  1. Hzoi, Simple and perfect idea! I wish I had thought of that simple way to track some places! Thank you, Thompy8
  2. Sorry, but I disagree. What if we were talking about a puzzle cache, and teh second cacher couldn't figure out which cache it was. Would it be OK for him to just take it? Np, we can agree to disagree. If it was taken to be a jerk, then your a jerk. I just don't think the intention was to steal someones stuff. He didnt need to take it to place his cache at that location, he could have just left it in that deep, deep, deep hole. If he thought he was cleaning up left over junk (not to say LB is junk) then isn't that responsible? Linda seems ok with her communicaton with jdumper from what can be seen on this thread, sounds like we are all making something out of nothing. Thompy8
  3. I don't think it is a shameful act to pick up someone elses letterbox that "they think" has been abandoned (CITO?), after the research, Jdumper didn't see it online, picked it up. The letterbox owner did the right thing by posting on this forum to find out what happened. I'm pretty sure Jdumper and the letterbox owner spoke. The letterbox owner seems ok, I think. But that's my personal opinion. I think the letterbox owner and Jdumper were both very responsible here. Thompy8

I didn't have any issues with it at all. I thought I might. Seeing as it was my first coin design, I did forget a few things, on the coin, but the company too care of it. I'm excited to get them in. I'll have them hopefully before our New England Mega event in Pittsfield, MA. Have to start figuring the best way to distribute. I know many people who have started my series and want a few already.

Carmen Sandiego I'm a tech teacher in Massachusetts. I have been working on implementing geocaching into our school activities the past couple of years. I'm in the middle of creating a 39 cache series in Brimfield, Massachusetts and I have decided to create a coin for it. I'm not making the coin to profit from, although the cost does not match the cost to make. I'm thinking about giving the extra coins as rewards to students/families that pick up caching after we do our school events. The coin making process was an interesting process to go through, but the person I worked with was great. I sent out several emails inquiring at first, only 3 responded within a week and only 1 really followed through with my questions. The Monterey Company won my selection. They were more expensive than the other 2, but like I said, it isn't for profit, so as long as I’m not losing money, so be it. I just ordered them! Now, I've patiently entered the waiting game. My question is, maybe I'm doing it now! What is the best way to go about selling these coins to cachers? Normal practices? I've included a picture(hopefully link gets you there). It's a 1.75 inch nickel TB coin. Although I have already approved the coin and I'm very happy with it, comments are appreciated. We are all always learning something or another. Thanks, Thompy8
  8. I have recently, maybe later than most, seen a chirping cache here and there around my area. Curious about this new unkown cache, I looked up a few things. Some things baffled me, but others were intriqing. Is garmin going to allow this ability to Iphones as I believe Droids have the ability (I think)? Are they going to post updates for old Garmin models to get it or only allow the newest models to have it? Will different GPS makers make their own style or will it be mainstreamed and universal to use them? Battery life on chirper? I love the idea of the cache, but is it to early and to much of a pain in the butt right now. The cache postings I've seen have read "Find a gps friend who can chirp". I want to chirp, lol. Thompy8
  9. I have been told it is possible to download more than one cache at a time to the Dakota 10. Is it? I'm not sick of loading caches one at a time, but if their is a more effective way, lol. Plus, I hate when I accidentally miss one cache on a route! Thank you in advance for any knowledge you can throw my way.
  10. I went home and tried to do the updates as well. I was told that it may be the school firewall that was effecting it, but it wasn't.................. A very nice and quick response from Geomate Central was greatly appreciated as we were a little worried. Thank you and I hope the site gets up quickly! Thompy8
  11. I felt like I have written this and tried to explain this to many times, lol.....here goes again...... I have a dakota 10, but I bought a geomate jr for my son to use when we cache. I also am seeing how it works because i'm a school teacher and am thinking about purchasing a few to start caching in our school come the spring. i have tried DL'ing custom caches around our school into the geomate through the website, but everytime I do it, I get a "Flash Programming Failed" response after it says it's working for 5 minutes. I'm computer able and I think I have done all that I can do to try and figure it out. It has loaded on it the Eastern US cache update. I have read this gets taken out when you put in custom caches. i'm wondering if I have to manually delete them before trying to load customs? I can't see a spot to delete them anyhow, lol. I updated software, read all the troubleshooting stuff, I hope I'm just overlooking something very simple. Thank you to anyone who can assist. Happy caching , Thompy8
  12. I'm a Massachusetts cacher. I have two that I'm watching. If it is in the geocaching.com domain, I will continue to search/figur it out. It's just not going well, lol. They are listed as puzzle/unkown caches. Thank you for the point in the right direction. Thompy8
  13. Hello all, This is my first forum post, as my frustration level for this topic is getting as high as a nano in a state forest. I have seen a few town "ground zero" caches and have been wanting to try them. I can't seem to figure out how to get the coordinates for these unknown caches. I have a good idea where they originate, but I can't find any site to verify. Maybe I'm not looking at something that should be obvious to me, or...........Where can I get them or compute them? Any help would be greatly apprciated Thank You, Thompy8
