  1. Unfortunately, it wasn't with OS Map, but using Google Earth. And, yes, the containers were mostly chinese takeaway containers and the like. FWIW - I have an iPhone, along with an eTrex and I have found caches with both. My last find (two in fact, my only finds during June! ) was a park and grab with the iPhone in Croydon, great 3G signal and when I parked the van, sorted the Geocaching app and waited for it to "settle", I had just 156 accuracy showing. I had to use the clue to locate the cache as when I looked, the pointer was sending me 600 feet in a direction that was out of the car park and into waste land. Stood at the cache the iPhone told me I was over 650 away according to the iPhone. It's great for a park and go, but I would never use it for serious caching and there is no way on god's concrete covered earth that I would use the iPhone to "grab" coordinates when hiding a cache. Heck, I even worry about the coordinates I post from the eTrex using a similar method to Pharisee.

  3. Well, it took me a few attempts, but I got there in the end! I think a tutorial is definitely required, took me 20 minutes to figure it out, even with the link from that old thread. I had to tell the system the maps were there before I could tick them too. Thankyou!
  4. :D Having looked at my profile, I realised that I don't have a Counties map in my stats, just the countries. Guss I'll have to go figure that out now too! I love the stats that the GSAK Gen puts out though, especially the centroid as you mentioned and the log lengths. I might figure out the counties ap and then write a tute for the macro anyway, we can't be the only ones that have struggled with it - took me a couple of hours to sort when I decided to switch from cachestats.
  5. I have to admit that I used Cachestats and liked it, I tried the GSAK macro and I much prefer the stats it produces! To use it: 1. Install the Macro to GSAK from http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry107726 by following the instructions on the GSAK website. There's a word document here: http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=2515 that will help with installing the Macro. 2. Grab your MyFinds.gpx and import it to GSAK. I tend to use a new database for this. 3. Go To Macro > Run/Manage and choose the Macro and hit run. The first time you run it, just let it go and see the results. You can re-run the macro and look at the customisation options. When you're happy with the output, the Macro (when you run it) automatically copies all the required code to your clipboard and you can put it on your profile just by editing it and right click - paste. If this makes no sense, let me know and I will try and write a tutorial proper with piccies.
  6. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=223476 The forum topic on GC Vote and I believe there is also the website at www.gcvote.com
  7. I would like to put forward a reasonable nano cache series from the South Coast. They are called Urban Guerillas and they are exactly (in my humble opinion!) what you should expect from a nano hidden in a high muggle area - they are exactly what they are - a quick escape for those out shopping. They pretend to be nothing more. The difference? These cache pages are well written, have very accurate coordinates and all follow a very similar theme. Urban Guerilla 1 - http://coord.info/gc179QZ In this area I have, unfortunately, been spoiled by some excellent series walks in local countryside and have very little interest in running out for the FTF in an urban environment. Certainly the recent caches that the OP has mentioned really leave me cold, hence only actually getting out to find 1 cache in this month. EDIT: Of course, the caches published recently have gone straight on my ignore list and will stay there until I really am that bored or just happen to be in the area. Whilst it may seem elitist, I cannot disagree that the well written cache page draws me much more (even urban micros) than the ones that write "one for the numbers" and "please can you check GPS coords" right in the (badly spelled and grammar lacking) cache page. I wonder if we get petition GS to add a tick box to the listing page that says "THESE COORDS HAVE NOT BEEN GATHERED USING AN IPHONE"!?
  8. Yep, once you submit for review, it "reserves" the 0.1 mile radius. Of course, as you have discovered this is dependent on proximity. GC167M6 seems to be queued. Going by the GC Code I would guess that it's a cache that was created and then never sent for review by the creator, for whatever reason. Have a chat with one of the reviewers (the one that asked you to move your cache?) and they might be able to give you more info. Don't forget to include all the GC numbers!
  9. Yep new reviewer. Read this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=252602
  10. Knowing that the British have a reputation for not working as fast as our colonial cousins: 24?
  11. hmm. Selling end points for mutis and mysteries with guarantee they are right. Wonder what their gc.com user id is. Trying to think of a decent reason to give o ebay to report the listing. Oh, and the GC Example they give is a trad that was adopted by Dorsetgal...
  12. I realise that was a great clue, I have no real idea. I was thinking along the same lines as rob.marsh with plastic surgery though, so Something to do with implants?
  13. Niiiice! Just found a great pic that I might just have to get a tattoo from: http://twitpic.com/1v2wa7 Wow, way to drag this off-topic!
  14. Hahah! They're only chef's trousers! You can pick 'em up on the bay for about a tenner. tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim (sorry, lost count) - 50 per month, I had assumed meant that you get 50mb per month for your uploads. As the current cast is (as you say) about 18 mb, 50mb should be fine. I encoded show 1 at 128 bps (kbps? Can't remember) so can always drop that a little, hopefully without compromising quality.
  15. Many thanks for the offer! the problem is an ongoing one that the host is having with the server, rather than anything I did! I am intending, towards the end of June, to sign up with Libsyn who provide podcast hosting for $5 a month. This means that I will not need to worry about bandwidth at all. Unless the podcast gets REALLY popular! To answer the question, no, the podcast is not uploaded to iTunes. It is just another listing directory with the extra ability for users to sync directly to their devices.
  16. For those that want the iTunes link, it's just (10 minutes ago) been published: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore...st?id=376512842 They reckon it will take a couple of days to be searchable but that link should work now. I will add it to the website momentarily. Again, thanks for all the support folks!
  17. DING! - hey that was fast! You are quite correct, it is indeed 28. Most clocks that use roman numerals use IIII instead of IV to avoid confusion with 6 (VI) - never been a problem for me though.
  18. Hehe: How many individual characters are on the bezel of a clock when the numbers are written in roman numerals?
  19. Crap! Hang on while I dig into the questions I wrote for last Saturday...
  20. Sorry Paul, had a problem with the server the website's hosted on crashed about 5 minutes after I posted the link. As you've found it's up again now. Hope you like!
  21. In the continuing absence of norsch, can I suggest that someone else asks a question to keep the thread moving?
  22. Thank you so much folks! It's really good to know that people are enjoying the podcast! SP and HH - I don't know what happened - I suspect I was just typing too fast! I will correct that minor error in a moment or two. SP - Direct Download link is http://www.ukgcpodcast.com/pc/show1.mp3 (right click and "save as" - approx 17.5mb) - I'm not going to put this link anywhere other than here or the scrapers will rape my bandwidth. This is a temporary location until Libsyn get back to me with how to register and I can put future shows on a different website. I can then put a link to the download straight in the show notes. *mouse* - took me a moment to realise that you meant Breakfast On The Ben! Yeah, would love to have attended that, but as I said in the show, I go on camp on the Friday with Scouts so won't be able to get to the event at all. I've had a couple of people email me (thanks guys - will get back to you shortly!) with ideas for regular feature sections for the show so keep an eye on the website.
  23. I realise that this may have been discussed previously but all searches come back with the BSA Scouting Merit Badge. Have any of you UK Scouters attempted the GPS Navigation/Geocaching segment of the Navigator Badge with your young people (oh how I hate that phrase!)? For info - the requirements were released in November 2008 (some 18 months before BSA) and, while it's not a badge in its own right, the Geocaching section (visible here https://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/586 - Alternative D) can help the Scout achieve the badge. I have some opinions on this but would like to hear others' opinions too: Is the guidance specific/loose enough? Have you run this with/for Scouts? If you did, how did you get on? Did/do you have concerns about the badge requirements? TIA! Collin
