  1. I use to think it was 4 mb free, but 6 mb total (that includes the 2mb basemap). But it looks like you mighty be right... Wyatt W.
  2. Which sportrak do you have, I not totaly sure if you have the sportrak yellow, or the sportrak map? The yellow does not accept maps, and the sportrak map accepts 4 mb of maps from mapsend streets and destination and mapsend topo. Wyatt W.
  3. Hmm, in my meridian you can turn the compass off (menu-setup-compass orint.-check that magnetic compass is activated). Also try recalibrating the compass (menu-setup-compass recalibration), and see if it wants you to do an advanced calibration. If it wants you to do one, do it. Wyatt W.
  4. It claims you can create one single region of 240mb. Wyatt W.
  5. I see it says the street data is Navteq based, not sure how I feel about that. Seems navteq data is pretty good in the cities, but it leaves allot to be desired in the "back country". I wonder if they will supplement the navteq data with other providers, or if that is what the increased trail data is for. Wyatt W.
  6. A link to the new mapsend topo: http://www.magellangps.com/en/products/pro...asp?PRODID=1044 Looks like the newest feature is that it is based on 30 meter squares DEMS, rather than 90 like the older program. Seems to have more trails, and data about the trail. Claims you can have one region up to 240 mb in size. More POI's. Wyatt W.
  7. I just wondering how many of you archive your caches during the winter time, and how hard it is to unarchive them in the spring time? I am thinking of archiving my first/only cache in a few weeks because it will lose it's cover, and the park it is in is less intresteing without the flowers. But on the hand I hate to remove it because it is the only one in my community of 11,000-13,000. Wyatt W. Just wondering what other people do...
  8. I don't have the software, but a few ideas are to download any new software updates from magellan site (www.magellangps.com). Also this is the orginal CD, not a copy? Wyatt W.
  9. 253mb is a pretty big download... is there a location where I can see a map to see whether it is worth the download? Wyatt W.
  10. A 315, will be able to display 3 places if you hit menu-setup-cord system-lat/long-dd mm.mmm (I think it is that order, I don't have my unit on me right now). I not sure sure if a firmware upgrade will be needed, but if you don't have that option you should download the newest from magellan (well you should download it anyways because it make the unit behave allot better in regards to auto-averaging). Wyatt W. Edit: Should note the newest software version is 3.15
  11. Magellan has a map viewer here: https://www.magellangps.com/en/products/mapsendweb/ . I personally am pretty happy with the street detail it has for my area, but as others may have said it varies from place to place. Wyatt W.
  12. The problem was with heading and COG (cource over ground), with units that have a magnetic compass heading will always dispaly the E-compass setting (even if you have it off), while cog displays GPS determined heading. Wyatt W.
  13. Where was the orginal post (sorry I been busy for a while, so I did not read all the threads)? If I remember right, it was explained in the suplment with my platnium (not the manual-not sure if it is in the manual with the sportrack color). Kind of suprised no one here or at magellan knew that. Wyatt W.
  14. Most of that data has little use (except ETE) if your not using it on a boat or a plane. I think the Manual may have definitions of this data towards the end of it... Wyatt W.
  15. Uh yeah, I forgot to mention that I hardly ever hook my GPS to my PDA. It just seems to be too much of a pain to carry around, and I not real happy with most the programs availalbe. It also is a pain in the butt to try to mess around with the screen on the PDA while moving. Wyatt W.
  16. I have an ipaq and the meridian; I usually hook my GPS to the pda to plot my self on maps or aerial photos (ozi CE), or you could use it to store waypoint/routes/tracks. I purchased my cable fro pc-mobile, it works fine, but I am a little worried about the quality of their stuff. My AA battery extender cable needs to be positioned just right to work, and I bought the cable for my ipaq that I could also charge the unit and use the GPS at the same time; right now just the GPS part works. Wyatt W.
  17. My meridian came out to N37 05.634 W088 37.379, my GPS V (only lets distance to a tenth of a mile) comes out to N37 05.637 W088 37.403 . Both units set to true north and same map datum. Wyatt W.
  18. The map 330 does, and most of the recent Magellan units (315/320, meridian's, sportrack's). I also believe most of the Garmin units project too. Although I think Magellan and Garmin use different methods and the results are slightly different. So you may want to post a test example on here and see what people get with diffrent GPSr. Wyatt W.
  19. So did your sister look into the laser beam for an extended period of time? How did the laser pointer damage her eye? It was at our state fair a few years ago (at the height of the laser pointer popularity) and some kid shined it in her eye. I not sure how long she looked at it, but I think she tried to figure out where it was coming from so it may have been in her eye for a little while longer than just a passing glance. She claims to see a line whenever she blinks, she also went to an optometrist about the problem and he said the laser pointer is a likely cause of her problem (I have to ask her next time I see her whether she remembers what the injury was called). Wyatt W. I don't really want to doubt what you are saying either but ... First if it is really a problem have your sister go see an ophthalmologist one that deals with cornea cases, not an optometrist. Also the doctor she did see said the laser pointer is "a likely cause" but there could be others, right. But I do have to say that would be the first time I have heard of anyone getting damage from something other than direct, fairly close, and somewhat prolonged exposure. Does anyone not think in our society of excessive regulations that if there was a sniff of these things causing problems that they would not be outlawed or regulated in some way? Hell they regulate spray paint and as one person said earlier glue. And yes people it is a case of parents being parents and not "friends" to their kids. And to not expect the rest of society to care or be parents to the snot nosed delinquents they have set loose on society because they are too busy with the rest of their self-indulgent life and had kids only because they needed that to round out the family photo on the desk or whatever poor excuse it was. I talked to her and she said it was called "floaters", she also said that it is not as much of a problem as it once was. I was also not aware of the difference in eye doctors, and just put the one I thought it mighty have been. I personally think laser pointers are cool (I bought one that I could use rechargeable batteries in just so I could use it all the time). But I sometimes wonder when the right age to give some one a pointer. For example I am an assistant scoutmaster and there is this one kid (high school and not some one I normally would call stupid) that keeps trying to jump in my laser beam just so it's in his eyes. If he had the chance he would stare in it as long as possible. Wyatt W.

  21. I know my sister (30) has some permanent eye damage from some stupid kid that bought a laser pointer at our state fair. Wyatt W.
  22. I have windows CE version 3.0.11171 on my IPaq 3955 (ppc 2002 copyright 1996-2001). Wyatt W.
  23. For $300 dollars you can get a PDA to do more than that (have more memory, more programs that run on it, can hook several different types of GPS to it, pocket quires....). Seems kind of a waste of money to me. Wyatt W.
