  1. I got mine yesterday (ordered 11/24), they sent it 2nd day air!
  2. I hope not, because I still have 4.01 Unlocked at that!
  3. I use one of these, although I guess it's a bit out of your budget. http://www.boatersworld.com/webapp/wcs/sto...catalogId=10051 LOVE IT I didn't get it for geocaching though, but it works perfect for it.
  4. Personally I love my GPS V, sounds like a good deal to me. I only wish it would hold more than 18 meg of maps.
  5. I guess you're not sure which order you received it for?
  6. When did you order your upgrade DVD? I ordered mine on 11/24 and still havn't received it yet!
  7. While it doesn't have WAAS, it does have a great anteanna. I have a GPS V, and it's basicaly the same unit, just with autorouteing and WAAS. Often in the woods I don't really get a D lock anyhow. For the longest time I had WAAS disabled because it has a tendency to screw up my MAx Speed stat. Once it kicks in, it registeres as a ridiculous speed reading becasue you move from one spot to another real fast.
  8. A better choice would be to buy a good compass and set your GPS to output the magnetic bearing to the waypoint. This will give you a huge boost in locating the cache as the GPS is zeroing in. I use GPS V and a Weems & Plath hocky puck style compass and I love it. The GPS V gets me there by road, then I recaculate to OFF ROAD navigation and my compass helps me find the right direction when I get close.
  9. Well, I'd argue that it already is dynamically sized, in that the user can select which and how much to download. But the small-sections are more dynamic (i.e., offer more versatility) than the large sections. I don't really see any advantage in the large sectioned version (am I missing something?). I was thinking, a system where you select ONLY the area you want, and the map program would chop it up into the proper segment sizes. So you could forseably, gather map data only along your planned route if needed, and you would not need to download data that you do not need off in the boonies or something. THAT WOULD ROCK But I don't see this happening anytime soon.
  10. Thanks for clearing this up! I was going to call garmin and ask about it but had not had time. I don't need to worry about it any more then I guess. I was just worried when people were saying they received CN instead of CS that they ordered! CN has more detailed maps in terms of having directional codes or something. So if you have a bunch of 1 way streets I don't think CS has that information, where CN does.
  11. They really need to create a version with dynamic map size capabilities.
  12. Yikes This is really scary, I won't even be able to use CN because my GPS 5 will only hold 18 meg of maps. It looks like CN maps consist of an entire STATE! Everyone cross your fingers for me!
  13. I ordered a CN update disk on 11/24 by accident, then ordered the CS disk right after. Received the CN disk a few days ago, and did not receive the CS disk. So I called up Garmin and they said the CS disks were on backorder and they would be receiving a batch this week and next, he said I would get the disk in one of those two shipments. I really hope I get CS because I have a GPS V and I don't wan the larger map sizes. On another note, although I purchased my GPS like 3 years ago, I never unlocked my v4.01 CS because it offered me nothing that my autorouteable metroguide v3 had, so I'm going to try to activate it when I get my V7 disk in the mail. Will I have a problem? If I understand correctly I would then qualify for a free upgrade to V7 since I am just now activating v4.01 right?
  14. I cache alone most of the time. I use to take my dog, but now I have 2 and that would be too much. My wife has gone on a few finds, but that's about it. I've probably taken a friend 2 or 3 times. I even cache alone at night.
  15. Vertigo

    New cache icons

Well I came here to say I don't like them, but I guess I'm all alone... Anyhow I'll get use to them, keep up the good work!
  16. Make sure you voice your opinion to Garmin as well. The problem is that they have changed their map vendor, and for the worse IMO.
  17. We have a 72 acre club and I'm looking to create a map for our website that outlines certain areas. Is there any software that will help me plot areas with GPS data?
  18. My NiMH are so tight that thre are dimples in the - end of the batteries from the pressure.
  19. Mine locked up too on a long trip (900 miles). Luckily I had my laptop and I could downgrade (but I lost all my waypoints )
  20. Yes I noticed it right away too... really annoying and I'll probably go back to 2.04 or 2.05 until they fix it. Other then that it performs pretty good.
  21. I'm about to make a trip and I wanted to make sure I wouldn't have any problems with updating to this version. I've been running 2.04 and it is solid. I had troubles with 2.03 I think. how is 2.07?
  22. I think my eTrex lost a lock much more often than my GPS V. And I hated having to hold it horizontal all the time. I'd say hands down GPS V if you want a real GPS. If you're just looking for something easy to hold and will go around your neck, then get the Vista. But IMO these aren't good reasons to buy a GPS. Edit: Well I did have a legend, and it didn't have the compass. The compass is a really cool feature and YES it will help you for geocaching, but I'd give up the electronic compass for the autorouting anyday, autorouting just rocks.
  23. I use some Rayovac 1600mAh NiMH rechargeables (purchased at walmart for like $10). I also have the Rayovac 1 hour charger which works great. I charge them up before I leave and they have allways lasted all day for me, even into the night witht eh backlight on. I still carry spares just in case, but I've never had to use them. I LOVE my 1 hour charger
