I am not from WV, but we really enjoyed caching there last July. Thanks for some FANTASTIC caches! Some of the more memorable are listed on our Top Cache Experiences, accesible from my profile. Hope we can make it back next summer for another round of caching in Almost Heaven. Alchemist2000

Stumbled across an event on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website called Geocaching 101 to be held at Government Canyon State Nature Area on March 22. I gather that the park is still under development and not normally open to the public. Anyone know anything about this? Alchemist2000

Welcome to geocaching! Make sure you are logged in to the site, or it (and the download check boxes below each cache) will not be there. It is a little box (computer?) with a red arrow pointing down. It is immediately below the "Check All" button near the bottom right hand corner of the page. I hope this helps. Alchemist2000

I think this thread might have some related information, but I do not know the current status of a policy by the Arkansas State Parks. We would like to make a trip up that way, but decided to cancel our planned fall trip to Arkansas because so many caches had been removed from state parks. Anyone have any updated information?? I very much like the new state pages...great job!! However, I noticed something strange about the caches listed as latest caches hidden. I am not sure whether this is a bug or that I just do not understand what you are listing. There are currently three caches from Texas listed on the main geocaching.com page under newest caches: Bob Wills Memorial Cache (Texas) by Mudbug Austin Map Cache (Texas) by TxHiPowr Texas High School Football Cache (Texas) by Mudbug, HackPack and 9Key All three of these caches list 10/29/02 on their cache pages as the date they were hidden. However, on the new state of Texas page, only one of these, Bob Wills Memorial Cache, is listed. Alchemist2000

Just a reminder that the next NTGA meeting is 2 pm Sunday, October 27. There will be a presentation by the Resource Manager for the Fort Worth Nature Center on "A public land manager's perspective on site selection and resource protection as it relates to GeoCaching". She is a geocacher herself and very graciously helped host the recent NTGA Field Day. For more info on the meeting or on NTGA in general see the cache page or the NTGA web site. I finally got it (the newest beta version) working again after running uninstall and then reinstalling it. Neither the aerial photos or the topo maps would work. I don't know what the problem was, but it seems to be ok now. I love Expertgps and was seriously missing not having it!! Alchemist2000

I genuinely hope this issue is resolved soon. In the meantime, we also will be more careful about how and where we place any of ours into the wild. However, we are glad to announce publicly that we except to place one or two in California caches when we are there next month....We know how much Californians love Texas! For those that are interested in getting their hands on one, there are still lots of them in circulation. That is particularly true in Texas. In fact, the first one we placed in July in Rock Road Adventure (GC166B), which we think is the first Texas geocoin placed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has yet to be claimed. Alchemist2000

Congratulations on your upcoming milestone!! I agree with Webling that the caches in the national grasslands near Decatur, including Texas Double, are really outstanding. It continues to surprise me that they get such little traffic. I can only speculate that many people think it is a longer drive than it actually is. BTW...it is very hilly with great views, not anything like I visualized a "grassland" to be. I am also very partial to all of the caches in Dinosaur Valley State Park, near Glen Rose, southwest of Fort Worth. I think there are now four in the park, including a virtual which has yet to be found. We picked Blessed Solitude for our 100th cache. It still remains one of my all time favorites. It required a lot of preparation ahead of time, but that was half the fun for us. I would also highly recommend the caches in Tyler State Park, north of Tyler off I-20. We did those just this past weekend. This is an outstanding park. My personal favorite of those was Five Sisters, but we enjoyed all three of the caches in this park very much. Good luck on whatever you decide. Any geocaching adventure is better than sitting at home!! Alchemist2000
