  1. I am unable to load caches onto my Oregon450 using the "Send to GPS" button. I have always used this to load caches onto my device and now it doesn't seem to be working. I have updated the plug in and from the garmin site it detects my device. Any suggestions for how to load caches onto my device? I am leaving early tomorrow and won't have computer or internet access after tonight. Thanks for any quick help that anyone can give.
  2. I got an Oregon 450 for Christmas and am somewhat frustrated. The unit comes with one map that does not have streets on it, only major highways. Being somewhat tech savvy I thought I would download a free map from GPSFileDepot (I think that is what it is called). I found the map I thought I wanted and went through all the hoops to put it on my Oregon 450 only to realize it was not exactly what I wanted. After a very frustrating experience I was able to remove it from my device and decided to pay the $80 USD to buy a map from Garmin hoping this would be much easier. Now as I am trying to load the thing onto my device I get a message saying I don't have enough memory. How much memory comes on the device? How big of a card do I need to use a map? GRRRRRR
  3. I cache using an iPhone 3G and the Groundspeak app. It is all I have ever used and have been very successful with it. I do live in an area that has 3G coverage so that may account for my success. However, the downside is that it uses a lot of battery because it is constantly updating the position. The 3G does not have a built in compass like the iPhone 4 so that may account for the battery life issues. I just got a iPhone 4 this week but haven't had the opportunity to cache with it. I do not have a GPS device of any kind so I cannot comment on that.
  4. I have done some of both. Where I live I have hiked through waist high weeds and brush and then one mile away there was one on the sidewalk. So I guess I am looking for the all purpose bag for city and woods.
  5. I have been caching for just over a month and have decided it is time for me to put together a bag that has all the necessities for caching. What do you keep in you bag. Please don't say firearms because I don't carry them. What are some of the most useful things you keep in your bag other than your Palm or GPS device? I live in NE Oklahoma, if that helps. Thanks!
  6. I have an iPhone 3G and have been successfully caching with it since 7/27/10. I started with the free Groundspeak app and liked it so much I bought the real thing. I have only logged 24 caches so far. Of those 8 were did not finds. Of those 8, it turns out 6 had been muggled and one was a micro that took me two tries. I have not had much success using the compass portion of this app, because when I get close (20 ft or less from the cache) it starts spinning around. If I keep it on the main navigation screen and use the distance info on the top right I am led up to the cache. I think the biggest thing about using the 3G is that you cannot be in a huge hurry because of the need to update. However, if I just walk at a normal pace in a straight line it will update fast enough to lead me to the right place. I have not had success with GPS apps like MotionX or others available at the app store. The only downside to using the Groudnspeak app is that it is a bit of a battery hog. That being said, the $10 investment for that app has totally been worth it. It has worked well for me as a novice geocacher.
  7. There are 135 within a 10 mile radius of my home in Claremore OK
  8. It is a tracking code. Go to the Geocaching website and click on trackables on the left side and enter the code.
