  1. You may have just stated my problem. When I view a cache description page on the PN, I do not see the GC cache code anywhere. Could this be why my FNs do not upload. I checked your link regarding Clyde's work, but I am kinda dense in that macro area. I do use several macros with GSAK, but understanding the way they are created is beyond me. If I do a hard reset will that loose the maps I have installed to SD card. Also can firmware be obtained at Delorme.com and installed by myself? Thanks for your help and patience.
  2. 90% of my field notes are empty. Never had a problem. When you do the steps above, open Windows Explorer. You should see a drive letter, probably E (depends on your system), with a volume name of "EM_USERMAPS" Assuming you have recorded Field Notes, the file should be right there. If it's not, then CR will do you no good, because it can't upload a file that doesn't exist. CR is well worth the $10 to me, not just because of this feature. I can see the FN.txt file and open txt editor and can see the Field Notes listed, they will just not upload to GC.com. I will try CR. Is CR a dl from Delorme, or do I have to wait for a disk via snail mail? CR is a download. You're saying that when you're on this page, browse for the file, and click "Upload Field Note", you can't upload it? I wonder if there's something pooched with your gc.com account. Yep, pooch, no workie. Ill try CR for FN uploads. Will continue to use GSAK for PQ manipulation and dl to GPS, so powerful. Thanks to all for responses. Ill keep tinkering with it. BCF Purchased and dl'ed CR. Was able to sync PQs from GC.com. Did test upload of Field Notes, no Notes uploaded to GC.com FN page. Also tried to import custom GPX files from GSAK. Those did not load to device. They are in CR, but did not load to device. Also noted in CR help file that FNs will only be uploaded for caches loaded to device with CR. What's the deal with that? So far, without ability to upload FNs thru CR or manually from GC.com, not impressed with PN 30, except it will hold 1000 caches. Still seeking solutions, Thanks

  5. At this point I am wondering if I should get Cache Register and use it. Is that a download from Delorme, or is it a disk sent in the mail. If CR will work for field notes, I can use it, it is just frustrating that I can not get PN 30 to work directly via upload to GC.com Field Notes and have to use an additional app. Thanks
  6. This is copied from the Delorme instructions tab on "Upload Your Field Notes File" page: To upload Field Notes from your DeLorme Earthmate PN-40: 1. Plug your PN-40 into your computer with a USB cable. 2. From the Geocaches Page, press MENU, highlight "Upload Field Notes" and press ENTER. 3. Click "Browse" on this web page and go to the PN-40's internal drive (EM_USERMAPS). 4. Select the file named "FieldNotes.txt" and click "Upload" on this page to upload your Field Notes. 5. On your PN-40, press the ENTER button to return to normal GPS use. 6. We recommend that you delete the "FieldNotes.txt" file on the PN-40 once your Field Notes are uploaded. Once the Field Notes are uploaded you can return to the Field Notes list page to start logging your finds. Process is the same for the PN-30. Thanks, I have tried performing function exactly as instructions direct and using various other methods, including "Map Transfer" mode as someone local suggested after they found that is the only way they were able to upload "FieldNotes". When I search the PN 30, I see a message that the "FieldNotes.txt" file can not be found, but I have confirmed I have many caches in the "Found" state. When I log a cache, I got to log find screen, select TFTC, for brevity, select ADD, and scroll to the Done button. Does "FieldNotes" require text to be entered manually in to the data field inorder to create a "FieldNote.txt" file. I have also tried this on another computer that has successfully loaded "FieldNotes" from their PN 30 to GC.com "FieldNotes". I do know that I can receive "FieldNotes" since I am able to send them from my Blackberry to GC.com from the field. I am beginning to wonder if there is a problem with my PN 30 software. BCF
  7. Hello, I am having difficulty uploading field notes from PN-30 to GC.com field notes page. My computer does recognize the fieldnotes.txt file on the PN-30, however when I select upload, GC.com replies with "0" field notes found. Are you aware of any tricks to getting this working. Someone told me that I need to set up as map transfer, rather than data transfer when PN30 is connected. I have tried both methods with same unsuccessful result. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide
  8. I am able to perform the actions mentioned above, however they only load as waypoints, I can not get them to load as geocaches so I can import the description or hint data. what is not happening here. I was able to do this once sometime ago, but can not get it to work now.
  9. Couple of questions, has anyone experienced loading the 400 using GSAK. Also how are waypoints removed from the VantagePoint app. I can remove from unit manually, but can not remove from VP. Thanks, T
  10. Keeper, just a note, your Nuvi will hold at least 60,000 caches with cache page, hints, logs, and pics in internal memory. Use GSAK macro to load. Also, where did you find the free topo map for Nuvi you referenced? T
  11. Is anyone aware of means to search for or macro to determine the most popular or found cache in an area over a determined period of time. e.g. what is the most found cache in zip code 75243 for the month of August 2009. Perhaps a tricky macro is available to be run from a PQ dl in an area. Thanks for some feedback.
  12. Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the GS TOU. We are both PM's. The PQ she is submitting is her My Finds and I am assisting/training her on how to export to the GSAK macro so she can get all those pertty charts and stuff for her profile page. As far as waiting for data to update, I have seen delays of up to more than a week. I will check the multiple finds aspect, but I do not think this is the problem. I have experienced the same issue with my own PQs and am careful to delete duplicate logs from data in GSAK.
  13. Is anyone experiencing a delay in up to date data when running a "My Finds" PQ from the provided link on the My Pocket Queries page. I have experienced on many occasions that when I run the subject PQ, my listed finds totals are not current and it may take up to a week for my most recent logged finds to be collected in the "My Finds" PQ. What's up with that? Example:, was just provided a PQ from friend that has 5001 finds listed on totals in profile however the "My Finds" PQ only returned 4973. We together did her last 50 finds in the last week. This is frustrating when trying to update profile page.
  14. Bingo! or, like me; I got a new computer and needed to re-load this 'feature' for GE and that is when I noticed it was gone. Of course, a quick google search today and its up and running again. got it off the GC website. So you're saying caches still show when you're on Goole Earth ??? I don't think so....! I don't understand why some people would still be able to see the KML's , while others can't when that option has been terminated. What version of Google Earth are you using and what did you "get off of the GC website" that enables you to still see the KML's (caches) ??? I THINK SO!!! I still get the kml on GE I downloaded it about a week or two before thay said "no more" It still works for me. I am still able to view mine. Hopefully GS has had a change of heart.
  15. This no workie, I get this message: The listing has been locked and is not accepting new log entries. Any other suggestions
  16. If a coin ends up in one of these Virtual Graveyards and is later found, can and how can it be retrieved?
  17. Me too. The new trick is for Groundspeak to get better dedicated servers to run this place on. It has never been a hardware issue. Unfortunately there are problems that can't be solved by throwing money at them. That's a good one OP. Perhaps you can share that concept with the President, the Federal Reserve, and the Big Three.
  18. I get a kick out of this paragraph: Groundspeak hesitates to inconvenience even a small number of geocachers. However, it is sometimes necessary for us to identify areas of performance loss as the site grows in order to keep the site responsive and available at all times, even if it means sacrificing a feature that some found useful. Obviously we would rather introduce new features than take them away, so we hope you can understand the uncomfortable situation this places us in. I've heard that before from the IT folks at my company. "We've upgraded the hardware", or "We have a new release." I say it tongue in cheek, but those are words the users dread. It usually means slower performance or blotted software to eliminated the potential performance improvement by upgraded hardware. I really dig a lot of the features GS has come up with, PQs, Field Notes, and even the Tweeter app. I guess something has to give but I was one of the 200 users that enjoyed the KML feature immensely. I travel frequently, 4-5 different airports a month and really enjoyed using this feature to determine cache density around my work sites. I guess I'll have to go with Plan B.
  19. Oh, but that's ok because they used the word "angel" in their log. Had they said "cheap throw down film can junk" then you would have to delete the log. Now that's a new one, "angel cache". One person's angel cache is another person's throw-down film can junk. Oh, and the original cache is probably still there. I had not encountered this phenomenon until last weekend in Nashville during GeoWoodstock VII. See this cache - lots from both the CT cacher who replaced the (possibly) missing container, and the CO who didn't mind. Tossing out a container when one can not be found and not logging a DNF. Down here in Texas, that is considered bad form. Why even use a GPSr? Just drive by the general area, throw an Altoids tin out the window and post a smiley.
  20. I'm working on a fix for "Found". Change the Waymarking name format in advanced options to: %Name-%Found j Thanks buddy, that took care of my Waymark issue. I think I am beginning to really dig this macro, much faster than previous version. Previous version took over five hours to GSAK and POI to Nuvi what now just took about 15 minutes. I still have a problem with the Past Log section though. I GPX'ed and POI'ed a list of AZ caches approx 3100 and got all the previous logs, however my load of TX caches, 18000, did not capture the Past Logs. I wonder if it is relative to the size of the GPX file in GSAK. I have in the past been able to get as many as 50,000 GSAK'ed GPX's through the POI loader to my Nuvi. Any thoughts?
  21. I have several thousand Waymarks in GSAK that I was able to load in my Nuvi 205 last week. I have just upgraded to the new GPX macro and now I am unable to send the Waymarks from my GSAKdb to my Nuvi. Can anyone provide feedback on this problem. Also, does anyone know why some GC gpx files provide the last logs in the Nuvi view and others do not. Both of these worked with pilotsnipes macro 1.3 but do not seem to be functioning with this new 7.X version. Thanks,
  22. Applies right across all Groundspeak sites. Thanks all, I have submitted my request.
  23. Can someone tell me if a username change is granted, are logged caches changed as well, or does this require a reposting of each cache find under the new username? Will this username change also apply to Waymarks? Not to excited about manually relogging 1200 cache logs. Thanks, tdl
  24. PQs are data. Bookmarks are just pointers to cache pages. Apples and Oranges. So you are saying that I can own an Apple but not and Orange. The end result of Apples and Oranges are the same, to end up with a list of geocaches. Does it matter whether they are carmel on a stick, sliced and baked in a pie, dipped in chocolate, or mixed with vodka. They both will be consumed if allowed by the owner of the tree. Huh, what was that all about. Anyway, do you get my confusion. I'm just saying if someone wants to share their favorite PQ with me, what is the problem? Actually, it's more that you can own your apples (PQs), but not share them with others. And you can show people pictures of your apples (bookmarks) which they can use to order their own apples. Groundspeak is the owner of the PQs and licenses the access to you for your personal use. You just can't get your PQs, slap some caramel on them and pass them out to the kids down the street. I feel so dirty showing others pictures of my apples.

Huh, what was that all about. Anyway, do you get my confusion. I'm just saying if someone wants to share their favorite PQ with me, what is the problem? The problem is that it is a violation of the agreement you made when you became a premium member. The agreement states that you will not share the PQ data with a 3rd party. You can share a BookMark. The someone, if they are a premium member can generate their own PQ from that bookmark. You have not shared the copyrighted information in the PQ. You see if one of the caches in in the PQ is one of my caches, I own the copyright on that information. I have agreed with GS to share the information with you. I have not agreed to allow you to share the information with who ever you choose. That is the problem, you don't own the copyright on the data in the PQ, and neither does GS. As Prime Suspect pointed out, BookMarks are nothing more than a list of caches, there is no copyrighted information in this list because there is no short description, long description, hints, logs and other items. Jim Thanks Jim, I think I understand now. It is OK to identify an bank via a BM and tell a user how to get there via a public route, but just do not go inside with a PQ and rob the place.
