  1. I have a few caches in the area that at times get a visit from reservist who are training.
  2. When I see a bag in a cache with no holes I can’t help myself but to stab 3 or 4 holes in it. I then quickly wipe my fingerprints away and put an innocent pencil or pen in the bag to take the rap.
  3. Yes not his job it should be everyone’s. Ok that was a little to far but I think it nice that as a cache owner tries to make sure that TB that pass through are accounted for. Last thing he probably wants is his cache to become a place where TBs vanish from all the time.
  4. Of course you would not try it at home, you would try it on train tracks.
  5. NO ENDORSEMENT IMPLIED http://www.logicweave.com/cachestats.html
  6. Well if it’s an ammo can they can see for themselves that they can’t open so why try? I found quite a few good old plastic containers that been torn open and removed by critters. If I remember right, the type of containers I seen ripped open were. Pill bottle Peanut butter bottle Film canister Gladware
  7. I used to note my trade in both online and paper log now I only make a note of the trade if I took some type of travel bug or geocoin. The only other time I log a trade if it was an unusual trade item found.
  8. I have one cache (GCV0RX) that is on a historic site in Wisconsin and it took nearly 3 months to get approval from the local historical society. Just remember be patient and flexible. Also, I made sure that the cache was not actually on any historical items and the hint is a dead give away to make sure that no one presumes it might be hidden else where. Good luck on your endeavors.
  9. Coupons and discounts are neat to find but can be quite useless. While visiting another city and picking up caches in the area I found a coupon for a free sub at a local sub shop. I took the coupon and thought that it would be nice to stop at the shop to get a sub for myself and rest of the family. Now the coupon says good only at "x" location... Uhmmm not from around here where the heck is that at. Geeez wish store owners had their coordinates on the card. Anyhow the coupon ended up in the trash later because we could not pin down where on "x" street that this sub places was at.
  10. Gas prices have cut out our caching to only those around a place we already have to travel to. Last winter and summer if we woke up and felt like caching we went. With today’s prices we no longer just go caching to go caching. Other task must be fulfilled to justify the cost. $3.09 in central WI..
  11. This topic is on the Wisconsin geocaching association (WGA) forums as well. Members of the WGA are doing a great job of working this situation out and I applaud them for their work. The WGA and its members have made in my assessment great strides over the past year with several state organizations and agencies in promoting and learning about geocaching. The most recent is being that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) actually is now endorsing geocaching. Once again good job for those who are resolving the problem and educating the locals in the area.
  12. I’m worried about the stones creating wear on the inside of the tank. Or worse yet I would get two stones that would actually hit each other on a turn and would spark. I think I just fill my tank up 1/2 way with Styrofoam. briansnat you have the ideas that need to be published.
  13. Well here what I found out so far by goofing around. I can use the selections and archive button on the list when deleting 1-3 PQ at a time. I got the message when I tried to remove 9+ Pq at the same time. I unfortunately ran out of PQ’s to delete before I could pin down at what point (number of Pq’s being deleted) that this would happen. So for now I know that nine created the problem. System info for those who like to know. Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519) Processor: Intel® XEON CPU 2.00GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2048MB RAM IE: Version:6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2
  14. I know if I go into each PQ I can go to the bottom of the selections and hit the “Delete this query” button to remove the PQ from my list. I see that there is a selection box on the list and an “archive selected PQ’s” button at the bottom of the page. When I try to do it all I get is: “Something happend and the queries could not be archived.” Is this feature functional?
  15. Ditto that, Briansnat! Ditto on that Ditto
  16. That's an awesome idea. Giving the owner recongition for his hides. I liked it so much I put together a page. let me know what you think. If everyone thinks its a good idea, I will forward it to TPTB and hopefully they will implement it. What a great idea and a way to let others know you placed a cache... Your so on top of things briansnat. I can't wait for GC.com to implement your suggestion.
  17. here is a link to one of the ones I talked about. Nair, not what you think
  18. There is one of a cinderblock and another of a manhole cover (about 100 lbs I was told).
  19. Your misreading my post I think it is great that his son got such recognition but the graphic is odd. I’m not doubting that his son got recognized or anything just wondering why the photo is off. If it actually engraved by hand on the coin and photo was made to show an example of where the tracking number is then fine. I’m just wondering why the tracking numbers look like they were placed on top.
  20. I utilize Photoshop everyday in my work and it is quite easy to tell that the tracking number is not originally part of the coin. The size proportion is wrong. The words are skewed. The color around the tracking number is off and the texture does not match. Then to add to it the icon is from the Spinning geocoin. It is great you son did meet the President but what is up with this coin?
  21. Please come to Wisconsin to get your fair share of ticks. This is the worst summer in 7 years. Our yard is not even safe this year.
  22. I not 100% positive on this but if I remember right your bearings is your location or spot you are at. An object can also have a bearing as well. So, if you traveling north something like a tree can be at bearing 220. Heading is exactly that, the direction that you’re heading or an object is. My question would be is that bearing 320 from magnetic north or from cache direction based upon the landmark? Please note been long time since I actually used a compass and pulling this information out of my grey matter that been covered with webs.
