  1. Many thanks, i'll give it a whirl. Regards Tony Jackson
  2. I've only just bought the above unit after only ever using Magellan units. Can anyone tell if there is any way of downloading the hint to my GPS as well as the other info without typing it in manually? Hope this makes sense. Incidently I am using "Easy GPS" for managing my downloads/ wayponts etc. Thanks in advance. Tony Jackson.
  3. Hi, I contracted the so called "Woodbury Rash" in the early eighties when doing my "All Arms Commando Course" in the same area when serving in the Army. From what I remember, myself and fellow course students had lots of cuts and gashes some attributable to the hardship of the course and some to the gorse which was all around. What we noticed was that the said cuts and gashes became infected quickly and took weeks if not months to heal. Whilst not life threatening, the sores were quite painful and not pleasant to look at, especially if you had them on your hands when trying to impress the local young ladies. Thank God i'm now 41 and don't have to impress anyone. Regards Tony(Jacko65)
  4. 40 years old. I use metric, I think its due to using ordnance survey maps when I was in the Army so i've stuck with it.
  5. Nothing Personal directed at anybody in my post or meant. What I meant to say was "If someone is making a little money out of his or her hobby which is also giving enjoyment to other people in the same hobby, then good luck to them!" Why criticise their efforts. If you think you can do better, then just go out and do it. I am glad that someone bothers to make my hobby more enjoyable for me and mine as I have neither the time or inclination to get involved in what it takes to mint and market geo coins. I will continue to buy them even when other people find them tacky and distasteful. Not every body has the same tastes. No offence meant to anybody. Regards Jacko65
  6. If you don't like the coins, don't buy them. Some people need to get a life instead of trying to belittle someone elses efforts. If someone is making money, SO WHAT? get off off your own backsides and make some yourselves instead of slating other people. The trouble with this hobby is that it's begining to get its fair share of people who think your opinions should be the same as theirs, instead of getting out and enjoying the hobby for what it is. I'm buying two coins for my six year old daughter, one to keep(Yes she collects them!!!!!) and the other to set loose into the big wide yonder. Just my ten pence worth ! Feel free to slate me, im big enough and ugly enough to take it, plus you'll be leaving other people alone. Regards Jacko 65
  7. Hi, Can't speak for Garmin, i've never owned one. Magellans SD card expandability is excellent. I've just upgraded from a Meridian Platinum to an Explorist 600. The only reason I upgraded was for the smaller size of the Explorist. My Meridian was very reliable and robust and satellite aquisition was excellent when in tricky environments ie. under tree cover etc. Regards Tony.
  8. Welcome, Welcome. Things will never be the same again. Regards Tony.
  9. Hi, I currently use a Magellan Explorist 600, it's got all the bells and whistles, and admittedly some of them I don't use and probably never will, but it's nice to have the option. I like the colour screen and the SD card expandability, it's small enough to fit in your pocket comfortably and the built in rechargeable battery lasts ages. I owned a Magellan Meridian Platinum before this and had no problems at all with it, apart from the large size I probably would still have it now. In my opinion the Magellan models are well built and reliable (ask the British military! their choice of handheld as well) Reliability being the biggest selling point for me!! I am ex forces and do a lot of navigation in some pretty hairy places as well as my normal geocaching with my 6 yr old daughter at the weekend, who incidently owns a Magellan Explorist 100 and has no problems operating it. I can't comment on Garmin models as I have never owned one. No doubt someone who owns one (and there seem to be a lot of Garmin owners out there) will be able to point out the merits of the various models. I'm not in the business of slating something I have never used just because I own a rival brand, Garmin Gpsr's seem to be very popular so obviously they work. Hope this helps Regards Tony Jackson.
  10. I own: Magellan Explorist 600, Explorist 100, O2 XDA 11i with destinator 3 and bluetooth reciever, Nokia N70 with TomTom 3 Mobile and TomTom bluetooth reciever. My 6 yr old daughter owns a Magellan Explorist 100. Regards Jacko65

  15. Hi, I'm fortunate enough to own an "Explorist 600" which I download my cache CoOrds straight from the Web.(Easy Peasy!) My 6 yr old daughter has been acompanying me recently and has been bitten by the bug. I've ordered an "Explorist 100" for her as her first GPS to let her get used to playing with one etc. Problem is how do you manually enter CoOrds into the GPS? I've looked at the manual online and am none the wiser. a step by step guide would be great but any help will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards. Tony (Jacko65)
  16. Hi, Once again thanks for the replies. Now changed to Lat/Long and WGS84 will keep you posted. I tried the "Spike Island Cache" which is literally yards from my place of work this morning and everything spot on. Kind regards Tony+Sophie.
  17. Many thanks for the replies, I am using OSGB36 and will change to WGS84 forthwith. I'll let you know how I get on. As a grey ex squaddie used to using Ordnance Survey maps and a Silva Compass for navigation i'll have to get used to using a different Datum. Kind regards Tony (and Sophie of course!)
  18. Hi, Wondered if anyone can help. I'm fairly new to Geocaching but not to GPS. I started caching with a Magellan Meridian Platinum no problems, very accurate to within a few feet of a cache usually. I've recently upgraded to a Magellan Explorist 600 and download the Caches directly to the Explorist using the Magellan software that came with the machine. I've used it for three caches and each time I have been between 50-75m out, causing myself and six year old daughter some grief. I was wondering whether there is something I have not set up correctly on the Explorist when setting up originally. Do I need to recalibrate the compass every so often? does the machine need re-initialising? When looking at the Ordnance Survey Grid Reference on the cluesheet and on the GPS when standing over a cache they match exactly so no problems there. The GPS is set for Magnetic North, and course up. Hope someone can help. Am I expecting too much from my GPS? I don't think so as my Meridian Platinum was excellent. Kind Regards Tony Jackson.
