  1. After reading yet some more, I'd like to also consider some Magellan units. They sound pretty good, but they seem a little "clunky". How do they compare to the Legend?
  2. Er.... I've probably visited the page 10x now, and it hasn't changed except from the first-3rd day going down.
  3. After reading a bit, I'm fairly certain I want to go with the Legend, however there are suggestions to get an external antenna, which the eTrex family doesn't support. What models offer about the same features as the Legend, but have external antenna capability? Blue
  4. Because thats what they want to do. Both Garmin and Magellan do it that way. If you want to connect it to a computer you either find a serial port, or get an adaptor (I use ISOgear brand ones from Best Buy btw). OR I guess you could also buy a newer unit D'oh! Guess I should look at some more recent documentation other than a 10/02 instruction manual....
  5. Why don't they include a USB cacble standard? Most people with a GPS will have a computer that is USB-enabled, and do that many people have serial ports anymore?
  6. ok, I must ask what is going on at Amazon. 2 days ago, I looked ant the Legend was $144. A week or so before that (according to idiosyncratic) the price was noted at $131. It's $131 again. What's going on? Blue
  7. Ok, I think if I get one it'll be the Legend from Amazon. Looks fine for what I'm doing.
  8. I was originally considering ebay due to the low prices, but I want to buy from someone I know is trustable. Will Garmin honor the warranty if their product is purchased from Amazon? I may get a GPS for my birthday ths year, not sure yet....
  9. So, what would you recommend for maps? I checked on amazon for the Legend, says $144. Is this a permenent discount, or just for this month or something?
  10. Being noticed doesn't really bother me, if someone comes up and wonders what I'm doing, it's just word-of-mouth promotion.
  11. I've found a couple caches so far, with a bit of diffuculty as I have no GPS nor access to one. I realize it would be quite handy to have one, as my family travels a lot and we sometimes get lost. I have my eye on the eTrex family, especially the WAAS models. A person I know of said his GPSmap76s was accurate to 3ft. Is this possible? I thought the best you could get was around 3 meters. Anyhow, I'd like something with a dataport on the back, and (preferably) a map of US highways and roads, if not that the capability to download those. Any suggestions? Thanks, BlueNinja
