  1. summit box - yep I strongly suspect that's what this is - I've not been in the area much so I just haven't caught on to similar games that may be on the go....thanks for replying.
  2. no it's a good point - I think I've solved this one but you have a good idea...thanks for replying!
  3. I think this is exactly what they are - I found two and they just happened to resemble a standard cache so much...
  4. yes I suspect it's just part of another manual hunt that is unrelated to this site, so I needn't worry about logging anything online if that is the case....thanks for replying.
  5. appreciate you taking a look into it - I suspect it's just part of another manual hunt that is unrelated to this site, so I needn't worry about logging anything online if that is the case....thanks for replying.
  6. yes there were signatures but no GC code etc - I have a feeling that this isn't part of this official site but it just a manual scavenger hunt out there - just worried I would miss one! thanks for replying...
  7. it's quite old and worn with no GC code in it, but some signatures - worth a try!
  8. good thought indeed, I don't think so in this case but thanks for replying...
  9. hi all, thanks for reading... I found an ammo can that appears to blatantly be a cache, but, it is not on the site - it could have been archived, or, belongs to another site/purpose, but, how can I find out if anything has been archived at this spot? it's at 'rundle 8', which is here: 51.081223, -115.425955 there is a cache quite close by, GC3Y9QF, but I'm aware of this one and found it. can anyone help me, in case it was archived and I could log it anyway? thanks very much, theridgeway
  10. thanks kindly for the quick response! so if I have 384/383 for those two numbers on a list, that mean there is a cache on the list that I have not found, is that right?
  11. hi all and thanks for reading... I have several lists in My Lists. under the 'caches' column there are two numbers for each list, and for all but one list they numbers are identical. what are those two numbers and how can I find out why one list has two different numbers? thanks for reading.
  12. hi there - while I only cache in london on occasion when I visit my parents, I noticed that event caches do pop up regularly in the city, where you can meet a bunch of cachers - keep your eyes open for one of those if it might suit you...
  13. hi all - sorry for the boring read, and doubly sorry if this has been addressed already (please point me in the right direction if so)... just tried to update my explorist 310 from 1.08 to 1.63, which failed with this "could not update" error: and now, when I try to start the 310, it is stuck on the opening screen with the spinning dial and never starts. I can't reset the unit as the instructions state because it never gets to the main page. I've reset it with the hidden button but no change. if anyone has any advice I would hugely appreciate. thanks, tr
  14. hi all, just lending some weight to this issue as well; starting two weeks ago, dates are not showing up properly when logging (can change manually of course, but now need to check), has nothing to do with seattle server times; on the 20th I pressed log find, and it defaulted to the 17th. on the 22nd it defaulted to the 20th. fellow cacher found same issue separately. pretty positive it's not at any user's end is what I'm saying.
  15. thanks all for the insight on this one - I'll update the firmware (which I've not done so it may very well be out of date), and really just wanted to put this out there to see if I was the only one.... thanks again, tr
  16. just checking to see if anyone else has a similar problem: when I start a new trip on my etrex20, I usually 'reset both' track data and numeric data so I get a fresh track and numbers, but, every few times, the 'reset both' reset them only for a moment, then the previous trip comes right back in and is lumped in with my new numbers. if I notice right away, I can reset again, but if I assume it worked the first time but it didn't, sometimes I'll have walked 500m only to find that it now says 14.5km total because it resurrected my previous 14km trip's numbers. I'm sure there's no fix but wondering if I'm alone with this. have taken to resetting 'both' twice or thrice every time I start as a habit, but it's still weird. thanks, tr
  17. ah thanks everyone...I sort of suspected this would be ok, and it is a 20+ year old program so won't really leech off any current popularity - anyway seems ok, I'm going to do it, thanks everyone for dropping a note about it... tr
  18. hi all; I'm sure it's been discussed before, point me in the right direction if possible... I was just thinking about making a puzzle cache based on trivia from a particular television show - just wondering if that's ok with the admin at geocaching.com, or if it's a trademark risk or something? thought there might be a precedent set already, I don't mind not making it but thought I'd see what info is out there before I go to the trouble of setting it up... thanks, tr
  19. lovely more pointless arbitrary design changes; everything was fine but at least we get to be inconvenienced every so often for the sake of some internet keepy-uppy nonsense
  20. thanks and good idea nancycle; I'll check out those finds and see if it's something I can easily put together...
  21. ah thanks wmpastor for checking. I checked some of my hardest terrain but came up 4 days short! anyway, just curious; how were you able to sort my caches by d/t so quickly? thanks, tr
  22. hey thanks for your help....I didn't think to check projectGC but you had a good idea so I did check, and it isn't there, bummer. I just wound up going through allllll my caches in a couple of hours, too bad, but it will do for now. I'm sure there are quicker ways with particular software (GSAK for example), maybe some time when I have too many to sift through. thanks for your reply, tr
  23. hi all and thanks for your help: today I found GC4DYRW but can't log it without meeting the criterion: In order to log this cache as a find, you must first find and log a cache that has been hidden by another cacher whose official cache name ENDS with each of the 36 alphanumeric characters AND you must also find and log a cache that ENDS with each of the 36 alphanumeric characters. The characters are A through Z and 0 (zero) through 9. Only the last character of the cacher's name counts, examples are as follows: * Foam Follower - counts for the letter R * Cache Seekers! does not count, as the exclamation mark is the last character. SorryCache Seekers! * 13Coach13 - counts for the number 3 * John&Deere placed a cache that is listed as being owned by 3rd Aldershot Scouts. The S does not count, as the player profile name is John&Deere... which would be an "E" Only the last character of the cache name counts, examples are as follows: * Lindt Hanging - counts for G * 31st Cub Cache #1 - counts as a 1 * What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?? - does not count, as the ? mark is the last character can anyone help me speed up this process? I shudder to think about going through all of my finds one by one to see if I made it, ugh! thanks, tr
  24. hi all, quick Q that may or may not be obvious, thanks for reading: I've found a challenge cache which I can only log if I have found a cache where I was the first person to find that cache in over a year. it doesn't matter which cache it was in my history, so long as my find was over a year since the previous find - is there an easy way to accomplish that? I might not have one that meets the criterion, but, I might and I don't know how to check them all. I don't have GSAK or anything but whatever might work, let me know... thanks, tr
