  1. $100 brand new in box Well, I had this unit and recently gave it to a local cacher who was using a navigation GPS. It was a great unit, expecially because it would route you to the cache via roads (with the correct maps loaded), but that was almost 10 years ago when I got it. I'm not sure I would spend $100 on it today. You can probably get a better more sensitive unit for just a little bit more money.
  2. There is actually a workable solution that does not require the above. The user note can be appended to the long description field with a NOTES: string attached; it would then be visible in all systems that can display the long description. Not a good long-term solution, but as a patch until third-party applications start to understand a new field, it would be usable today. This seems like the best immediate solution, this should be done now!
  3. I too paid for my windows version of CR. While I am glad to both see the new version and that it is free, it is maddening to know that I shelled out $'s for it. I paid for it too, but I still feel I got my money's worth out of it. Then again, I got it when it first came out. I would be upset if I paid for it a month ago!
  4. The OP has obviously never used a 3GS, 3G or any other phone with a GPS in it, because the iPhone 4 GPS is freakin incredible compared to the rest. I've hardly had to even fire up my PN-40 since I got the iPhone 4.
  5. I use to before I had a compass in my GPSR. The key is to have a readout on your GPSR that gives you the magnetic compass bearing to your destination (the cache), without that it's pretty much pointless to bring a compass along.
  6. Wait... you don't wear an animal suit when you cache?
  7. This show is Comedy Gold. Too funny watching this.
  8. I have this problem too, although I'm sure that's not a surprise.
  9. More so than I use to, however I will not if I didn't really put an effort into it. But if I really look for a cache and do not find it, I log a DNF.
  10. There was a Red Bra nearby this cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...f3-04e8544aaf7c It's the "flag" everyone is referencing.
  11. Honestly, I'm ashamed to admit that I was getting frusterated with snow caching lately. So I modified my pocket query to only show caches that have been found in the last 7 days
  12. One thing that I have noticed with the PN40 that I really love is that it doesn't waiver, it picks a spot and pretty much sticks with it. Granted I only have an old GPS V and LEgend to compare with, and they would be all over the place, moving around quite a bit. The PN-40 picks a spot and pretty much commits to it. This is an attribute of accuracy. I can't wait to see what it will do with a WAAS connection. which I have yet to see.
  13. Field Notes will be available very soon, that will solve your logging complaint.
  14. I will be using my Amazon addiction to purchase, price is better than Tiger right now too.
  15. I looked into it, and I'm going to pull the trigger on the PN-40 on my next payday. I can't wait.
  16. I use it alone sometimes, I find the compass pretty worthless. However the satelite map is awesome, you can pinpoint the cache with nearby landmarks.
  17. Why don't you get the iPhone app. It's only $2.99 right now, will be going back to $9.99 soon I think.
  18. I just ordered a Garmin Venture for my wife. This unit will be for caching only, and does not have map capabilities, but does come with a PC cable to upload waypoints. I probably could have gotten the Legend for just a few bucks more though at Walmart.com, but I'm not to worried about it. I picked the Venure up at amazon.com, for $119 and free shipping. I was going to get just the garmin yellow, but decided not to when I found out the PC cable was ~$30! I've been using GPS V for almost 4 years now, and I see no need to replace that one. Street maps and auto-routing is VERY nice for getting to the cache area. Edit: Amazon actually has the Legend for only $4 more, and that's totaly worth it! I should have bought that one, but I didn't even look for it. I guess I could return the Venture and get the Legend. Then again for what it will be used for, the Venture might be better just because it has a longer battery life.
  19. Zarley Although he hasn't been in a while with me
  20. You tell the GPS where you want to go and it uses maps to route you there. Turn by turn.
  21. I use GPS V and Palm m505 with cachemate and gsak.
