  1. Whoa ... chill. I'm just trying to get some help from fellow geocachers. My original intent was to see if GSAK had moved into the Android market. It was bandied around several years ago ... but have never seen an update. (Sorry if I have offended anyone with my ignorance)
  2. Nope. See answer on other thread ... GSAK. Clyde & co.
  3. Nope. I meant GSAK. I've been away a few years but was an original subscriber to GSAK.
  4. Is GSAK available for android? I went to the website, but it seems rather empty. Admittedly, I've been away from things for awhile and am trying to get caught up.
  5. I am getting back into Caching after a brief hiatus and amnteying to catch up on things. Is GSAK so longer a thing? The website seems rather empty and I see no updates for the past few years. I am more android phone user then GPS these days.
  6. I am moving to Abu Dhabi for 2 years in August and am hoping to meet up with some fellow cachers. I am used to caching with my husband but he has to stay behind in Canada to finish up another degree, so I am hoping for an event or two to get to know folks
  7. I am so embarrassed. I looked everywhere for that link on GC.com and could not find it. *hangs head* Ok ... take away one of my Geek stars.
  8. I feel like such a newb, but then, I have been in geo-semi-retirement for the past few years At one time, we could see Geocaches on Google Earth. Since then I have reloaded operating systems, reloaded software etc etc This was done by downloading an "add-on" from GC.com ... is this feature still available? Am I loosing my mind? Have I slipped into some parallel universe where geocaching did not take off? HELP!
  9. as our very good friend miner commented upon ... "much peanut butter was sacrificed" ... here on the mainland, peanut butter jars are a real favorite for use as a cache container. washed several hundred times in the dishwasher and suitably cammoed ... and you end up with an amazingly waterproof cache container. (that said ... i HAVE seen one that was bitten by a large toothed wild animal ... and it STILL survived) as mentioned earlier, however ... please do not tar and feather all cache hiders with the same brush. besides, the east coast rainy season IS not just wet ... is bloody well soaking wet!!
  10. finally ... finally ... we come to what i really really have been watching for. "offline database management" ... which is EXCACTLY the way i like to geocache. GPS is loaded ... grab the keys to the jeep and hit the road for where ever the wind takes us. and with the option of an offline data base and unlimited PQs ... we can simply do a quick update of whatever direction we have chosen ... and head out in that area. as for the cachers who mention caching in the UK ... wouldn't it be nice to do a PQ on an entire country or province ... WOW. now there's a GREAT idea!! IMAGINE THE SCENARIO: mr canuck ... we need you to hop on the plane for manitoba. no problem mr boss, let me send this PQ for the entire province of manitoba so when i land i can simply dump it into my GPS and go geocaching along the way to that important meeting. WOW! geocaching is growing ... and Groundspeak needs to grab the REAL bull by the horns and provide us with inovative ideas ... what WE need!!! like access to manageable offline database sources!!! *steps off his box* thank you
  11. seems to me this IS part of our community ... and if you can't ask your neighbours for help ... who can you ask? bad form to ask for help?no bad form to ask for answers? yes
  12. we also do not understand why the american policy is different from the canadian policy on benchmarking. seems to me it should be a level playing field. seems to me geocaching should be geocaching wherever you are. the same plicies and rules should be in place wherever you geocache ...
  13. in my swag bag right now: 2 teddy bears, 1 emergency rain poncho, silly putty (yaaay), boot laces, 2 fox 40 whistles, a large zippy full of scout crests, assorted key rings, and 2 mini tape measures. all purchased at our local Bargain Shop or Canadian Tire. most items cost between 1-2 $$ or were free from loacal merchants (as promo giveaways ... not 5 finger discount). our caches are usually filled with hiking oriented stuff ... budget is usually 20$. tho we only have 2 out ... we try to keep them on theme. that said: we don't look at caching as an alternative to shopping. but if we see something unique, we are prepared. as for mctoys: new in package ... sure. broken or misused anything: sux but lets please keep caching on a level playing field. especially economically!!! (BTW: we have a little mcd's teddy bear we carry to every cache ... he was picked up at our very first cache ... he was still ih his package)
