  1. You have raised very good point. As reviewer, I'm going to do my bit in spreading the word by translation to slovak language and sharing it with our local community AND I will link it to some of my reviewer note templates, especially to those where I welcome new hiders in the game.
  2. I confirm all these bugs.
  3. Edit page .. uncheck it under Final Waypoint.
  4. It is great to have Geocaching Etiquette explained very clearly and quite completely in the single, well structured article. There are more and more players who think it is OK to play the game "their own way", disrespecting basic principles. It's good to have official communication, where we can point them to. Sure, not everything is explained precisely (NA logs are good example), but overall - I'm thankful for this blog post.
  5. Nearly 2 months sounds a bit too long to hold it, unless there is any special reason to do so. Fair timing is to hold it for 2-4 weeks, agree with Lee above me. Sometimes I'm guilty too, thanks for reminder to drop my "inventory" soon.
  6. There is very nice GIFF 2018 movie from Czechia, comparing two caching styles:
  7. I know this topic is repeating time to time, but I appreciate these questions and would love to read simple, comprehensive answers from oldtimers too. 1) I don't really know 2) I THINK - they became too many, too mundane, too difficult to review "WOW" factor as one of the requirements. I THINK there was one cut-off date for stop publishing any more listings. 3) I THINK because they were sustainable as grandfathered cache type. Unlike LL caches, which were increasingly difficult, if not impossible to log by their design. You, as the geocacher had to find and log i.e. sundial anywhere in the world - but! - a new one, which has not been logged before yet! It means you had to go through all the logs to discover, whether "your" sundial was logged before (and you have to find another one) or not (and you are eligible to log it). Simply, LL caches could not sustain any more traffic in their original design. Waymarking is much better platform for them, I think it works very well there, but the site needs much more love from HQ. It's like forgotten orphan
  8. This is good point. I think that owners should be reasonable enough and grant exceptions in the first weeks, or few months after additional photo requirement is added to the cache page. I will certainly add photo requirements to my Earthcache listings, but in case someone will claim he just visited my EC few days or weeks before - I would let such log in. No problem.
  9. Hello Cathy, can owner ask for more photos than 1? I.e. one on each stage of multi-stage Earthcache?
  10. Not always everything, but this kind of first aid, plus some trackables.
  11. Respect. I actually checked, you're saying pure truth. But hey. Imagine profile of new hider in 2004 and new hider in 2019. Do you see the same person? Who could afford GPS receiver in 2004 vs now?
  12. You see .. and plenty of other users are complaining that "they change all the things all the time". This thread is highlighting some very good points about unfinished product. But don''t lose perspective - this is kind of a bubble of unhappy customers. We don't know. Maybe 95% of users ARE happy with new tool. They're not going to come here and express their satisfaction with Search map. Forums are visited mostly by people struggling, or discontented. (Or curious, like me now:) Frankly, this strong criticism has surprised me: Not true. Disclaimer: I'm unhappy too with the Search map: it is slllllowww, missing VITAL leaflet maps, returns only 500 (!) caches in area shows found caches at starting coords, not at solved, real coords etc, etc I provided them this feedback several times. BUT it is still very easy to use old, Browse map instead - just bookmark https://www.geocaching.com/map/ and scroll where you want to go. I'm doing it this way for many years and this service was not eliminated from my toolset. Search map is now as kind of bonus to me, used when looking for special caches - oldest, most FP, rare, by name, by owner, or unfound by group, etc. Maybe you can now better imagine there can be good % of users outside of this "unhappy bubble" and HQ will most likely analyse the general feedback from all the users to allocate their resources for next projects. HQ have tens, maybe hundreds of thousands users - realisticaly it is not possible to satisfy needs of every single one.
  13. Sure, that's why I started with .. .. and spread the fog around my words by saying "typically" and "almost" :) Basically, when I think that CO really have to check his cache, NM log is posted. It does not mean that cache really needs maintenance - it just needs CO's attention. He can react by physical visit of his cache, but he can also decide to give better clues, hint, or react by raising Difficulty rating from 3 stars to 4.5, i.e. There are many options - all depending on circumstances. One reaction is not acceptable for me - deletion of DNF, or NM log .. or request for deletion. It sounds like dishonest behaviour.
  14. It depends on other circumstances (difficulty, hint, photohint), but typically: If I DNF the cache after string of finds, almost never log NM. It is likely that it was me who failed to find it and cache is still there. If I DNF the cache after string of 3-4 other DNFs, I'm almost always posting NM log together with DNF. Because time is up for CO to visit his geocache and check it / replace it. Everything in between depends ..
  15. Some styling in tables are possible, example from my cache below: <table cellpadding="12" style="width:100%; border-top: dashed #02874D 2px; border-bottom: dashed #02874D 2px; text-align: left;"> <tr style="background-color:#F9F7F5;"> <td style="width:25%;"><b>Fyzický stage</b></td> <td> <img src="https://www.geocaching.com/hide/images/map/pin-green-shadow.png" style="float: left; margin: 6px 12px"> Miesto, kam owner umiestnil indíciu, potrebnú pre nájdenie kešky. Napríklad krabičku so súradnicami ďalšieho zastavenia, tabuľku s nápisom, alebo QR kód. </td> </tr> ... How it looks in the listing:
  16. For me, it was good decision to list it as multicache, I do prefer your approach. When travelling I don't have much time for preparation, so typically I filter out Mystery caches from my focus, definitelly difficult ones. I keep Multicaches on my map, because they usually mean that you can go for them and can finish them directly in the field, without homework before the hunt. BTW, this is also the very simple test, which I use as the owner - can it be completed without prior homework, only by reading cache page & following instructions? There are not many high Diff Multicaches, so it is quite likely that I would spot it on the map and try to find it. On the other hand - in case it would be listed as Mystery cache, I'd just filter it out along with all the other difficult Mystery caches. And so I would miss interesting cache. The guideline, explaining difference between Multi & Mystery is spot on and sensible. Sure, some cache designs fall to grey area, where owner can go both ways and decide, or follow regional tradition. That's OK to me.
  17. You are right, hint has to be helpful - or no hint. https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=97&pgid=222
  18. What a sad news. Expressing my sincere condolences.
  19. Interesting, but I realized I can just copy your "rules" and say "me too" .. not from the start, but I get to similar style gradually. Sadly, Waymarking felt down in pecking order of my hobbies in last 2-3 years, but I still follow it & play as time allows. I think idea & structure of this game is great, so I hope it will continue ..
  20. Count me into "micro" camp. I'd expect from "small" cache option to trade at least tiny items there. Here's place for logbook and small pencil only.
  21. Hello, you can check this Help Center article and try few HTML tags, particulary last one (image to cache page). Give it a try at least - it is not that difficult: https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&amp;id=97&amp;pgid=79
  22. That's exactly my thoughts. Thank you for good example. Another one - I own couple of caches, seasonally disabled in order to preserve wildlife (like nesting birds here, or storks here). If anyone logs the cache in that period, it gets deleted (which is mentioned in my disable listing log too), no pardons. (EDIT) Oups, I see similar examples already mentioned above.
  23. It is your cache, you are free to decide to accept or not to accept such FI log. What I would do? It depends on situation - why my cache is disabled, how long, other circumstances etc.
