  1. Martybartfast is quite right, the eTrex H is fine for multi-downloads. As you're not yet a premium member you will only be able to send one cache at a time to the unit. With GSAK and a pocket query (PM only benefit) you will be able to send multiple caches to the unit at once.
  2. In defence of the mega, it's actually some great walking in beautiful countryside (if you can ignore RAF Odiham!) Fairly easy to do in segments if you don't want to do the lot at once.
  3. Ordered mine the same day Seeker was published. It arrived within 2 days. Great book, not read it all yet. Sorry, writing show notes for the podcast, hence short sentences...
  4. Welcome to the obsession! Be warned, once you're in you can never escape... There's a good comparison of the two units on the Garmin website: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=145&compareProduct=30926&compareProduct=30925 Essentially (in no particular order): 1. The 20 has a memory card slot. This allows for storage of more cache information. The onboard memory holds 1000 points 2. The 20 has an electronic compass. This helps with directional accuracy of the unit. 3. Barometric altimeter - not sure if this is really any use in an every day situation. Depending on your budget I would recommend going for the 20, just because of points 1 and 2. You'll find that if you travel lots or want to hold lots of cache information the extra memory in the 20 will help lots. West Norfolk is a great place to cache and there's a healthy community for caching events up there too. Hope this helps! Collin
  5. Welcome! Glad you found us. There are much much cheaper ones than that, the basic Garmin Trex H can be had for around £50 or less. I would check the well known auction site as there's always cheap GPS units on there too. Dependent on the area you're in I am sure that a friendly cacher would be more than happy to show you the ropes. Do you have a smartphone? The Geocaching App has a free version on iPhone if you're that way inclined too. Let us know how you get on! All the best Collin
  6. Here's a thread from back in 2008 that may well work for you. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=183327 No extra software, just uses Excel and Outlook. I am sure that you could just use Excel to edit the GPX file to only keep the pertinent information and then view that on the Blackberry.
  7. Seen it three times now. Nerdy? Moi? No! Love that he's making a point of getting landowner permission before hiding. Wonder if that will sink in with cachers...
  8. How much do you value the Grease Monkey scripts? If you can, give Chrome a whirl. I use it everywhere I can. So much nicer than IE and quicker than FF.
  9. Visited two with mine yesterday with no problem. I'm using Chrome though.
  10. That's kind of annoying. It's the best thing about the new maps. I note that the "guide" still mentions them:
  11. I also run separate databases. I am a computer engineer, but not a programmer. I have one db for my local unfound caches and a second for the MyFinds PQ. With the finds DB it means that I have to set no filters, no searches or anything and I can just click the findstatsgen macro to generate the statistics. My local unfound DB only holds around 500 caches which I then filter to only show available caches. This is because my GPS only has 500 POI memory (eTrex Venture HC). THis normally brings me down to around 490 which fits. I also turn off the child points when sending to the GPS. If I am going somewhere then I will run a separate PQ for that area, import it into a separate DB specifically for the location and filter as above for the GPS. Simple, but it works for me.
  12. I picked up 5 of the 200ml clip locks like that above this evening. 70p each. Oh, and 10 notebooks for 13p each. There's no reason to use a film pot!
  13. I know I am bumping my own thread but I am looking for more answers to the question of the month: What do you HATE about Geocaching? I've had some interesting answers so far, a couple of rants and a few one liners. It can be anything, a touchy subject or your pet hate. Get featured on the show - send me your caching hates to ukgcpodcast@gmail.com Of course, if you want to record your answer and email me the sound file (in any format!) that is more than welcome! Don't worry about quality, just record it and as long as we can hear your voice I'll put it in the show. Also looking for shouts, milestones, questions, answers, stories in audio or text format. January's competition is for a fabulous GAGB Geocoin, all you have to do is answer a very simple question! Look forward to hearing from you! Collin
  14. Is it just me or is it broke right now? All I get on coordinates is the broken image icon.
  15. Just thought I'd let you all know that I released show 5 of the podcast yesterday. I hope that you are finding useful information and I am always looking for more subjects to cover if you'd like to get in touch. Feedback on the show, good, bad other, but most importantly constructive is always appreciated http://www.ukgcpodcast.com/2011/01/03/show-5-the-one-with-the-yeti/ There's an easy competition for a GAGB Geocoin, a question of the month and if you're feeling so inclined a poll in the right hand menu. Collin
  16. Folks - who are you both using for your email? I am using gmail and am receiving lots of email from GS.
  17. I have a can of worms, do you have a can opener? Oh, wait, you already opened it! iPhone 3G by any chance? It's all very well saying "if you get an iPhone4" but what do you do if you can't afford one? Yes, I have the 3G, yes it sucks most of the time for caching. I can get it to work for the odd cache when I have the opportunity, but rely much more on my eTrex for nav and use the GC App for paperless. Anyone got any suggestions for an iPhone version of cachemate or similar that doesn't take 20 minutes to open a DB of 1000 caches when I press the wrong button?
  18. 1. To produce 12 podcasts. This really is more difficult than it sounds! 2. One cache a day. I started on 25-12-2010 and intend to go to at least 24-12-2011, hopefully further. 3. Get a new GPS. My Etrex Legend HC is great but I hate having to carry that and another device for paperless. 4. Be more honest in my logs. If I dislike a find, say so, tactfully of course! 5. Find a cache in a different country. The Isle Of Wight does not count, despite what the IBMers might say! 6. Get a 5/5 D/T.
  19. It's not the iPhone app, I think it's Geocache Navigator or similar. Yes, it gets on my nerves, yes they can write something in the box, yes they are just too damned lazy.
  20. Read all the information on that cache, it's full of warnings about the dangers, it's a five five and a three stage (I think) cache and if I was in the US I would certainly be planning how to safely grab that cache! Even went so far as to find some others to fly over with me just to grab the cache and fly home again!
  21. Thanks for your continued support folks it's much appreciated! For information the latest edition is now available at http://www.ukgcpodcast.com/2010/09/04/show...eeeere-baaaack/ It's not appeared on iTunes yet but should do so soon. I hope! EDIT - Just checked, it's on iTunes too now!
  22. No, it hasn't died. Had a few personal issues to deal with that meant I was unable to record the podcast for August. Please accept my humblest apologies. Have a look at the website at www.ukgcpodcast.com which will explainmore. Colln
  23. Would that be Capt'n Simply's Pirate Booty http://coord.info/GC18X8Y ? What fab looking cache! Unfortunately I am not around to be able to set a new question, so, If I am right I will return the honour to someone else to set a new question.
