  1. Perhaps they saw it as the high point in their caching career and just haven't found anything else worthy. Yeah, that's the ticket! Sorry to rain on the parade, but we met Kevin&Susan at Duck Diving a couple of weeks ago. They are still actively caching! (There's photographic evidence. Here's the link to the log. ) They just stopped counting at 999. Given this, I'd say that Parsa and Dan-Oh have, indeed, been paid a high honor!
  2. LOL yeah straight up the hill, Zar had a ball setting it up and the final is probably under a 1000 feet from #1 Hmmm, in that case, maybe I should stop looking for WP1 and start looking for the final...(I found Airy Parsiflage 1000 feet off of my [faulty] coordinates...how hard could this be? ) I'm game for it. Alternatively, having never gotten started on the original, I'd be willing to test drive the result...
  3. I saw it. I have rather mixed feelings. I've tried to start this multi on three occasions but I've never found the first WP. Zar responded to my reports of DNFs (only one of which I've logged) and told me what to look for, but I still haven't found it. He's said that he'd check on it "real soon" but months have passed and he hasn't done so. He's offered to give me the coords for the 2nd WP so I could get going, but that hasn't happened either (but to be fair, I haven't pressed him for this. I assume that if I asked in earnest, he would send me the needed information.) My concern is that this particular multi has a lot of WPs. With the first one apparently missing and no one logging anything for months, there is a high probability that other WPs have gone missing as well. Based on earlier logs, this appears to be a high-maintainance cache. If Zar doesn't have the time to maintain this cache, perhaps he should put it up for adoption or let be archived. It's certainly not doing anyone any good in its current state. My hope is that this exchange with Hemlock will inspire Zar to go check all the WPs and make any repairs necessary.
  4. I too carry basic cache supplies and I've unofficially adopted a few caches as well. Now that I've cached for a while, I have mixed emotions about revamping unmaintained caches, especially when the owner isn't caching any more. Specifically, I've taken care of Nature Trail Cache (GC3D44) for over a year by replacing the container, adding a new log and new trade items. I've also looked after Old Glory Fletcher Point Peak (GCC8A) as well, with a replacement ammo can and new log. The first cache isn't very remarkable while Old Glory is a very cool adventurein a unique spot. I can edit neither page nor correct bad coordinates. (I've requested an adoption on Old Glory but thats a very slow process) I believe that most of the time, its better to archive an old cache and replace it with a new one. Having a cache page that can't be updated is a liability and can mess up future cachers. Outstanding caches that are rarely visited and that have an outstanding value can be worth maintaining as a cache community. That's my .02, what's yours? I've unofficially adopted one cache, Feel Your Way There (GCJAHM), because I particularly liked it and thought it would be a shame for it to go away. I've offered to adopt it officially, but that hasn't gone anywhere as far as I can tell. In general though, how I feel tends to depend on whether the cache is still there or not. If all it needs is a new log or pencil or the water dumped of it or a replacement tupperware, then it's a nice gesture to take care of the maintainance. On the other hand, though, if the cache appears to be missing (several DNFs on a cache that had no DNFs before, for example) and the cache owner can't be bothered to go check on it (and they don't respond to e-mail and haven't logged into GC.com for a year), then I tend to say "Archive it. Put it and us out of our misery." BTW, you've probably all noticed a sudden upsurge in archival activity. Several caches that have been SBA for months have suddenly been archived. Ditto, caches that have six months of DNFs piled up with no notice of the owner checking on the cache. Anyone know what changed?
  5. Here's my list of favorite caches (The only significance of the order is that this is the order that I found them): Sea Monkey Central Zis Is KAOS, Ve Don’t Bush-vaak Here! The Forbidden Forest Pants On Fire League of Extraordinary Geocachers And my favorite cache series: Stuck In The Merge Wizards Chess As The Crow Flies (and there are oh so many runners-up for this list...we are truly blessed )
  6. Yes! Excellent! Be sure to "Download Geocache browser in Google Earth". Great tool - adds caches to the map view automatically. That's really cool, but it will be better when you can filter out your finds. (I did note that filtering capabilities are planned for the future). The ability to overlay a travel bug's travels onto GoogleEarth is pretty cool too.
  7. We went out anyway. Actually, it wasn't too bad... We're cachin´ in the rain Just cachin´ in the rain, What a glorious feeling, And we're happy again.
  8. So...what you are saying is that we shouldn't blame you for all those evil caches after all? That the evilness is really Flagman's fault? BTW, if I go back six months ago, I had all caches cleared to 0.8 miles. Today, I've got all the caches cleared to... 0.8 miles. It's that doggone "Would You Like to Supersize This?" cache. I keep driving around the building but I never find it. After that, well, there's Chapter and Verse and then, let's see "Stay On Target..." Anyone sense a pattern here?
  9. Just when I thought I was getting close to clearing a 5 mile radius! Actually, I have a long ways to go. Kind of ironic, then, that Team Adelos has contributed considerably to the explosion (But I'm not complaining. I'm planning an expedition down that way real soon. )
  10. Thanks! And thanks to Dr. Boggis for his vote too!
  11. By the way, when I moved him out into the brush away from all the houses (something I don't recommend doing unless you know what you are doing...) I was astounded at how quickly his coloration blended into the grass. Two thoughts simultaneously occurred. 1) Watch where you put your hands and feet when hiking the canyons 2) This would be an incredibly good cammo pattern for a cache
  12. Speaking of snakes, this is the one that Ms. LLOT found lurking on our doorstep a couple of days ago. He looked so cute with his bandit mask and all, but we still didn't let him into the house...
  13. That's the problem, I don't know where the voting takes place! You can click on the photo to get to the submission page, but nothing about voting there! Each photo goal has a certain timeframe for you to submit a photo. Once the submission time is over, they eventually get around to putting the pictures up here: http://jeep.geocaching.com/photos/ So once yours goes up, you have to find it, click on it (to get a page like this) then tell everyone to vote for it! I'd suggest putting a link in your forum sig and then taking a keen interest in the forums for a few weeks By the way, if there's anyone who still has a vote to throw away on last month's contest, here's one we liked (but then we are biased 'cuz it's our entry... ) ( Log Link ) It looks like this:
  14. It's more creative than most of the pictures that get submitted.

  16. I'll bet you're not as sorry as we were...on Sunday, we were standing in a eucalyptus grove with a wrench ( ) and our lifeline call was answered by a recorded voice that said (paraphrasing) "...my shoephone is broken, please leave message..." Xtreme Bummer!
  17. The B-52s....Roam Supertramp....Take the Long Way Home Genesis....Follow You, Follow Me Alright, alright, I AM old! Here's a few more for your consideration: Here, There and Everywhere Why Don't We Do It in the Road The Long and Winding Road Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except For Me and My Monkey Fool On the Hill All by the Beatles !
  18. The B-52s....Roam Supertramp....Take the Long Way Home Genesis....Follow You, Follow Me Alright, alright, I AM old! Hey! The good stuff never goes out of style... (you could always claim that this is what your parents listened to...)
  19. We've only seen one yellow jeep. No white ones. Hopefully anyone who finds one will try to keep it in San Diego so we'll all have a chance! We'd been chasing Lynsey around for the last couple of weeks, never quite catching up to her -- so when Lokidog dropped her off, we swooped in and snagged both Lynsey and the yellow one, too. Never fear though. They'll both be back in circulation soon _in_ San Diego.
  20. Nice Photo Night Hunter. You can see more photos and the story here. Keep at it Rocket Man, one day you rocket guys will figure out how t' build one that can fly straight. We saw the launch on our way back from Tom & Jerry's Locker (GCQKW8). It was very impressive watching it go from second to thrid stage. Here's our picture of it (Not as nice and clear as the other, but that's what you get with a cellphone...)
  21. Bit hard to tell, but I saw an aerial shot where it looked like the fire burned to the edge of the trail. If so, the easter eggs on the south-east side may be fried.
