  1. Big geocaching article in "The Morning News" newspaper. I purchased the paper in Fayetteville, Arkansas. There is a large color photo of a young boy revealing the location of a cache. The paper is dated May 1, 2008. Now I decided that it would be neet to take the same photo with myself included. Of course I need to figure out which cache this is. There looks to be several around the Lake mentioned in the article. I went to the descriptions and was surprised to not find any comments about the article. Well the cache hider should be a "little proud" that their cache made for such a nice photo in the paper.
  2. Well, Thankfully after I posted the above, the validation came through. Wow what security! you now have. All this for geocaching.
  3. Here I am on a geo caching vacation and I have no geocaching access. Man, I don't believe it. They say validation has been sent. E-mail address was corrected. But no validation. What is going on? I can't see anywhere to send an Email to them. I tried calling but they are too busy of course.
  4. Hey, I liked the 6x6 posted by PerfectPair. The question was posed, "Anybody know of any good offroad related caches?" I don't know where you live but I seen an interesting cache that involved a river that was possibly water filled or dry and involved wading in water and the possiblity of snakes. I thought a 6x6 would be the perfect vechile to avoid all the unpleasantries. I would like to ride in one sometime. The cache is: Row versus Wade by Snoogans & The Buck Night Bunch I looked at the cache page again. It says there was a great deal of huge logs and debris. I didn't recall that. Large logs could possibly be a problem even for a 6x6. Oh well, One of these days I want to post a photo of my ultimate geocaching machine. But I haven't decided where I should have my photo placed where it could be linked here.
  5. Remember, We are all potiential terrerists now so even though that type of accuracy will be avalable. We won't be trusted to use it. Exceptions of course for surveyors and business use and the like. I understand that is the way it is now with the current system. I've been told both the militarys equipment and certain proffesional users are allowed to have the most accurate recievers for the current system now.
  6. My questions are not deemed worthy of hearing on this forum. My queston was locked before any one could reply except by email. Well Exxxxcuuussssseeee Me. I thought Geo-caching was all about using a GPS to "find" interesting locations including hiding stuff". I was very interested in the thread that listed the cordinates of the Washington DC area shootings as well as other noteworthy events. THAT THREAD DID NOT GET ABRUBTLY CUT OFF. THANKS ALOT YOUR MAJESTY....... I CANT BELIEVE MY EYES. WOW,
  7. I've always been a little curious where this is located. I am from the east so I dout I could ever look around here. I'm also wondering how the tree fared out over the years. http://www.rainforests.net/inthenews112900.htm
  8. In a related matter, I had been carrying pepper spray on me as I walked to work every day. I had to go past a very aggressive dog. Sure enough one day it was off the leash and came at me. I thought I would see if the stuff really works. The can I had ended up being defective. I had never sprayed or partially used it either. But the nozzle just fell off and a very tiny short stream of the fluid came out just for about 1 second and it quit. Luckily the dog did not finish the attack anyhow. But I was not much of a believer in the stuff after that. I realize that the bear type is probably much stronger and maybe a bigger can. But it would not make me feel too protected.
  9. If you like the narrow 2 track jeep type trails then I too recomend a smaller bike than the 650. I have the KTM 640 and to make a simple U turn on a narrow dirt road you must break loose the rear tire and swing the rear around in a broad slide. With the weight around 350 and the bike extremely tall, this takes some real skill. If you dont do that then you must back the bike up a time or two to get the front end to clear the bank or ditch. But I have another more suitable motorcycle and it is a blast to go geocaching on two wheels.
  10. I am from Michigan. Thank you Firefishe for your excellant wisdom regarding your comments on State Game Areas.
  11. I was near Houston TX looking for GC6BFE I had left the notes behind so I was walking straight through the woods toward the cache. I ran across a homeless vagrant possibly a illegal alien crouched down in a thicket. He was middle aged and fairly close to the cache cordinates. There was some trash there and it appeared it might be where he stays. I had left my wife alone back at the nearby park so I left quickly to find her because I now considered this a dangerous area. The day I was out there was early in the spring before the park has much activity. I never did finish that cache.
  12. I have read before that some here don't like long logs and some do. If you like them long, then I suggest you make that comment on your cache page to encourage the practice. Many would gladly write when they know it would be appreatiated.
  13. I use a laptop and DeLorme also in my CJ-7 and have lots of time on them at work. I wouldn't worry too much about the wear and tear. Mines been running 2 to 8 hours a day for 4 years while driving. I drive a semi. And the pounding will turn the plastic exterior of many things to powder but my compaq 1621 is still ticking ! The big advantage in geocaching for me with the laptop is avoiding the dead end roads in the national forests where I live.
  14. I myself am a truck driver. Today I am in Waco TX. I live in Michigan. I pass many caches frequently all over. There is one right behind the truck stop in Youngstown OH. I dont know about that one you refer to. I just thought I'd give you something to think about.
  15. I wanted to include a photo of mine here like the others did but I cant figure out how to do it.
  16. I strongly believe in many cases there are environmental extremeists removing caches and the word may be getting out among "them" to cover their own areas and remove caches. I personally wish you all would leave the cordinates posted. I like to visit the places anyhow cache or not and the greenie wont stop me by removing the cache. If a problem exists I think you have to just replace it often with a cheap tupperware untill you wear them down.

  18. This is tested and works. Use hydrogen peroxide because it will also cleanse and disinfect somewhat. It will cause the tick to pull out on its own. That is important because its biting parts may continue to contaminate if left in place. It doesn't kill the tick either. You may want to save the tick alive in a pill container to be tested later if you devolop systoms of the disease they carry. I am not sure about the testing part except it seems like common sense thing to do.
