  1. dnelson1 sounds immature. Sorry about the setback.
  2. I don't believe this topic is still active. Different strokes for ... etc etc. Someone being direct doesn't neccessarily make them rude and arrogant. Some might have the preception of professionalism in some of the responses I've seen. ... and we all have bad days. Get some thick skin and get back on the trial of caches.
  3. I'm a Process Control Manager and you cannot track your trends without the failures. How do you know what to fix if you do not acknowledge it? Some call it the Deming Process or SPC. Being a rookie to G-Cache, I post my DNF's. In Benchmarks, I had 5 DNF's before I had my first success and then had two successes in a row!
  4. A good walking stick; a compass; a Leatherman tool; pocket knife. I like the idea of a rubber jar opener. That will prolly make it in the geo kit. Thanks!
  5. Hey Mano, List it. You've already done the hard part. No sense wasting the effort. Many people like the challenge.
  6. I work 50 miles from home every day in a small town with little to do on my lunch hour. I was sitting at my desk, working or reading. Not much in the way of getting out and relaxing some before the afternoon rush. Now I seek out benchmarks. There isn't much in the way of caches here either. What G-Caching has done for me is to get my butt out for an hour of activity. My evenings are to go workout for 2 hours and hit a cache or two around Longview. So it really has extended my exercise time from 2 hours to alomst 4 per day. Later!
  7. As with most things that hold value, games, work, everyday life, there are rules. If there were no rules, what fun would it be??? Example: If playing the game of baseball, you can't run outside the lines. You can't run into center field to avoid a tag. If there were no rules, the cross country guys would be playing baseball and running 3 miles (5K) to avoid tags. ... Stop lights. If we didn't have them to control traffic and laws to enforce their value, we'd look like Paris. Cars going everywhere with different speeds in residential neighborhoods with speeds excessive of 70MPH. I know I'm touching the extremities but this is to prove a point. Follow the rules. It's more fun for EVERYONE!!! Later!
  8. If your friend is looking to spend up to $75, might as well pony up and buy a new Garmin Etrex for about $90-$100. You can get 'em at Bass Pro or Academy Outdoors. You get the warantee and all that other stuff and eliminate the worry.
  9. Pasha, You DaMan! I thought I was on the right track but wanted some assurance before I went deep!!! Thanks for the info!
  10. I'm just getting into G-Caching and I've always had this Etrex. I've only used it to track in and out of hunting holes on rivers. Now that I'm into this. This could prove to be more addictive than duck hunting. I know I can change the coordinates on the "Mark Waypoint" page. If I change the coordinates before I leave home to locate the desired cache, how will this affect the location while traveling? Will it tell me when I'm close or have I screwed up in reverse? Set Waypoint to the coordinates of the desired cache; leave the house; what happens next? The reason I'm asking is I don't want to screw this thing up and have to send it off or throw it in a river. Any advice will be appreciated. Yamahammer
