  1. well... if you can get sub 6" groups from 25 yards i would say you are accurate enough. i have a hard time doing that without really concentrating with a rest. it blows my mind that some people can do better offhand. i guess im just a lousy shot. maybe if i wouldn't have drank that six pack before hand. oh, wait... i thought this was the Glocktalk forum!
  2. i did a search for weather having any effects on GPS and i got logs about discounts at walmart so sorry if this has already been covered. i'm curious if what the etrex manual said about weather not effecting reception to be true. i want to climb mt. rainier sometime soon and would like to have the option of using the etrex if the weather should get bad enough to not see landmarks. would it work in a snowstorm? i would guess that a white out would be the same as being under tree cover... i don't know though. does anyone have any experience with thier GPS in severe weather? thanks.
  3. around my area in washington we have many mountains, with or without trails to the top. at the top of most of them that i have climbed, with the exception being one, there is a logbook for all who summit to sign. all of the logbooks except for the one at the top of mt. adams that i have come across are made from PVC. usually 2" schedule 40 because it is durable, seals up well, and it big enough to roll up a good size log book inside. they look inherently like a pipe bomb, about a foot long with a cap on each end, but i doubt anyone who has came across them has had any fear about it. im not sure what my point is, probably just that my dog bob the wiener dog has more common sense than some of these people who assume anything unordinary is a bomb. then again this isn't seattle, most of us are repubicans, and it's not taboo to spank your kids on this side of the mountains. in seattle it probably would be dumb, although fun to watch, to put a geocache in a pipe-bomb-esque container. i have an appointment with my gps now. i'll rant more later.
  4. so... since my original post i haven't hid any caches. ive found 12. just food for thought... is it hypocritacal... i dont think it is but i wouldn't say that i am not a hypocrite either. i wasn't trying to make enemies starting this post, although i may have stepped on a few toes. some of you remind me of kindergarten teachers though. life has to be fair and only say what is sugarcoated and nice, not what is honest. (although i don't personally encourage name calling... see sentence above about my hypocracy) anywho... all apologies to anyone i may have offended. if you would have just posted an answer to what my question was instead of flaming my idea... oh, nevermind. sorry if i offended any PC liberals out there. in my neck of the woods it's considered a bad thing, but i know that not all people from seattle or all liberals are inherently bad... just misled. hehe. thanks all for putting up with my crap.
  5. it's a workable idea. theme caches can be lame though when you go to find a series of caches and one of them ends up being a theme cache and you didn't notice that when you were typing coords. into your etrex and then you have nothing associated to leave in the cache so you just leave whatever. but it's cool.
  6. yeah, i checked again and they are cleared up now. i'm glad someone knows whats going on because i sure dont!
  7. this may have already been covered, i dont know, but i have a question on my posting of pictures. i recently purchased a digital camera and have been posting pics with my finds now. when i go to view some of them, they are very blocky with bad graphics. but when i click the "view original picture" option under the picture, it is clear again. why would the page make it so distorted? all of them are under the 100kb limit. is there anything i can do to remedy this?
  8. Some of you sound like whiny liberals. You are taking everything as a personal insult and getting defensive over a pretty dang innocent post. lighten up. thanks for the compliment ish-n-isha. You dont sound like a whiny liberal.
  9. maybe i am kind of proud of my hides. they are all places that i thought to be cache worthy. they aren't caches just for the sake of racking up numbers. someone has to hide caches for you to find them. its as simple as that. so why not let that person be you. if you aren't contributing to your local geo-community, then you are only taking. take it of what it's worth.
  10. What are the Highest altitude caches around? I just logged a cache at the top of Mt. Adams here in Washington. It is the highest cache in the Immediate few states nearest at 12,270ft. Where would you find higher caches? Colorado maybe?
  11. So if there were 5 other cachers in my area at the same ratio, hiding/finding at the same rate, we would be a self sustaining geo-entity.
  12. Just an observation, but some folks seem to be great at finding but don't want to do any hiding. What is your Found/Hid Ratio? Right now mine is at 60found/12Hid. Thats 5 found for every cache i Plant. How about you?
  13. i placed a cache near a waterfall in an ammo box. i had a reply that the stuff was gone so i went to check it out. when i got there all that was left was a ziplock with the logbook and pen and a couple small trinkets. one of the last logs in the book was: "TOOK YOUR STUFF, THANKS!" that kind of chapped my hide.
  14. are there any external antenna available for a plain old etrex? if so where can i find one? thanks.
