  1. You took all the fun out of it. Thank you! How did I take all of the fun out of it? If it was by posting the obvious, can't say it WAS so obvious, since I could not find it myself #X*&^%$ I get you now! I head that the word "gullible " was to be removed from the dictionary. Can you imagine why?

  3. Perhaps you can point out the part of the guidelines where it actually says that? No one else can seem to find it. Moderator, can you help here? Now I can't find it. Not above admitting I am wrong if I am, but I swear it was there!
  4. You should learn to speak for yourself, and only yourself. I accept all of VKs finds as legit. And, there is no basic requirement that says that each log has to be physicaly (sic) signed. Yes, there is, per Groundspeak. No GC police to enforce it, however. To quote--"If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad." I'm only participating in this for the debate. Have fun however you want to. AND--still doesn't mean many of us outside of your own GC peer group do take you all seriously in our circles.

  6. Sorry, but that has already been addressed by Nice try, though. Yet the guidelines have not changed. I looked again. You have to physically sign to log if it is a physically (not a virtual or webcam) existent cache. I don't mean that they shouldn't change, but that they are what they are. I do not think cachers should be called out unless it's in clear violation of guidelines set by Groundspeak. Aren't they the authority? If one thinks that there needs to be a change, lobby Groundspeak toward that end, but don't belittle those who follow the "guidelines" as they exist, rather than how you feel they should.
  7. No, you did not. Unless you physicaly signed each log--basic requirement. Impossibility for the time frame you claim. However, it's obvious that you make these posts just to get a rise. You know no one acknowledges your "finds" as legit.
  8. My review of the Geocaching accepted rules confirms that if you sign a log for a cache, that is what constitutes a find. If you have not signed a log, you shouldn't log a find--whatever the reason!!!! When I attend an event, I sign the log for the event, and that is 1 find. If I find and sign logs on caches (with unique Geocache IDs) placed during that event, they are also logged as finds. I can't automatically log every cache placed for the event unless I have signed the log. So basic. However, there are no GC police--we are on honor system. Who cares who has more caches logged--anyone can lie here.
  9. It could be a letterbox. I found one when I was looking for a cache named Twelve Trunked Tree. It was in a 12 trunked tree not too far from the other twelve trunked tree that had the cache.
  10. Just keep caching and you won't be fat or feel old! I just signed up Aug. 14 and I've lost 10 lbs.!
  11. I find that shoes or boots designed for hiking--not just sneakers--have sturdier soles and my feet stay still in them and don't twist in the shoe nd create friction on my feet. I'm new to this and am logging so many more hiking miles than before I started that I'm now investing in socks and sock liners (who knew there was such a thing?!). I'm also looking at investing in a pair of super good hiking boots, as I want to do some backpacking trips and the ankle support will help since in my family--even the pets are clumsy!
  12. There has not been any posts for a while, but you might try this thread for some help if you need it. Wow. There is truly a good answer/source for one for everything here. Not so much in "Off Topic"--not going there for GC'ing info anyways, but I do love it there -- great non-caching day entertainment! Thanks for your help.
  13. Wow. Thank you. Now Bog Mouth (errr--fingers?) can keep track.
  14. Aside from the very obvious trail, there is much to see in this region and many of the local folks willing to add their two cents. Some fun to be had out in the desert. Yes, and thank you. Sarcasm aside, I've been to parts of the region in the past and have checked out some incredible blogs on Groundspeak by some who live there. I'll just have to learn how to use GSAK filters better if I go!
  15. My theory: This is all about parents who can never let their children experience disappointment. Scenario: I have been out caching with my daughter and she has begged "Let's do just one more" when we're out of trade items on a day we really didn't expect to be out long. We find another cache, and though she wants to put in a pebble from the ground to trade for a cool item, I won't let her and reiterate the rules and our code of honor. The cachers right behind us let all 3 of their children take an item and put a bottle cap in because thier children are whiny and they don't want to/can't possibly after this day -- deal with it. I have yet to place my first cache, but I do plan to stock--and restock--it well. I can only be responsible for myself ( and my daughter) and our ethics. The "swag" we've found in 99% of the caches we've found so far has had us logging "TN left (insert item)". I enjoy revisiting logs to see who liked our items enough to take them--but they (the items) don't have much competition. My daughter has cleared off a significant amount of space on her souvenir shelf to dedicate to Geocaching finds. It seems that like me, she would rather have a memento to remember how mom got stuck in thorns, or how we took the hardest way to the cache, or were morons in the woods in some other way, is more important than the value of the item. Still, a shelf full of pebbles and bottlecaps is a little lame.
  16. Guess I won't be planning any trips to that region any time soon, since it seems there aren't any places that are worth spending more than a few seconds to enjoy the reason the cache hider brought me to their special spot???? I'm very new here, but at the first event I went to, I heard someone say that they were adding some caches to "fill in" gaps along a popular tourist route--meaning throwing micros in guardrails for every .1 mile. I thought, "How sad--now those who want to place a cache in a meaningful spot nearby may not be able to due to cache saturation from this."
  17. Geocaching Competition is an oxymoron for me. Not to take away from other's 24 hour numbers achievements which are fine by me, but will never be a ruler that I measure myself by. Records when it comes to geocaching are a personal thing to me. My personal geocaching records are way more important than anyone elses will be to me and I could care less about prizes. What I don't get is whyyy folks want to argue the semantics of a record claim. So what. If someone wants to be recognized for their geocaching achievement I say good for them. It takes nothing away from me. What HE ^ said!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Thank you. Yes, I am Mindy. I'm thinking I may just keep my name after all, but go with the dragonfly logo like on my avatar. Hard to think of a cool signature item/logo--a dragonfly wearing a nurse's cap stamped on a coin??? A personalized bandaid or mini first aid kit with my caching name and a dragonfly? Hmm.
  19. I started caching with just the iphone app., but less than a month later I outgrew it due to the issue with having to have cell service. I got the Magellan Explorist GC, which I'm sure is just the next step up for me--I want a touch screen when I can afford it.
  20. Spend really bad weather days here, all over the forums. You'll be highly entertained outside of "Getting Started" and you will learn a lot.
  21. I want to thank all of you seasoned Geocachers who have so patiently answered the questions that you've probably seen posted too many times to count, yet still reply as if it was the first. You know--the "What does TFTC mean," (have posted that one myself) etc. I'm only a few weeks in, and realize that I could have gotten my answers by looking around a bit, yet NO ONE made me feel stupid by pointing that out. Made me feel very welcome. Down side (for you, not me ) is that now I feel like so much a part of this community that you have to put up with my opinions in "Off Topic" already. Sorry
  22. Thanks to both of you! Any, er....ideas? Feeling very unoriginal. I am a nurse and dragonflies and lightning bugs are my favorite critters. Kinda hard to combine them into a theme!
  23. For when/if I come up with a uber-cool one. I am so jealous of those with witty names, avatars, and signature items and am racking my brains for my perfect theme. Would I have to create a new account and re-log everything?
  24. I'm just slightly older at this than you. I was sooo happy to have the iphone app in the beginning, as $10 was the only way to make this accessible to me until I could afford a GPS. I just got one, and have t say, there are ins and outs to both. (not all inclusive--just my highlights) Iphone pros: -Not having to ever do "pocket queries" to get coords. -already own it & know the controls -TOUCH SCREEN (I know that some GPSs have this, but beyond my price) -Big screen--easy to see--blue dot thingy helps me! GPS pros (I don't have an expensive one--I have the Magellan Explorist GC, which was made for this) -Made with Geocaching exclusively in mind -WATERPROOOF--don't try that with your iphone --Can hang on a lanyard around my neck (try that for climbing to where you think the cache is--but isn't --since you already have an iphone, you can use both and have better luck -breadcrumbs!!!!!!!--tracks where I went in so I can follow it to get back out. Has been veeerrryy useful
  25. See above for my opinion.
