  1. Read the size listed on the cache page, and the description. If it's smaller than a "small", then there is most likely only a log book. Beware that some CO's like to erroneously list their caches as "small" when they really are "micros". We've found caches where "helpful" people have replaced missing containers with ziplock bags, rendering the size description useless. Hauling around swag to find nothing but a ziplock or a bison tube when the original cache was a lock & lock can be very aggravating. It helps to read logs by previous finders. Some caches that are capable of holding more than just a log book have been cleaned out of any swag. Some times you just need to emphasize elements other than finding "prizes". Being together, walking, scenery, the fun of finding the cache...maybe those should be more important than a bunch of dollar-store toys. B.
  2. Looks like your reviewer archived a few for you. Which ones did you archive? https://coord.info/GC3M8D3 archived by CO https://coord.info/GC3M8DK archived by CO after prompting by Reviewer for action on the "disabled" status for a year https://coord.info/GC3MNFA disabled by CO, prompt from Reviewer, no response from CO, archived by Reviewer Communication is key again. B.
  3. Clear communication is key to everything. Are you talking about caches that you placed? Are you talking about your caches that have been archived? If you have archived caches of yours, you need to get out there and remove the container. Once you have archived YOUR cache, then that location is open to other people placing new caches there. Is that a problem for you for some reason? If you are talking about caches owned by other people, I don't understand what your point is. Are you talking about logging "NA" on caches? Perhaps if you gave GC codes of what you are talking about, we could see for ourselves what the circumstances are. B.
  4. In this Help Center article: Help Center → Apps → Geocaching® app → Create, edit, and delete Lists 1.6. Create, edit, and delete Lists http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=762 The link to "Offline Lists" takes one to this page: 1.7. Offline maps http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=817 I can't find any instructions about "offline lists" in the Help Center. B.
  5. Be prepared ahead of time. Premium member benefits http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=132 Put the caches you wish to seek in a bookmark list(s) 3.8. Lists http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=288 Run pocket queries of those lists. Not sure what is happening, but there used to be information about "offline lists" in the Help Center. The links to "iPhone" and "Android" seem to be dead right now. Hopefully someone with experience with the app will be along to be of more help. B.
  6. As a Basic Member, you're getting a different email than the one sent to Premium Members. See my posts above...PM's get a link to newly published caches, Basic Members get a link to nearby caches. Pretty astounding to me. I didn't think Groundspeak would so blatantly discriminate against Basic Members when it comes to newly published caches. B.
  7. Same thing again in this week's newsletter... PM account receives link to "recent caches near you" BM account receives link to "caches near you" Why can't Basic Members be advised about newly published caches? B.
  8. Did you miss a Reviewer's post back on page 1? Geocaching HQ is in the middle of a comprehensive update to the Help Center, to make it more... well... helpful. It's a great project! Obviously this article was updated. Sometimes wording changes produce unintended results. Several Reviewers, myself included, read this forum thread today and dashed off to ask HQ if we'd missed a Memo. That's why no Reviewer has posted to the thread until now, as we were equally surprised. After discussions with HQ today, I am pleased to confirm that no policy change was intended by this update. Reviewers and Lackeys are now working on a revised version of the article, which will be posted to the Help Center within a week or so. Most of the Help Center updates are being made with direct reviewer input on the proposed text. Somehow, this advice about major changes to a cache listing slipped into the Help Center. Sorry for the confusion! Finally, I'd like to thank barefootjeff for starting this thread. Your question will lead to clearer guidance in the near future. Help Center → Hide a cache → Ownership after publication 6.2. Edit a listing after publication http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=201 B.
  9. Did you log it as found online? How did you search for it? Coordinates, GC number, etc? Is there another cache nearby that you can find using the search? Do you remember the username, or the signature that was the last one on the logbook from November? More info, maybe the coordinates, will help. If it's the final for a multicache or puzzle, though, don't post the coordinates. Perhaps contacting your local reviewer would be an option. B.
  10. Sounds to me like you can view photos one at a time. Help Center → Apps → Geocaching® app 1.9. View cache owner and log photos http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=646 B.
  11. The only way it would work is if there are trackables in the cache's inventory. The trackable inventory is not something that is reliable. People don't log trackables correctly, so the inventory is often incorrect. It's not that people think it should be a surprise to find trackables, it's just that one shouldn't expect the inventory to be correct. Being told that there are trackables in a cache, and then finding that there aren't, would be a disappointment, no? B.
  12. Yes, it's still weekly. Check your profile that you've still got it ticked. Check your spam folder. And if necessary, contact Groundspeak and let them know you're not receiving it. B.
  13. Did you post your comments in the forum thread that GS is watching: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=343784 B.
  14. I remember completing a survey about the newsletter. And the newsletter ended up being something I am not happy to receive. Responses and comments should be posted in the current, active thread in the Website forum: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=343302 B.
  15. Was there a difference in the caches displayed when clicking through or is it just the text in the email that is different? Yes, there is a difference in the caches listed. I clicked the links to check it out, thinking it might only be a difference in text. B.
  16. Well, that's interesting. The email sent to my Premium Member account has a link to "recent caches near you". The email sent to my Basic Member account has a link to "caches near you". Seems like GS wants to give PM's the better chance at FTF's. B.
  17. This thread and the blog posted about this on the 10th of April. I just today received the email that announced it, with the title "We’re telling Premium members first!", this morning (the 12th). Good to know. Now I don't have to waste my time downloading something, and finding out it doesn't work for me. Will have to stick to bookmarks and pq's I suppose. B.
  18. Help Center - Apps http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=12 1.4. Change distance units (miles/kilometers) http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=770 B.
  19. If the other caches were archived, they wouldn't be a problem. Perhaps they are only "temporarily disabled"? Or perhaps yours is too close the the physical stages of multicaches, or to the final coordinates of a mystery/puzzle. Have you found all the active caches in the vicinity of your new hides? Did you record the coordinates of all waypoints associated with all the active caches? You might want to do a "coordinate check": Help Center → Hide a cache → Follow the guidelines 1.2. Check for minimum distance http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=199 B.
  20. Help Center → Hide a cache → Hide your cache 4.2. Coordinate formats http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=811 ***Go to the linked page to see the chart*** 4.1. How to get accurate coordinates https://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=673 B.
  21. Help Center → Trackables → Owning Trackables 4.9. Someone has had my trackable for a long time. How do I mark my trackable as missing? http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=397 https://www.geocaching.com/track/travelbugfaq.aspx B.
  22. How are you trying to find the cache by name? In the old search, it's possible to find a cache if you know the first word in the name. https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ In the new search, you can find a cache using the "Geocache Name Contains ..." option. https://www.geocaching.com/play/search# Perhaps if you outlined step-by-step what you are doing, that might help people understand better what the problem is, and could help you better. B.
  23. Haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Was this some sort of regional event/contest? B.
  24. The key here is that YOU are trying to access a website while at work. Your employer may very well be blocking you doing that. Lots of employers block sites like YouTube, etc, so their employees aren't frittering away company time. What "cropped up" when your wife was trying to log the rest of your finds? B.
  25. You did not "temporarily disable" your cache. You very clearly archived it. If you had done that by mistake, the Reviewer could help you. But it sure doesn't sound like you did it by accident. Help Center → Hide a cache → Ownership after publication 6.16. Unarchive a geocache http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70 B.
