  1. Not really irking me, I just find this log ridiculous. Log: GLXJ0CDG
  2. Okay, I switched the map to Google Road Map, let's check if the link took this into consideration: link Edit: link is still the same, map layer is something what each user needs to change by himself
  3. A little more communication to this case - I would not say it is private easement issue. As per my understanding, minimum distance from railroad is purely regional policy. Each country has slightly different laws & their application, specificaly it is 30 metres in Slovakia as per our legislation. Ref: https://www.geocaching.com/play/guidelines#restrictedareas
  4. Tip: You can bookmark the map in the moment, when you have your most frequent filters applied. The link remains static & saved. You can give it a custom name. This way you can have as many maps bookmarked, as you need. Next time, you can open saved map right away, without need to reapply same filters again. You can also share the link with your map view. But I agree with your point .. there are quite a lot of unecessary clicks to be done to switch to filters panel back & forth.
  5. Thank you for testing and confirmation. For me, it does not matter too much and it's rather good thing. Those who want / need to share EXIF info (i.e for owned mystery cache), they can upload it to 3rd party server.
  6. There's no EXIF information. Miniil is right, it appears to me that Geocaching.com is removing it now during image upload process. I noticed this recently .. for example: This image I uploaded in July 2018, it has EXIF info: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/887a1393-be71-4e2d-a472-057237a06985.jpg This image I uploaded in October 2018, EXIF was removed in the process: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/f193cad1-df29-42e9-a38e-d373957e7b32.jpg Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what appears to be from my testing. Can anyone else test it?
  7. Since there is no dedicated Slovak subforum, I'm opening this thread here - mainly for english speaking visitors of Slovakia. If you have any question regarding geocaching in Slovakia, or need to reach anyone - please, post here, I'm following and will try to answer you. At the moment, there are ~15500 active geocaches in Slovakia and around 3000 - 5000 local geocachers with at least 1 found / month. With these figures, our small country is somewhere around 20th to 25th place in the world. Occasionally, I'll be posting news from Slovakia here. I'd start with fixed link showing Geocaching Map with all events in Slovakia for you to join: link There's one Mega event scheduled for June 2019: https://coord.info/GC7TVTV Another (sport) event with ambition to become Mega will take place in May 2019 in Bratislava: https://coord.info/GC7TVVA I'm looking fwd for you to come & explore Slovakia.
  8. Ahoj, rozmýšľam, že požiadam o vytvorenie samostatného slovenského fóra, keďže nie všetci sú na Facebooku a slovenský web už dávno nefunguje.
  9. This is very helpful and insightful post, thank you.
  10. Quality / or / "excellence" of the cache is not a criteria in the review process - or it should not be. That would not be a justified reason for me. And I think we won't find here any general reason why are some questionable caches published somewhere. All of us see only part of the story here and reviewers are also human. If I'd find any cache problematic, I would log NA, or contact responsible reviewer, or appeal .. or just move on. We all hope for more consistency to play the game fair all around the world.
  11. Short answer - quality of caches is the reason, quality of the game. At least for me. Longer answer: The fact that maintenance is not respected somewhere and by someone does not make guideline obsolete. Maintenance expectations are in guidelines, because responsible owners and maintained caches are good for the game in long run. Once you'll drop this principle, or do not follow regionally, overall quality of the caches & the game itself goes down. I travel a lot and experienced both - locations where caches are maintained & other locations, where issues are not addressed properly. Geocaching feels very different at one place vs. the other. Vacation caches (those with no or fake maintenance plan) have one additional specific - their owners typically does not react at all. If they would archive it once it goes missing - fair play. I don't see this often. Usually they are keeping listings of their missing caches active - ignoring logs, or hoping / asking for community maintenance. Meanwhile, travelling cachers rarely log DNF, because find in exotic country is more precious than at home, where they can return & fix the DNF.
  12. It was essential in 2005 when I started and it is still essential - nothing has changed on this principle as far as I see in official guidelines & caching etiquette. Quote: "Cache owners who do not maintain their existing caches in a timely manner may temporarily or permanently lose the right to list new caches on Geocaching.com." It does not support practice you hinted above. Owners here are still hiding for long and maintaining, in respect with game principles. Repeating pattern of archiving caches instead of maintenance is not acceptable "maintenance plan". I would address it, if it would be prevalent in my area.
  13. Where do you see such assumption? There is only simple assumption - responsibility of cache owner to visit his cache, check logs & do the maintenance when needed. It's essential. If you can't maintain it, don't place it.
  14. That tree is jaw dropping, not only because it is so unique - as it towers above all the other trees around - but as well as for timing of the shot in the right moment of sunset. I don't believe they were just lucky to be there at the right time, I think it should have been carefully planned.
  15. It is very well explained in this Help Center article: 5.5. Can I hide a cache while on vacation? (and in negative examples posted above, which need to be addressed I believe)
  16. Here are results of local voting from 38 GIFF Events in Czechia and Slovakia: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/81402249-15c7-4795-8df2-fba3bbfc0349.jpg And particulary from my own event in Bratislava (3-2-1points): And my personal vote: 1. Geocaching documentary: Winter caching in Finland 2. COMA 3. Finding our family’s lost monument through Geocaching P.S. On Vimeo, I found this interesting film, presumably submission to GIFF 2018 which did not make it to the final 16 (The Power Trail). It would be in my Top 3 for sure. Back to the topic - I was also surprised by strict deadline of official voting and missed it It would make better sense to enable voting not sooner than on Nov 8th and let people vote until few days after Nov 12th, maybe till the end of the week.
  17. I appreciate continuous iteration on making the map better. Feedback: Today I was looking for some future events to attend in my area through map. I noticed that preview of Event does not tell me most important information - DATE WHEN will Event happen. I have to click Description & Hint and scroll to find it out. There's some work to do.
  18. Hello, haven't been around for couple of years .. Is this service dead already? Is there any replacement, useful for quick search of waymarks on mobile? Thank you for response.
  19. That's pretty unique approach, thank you. Most of "community maintainers" are throwing pill bottles with piece of paper when they fail to find cache within 3 minutes, no matter of actual size and D/T. Often replacing disabled, even archived caches with no interest to take responsibility for regular ownership and maintenance.
  20. Please, let me know which of following steps are not working for you. I successfully dropped TB to one of my unpublished testing cache pages. 1. Click to Post Reviewer Note in Admin Tools section 2. Change log type to Write note (but this is not necessary anyway) 3. Write text of log (i.e. "TB drop") and choose the one you'd like to Drop off 4. Submit the log and you'll see trackable dropped on your cache page Apart from first step the same process like before.
  21. Imagine 10kms long multicache on flat terrain, completelly accessible by Wheelchair user. How would I rate terrain? ~2-3 stars Would I label it as Wheelchair accessible? Sure.
  22. I think you can still change log type to Write note from default Reviewer note. Or drop it with Reviewer note, it should work. Please, let me know if not.
  23. Yes, good point. I simplified Handicaching rating system into one sentence. It is usually enough to assess the cache. When in doubts, go into Handicaching for more details, absolutelly agree. Thank you for your remark.
