, be a draining experience. thank you so much. as an aside: I found the Oregon 450 to have a steeper learning curve than I would have thought for such an expensive unit. And boy do the batteries drain fast (duracell NiMh, 2000 rating). I'm a heavy blackberry user and not used to having to charge batteries with this frequency.
  16. I just bought an Oregon 450 ($320 which I hope was a good deal). I have narrowed the maps to two options: 1. North America City Map 2. TOPO Canada. I don't really need the 6 million POIs for the City Map...so it the TOPO good enough for occasional city use? On the flip side, I am a light hiker (very young children) so I don't think I need the TOPO details that are provided either. So would the city map be good enough for geocaching? The challenge with product descriptions is you don't know where one product ends and the other begins. They seem to overlap quite a bit. thank you,
