  1. I like this idea - it would help prevented one particular category being inundated with churches and help break things down a bit to the sorts and types of churches people maybe specifically interested in. It's kind of similar to the Historic markers categories - those interested in establishing them according to province, state or country rather than a general mish-mash. I would be happy to help establish one or two of these as well church categories as well.
  2. I've got a talking GPS unit - it's a model 75 W.I.F.E - it's excellant at telling me where and when to go and how to get there! Also has excellant receiving capabilities as well - whatever i get she receives and it has all sorts of buttons you can push as well. Can be fairly high maintanence though. if you want one just click on this link: http://russian-brides-club.net/
  3. Good advise - as you learn more about the one you have which is as good as any , you'll soon learn if you want to step up or stay put with it.
  4. LOL - Radical Dude! I've thought it but I wouldn't have said it!
  5. This line of discussion has actually been hammered out in the past in regards to Waymarking being implied more internationally but I can't find the thread - which is maybe a good thing because as I remember the content of the thread just went round in circles with some fairly unusual suggestions and implications being made. I seem to recall that it started with the suggestion that Waymarking was 'To American' basically and then it just snowballed from there. In anycase I wouldn't see the need for that type of thread to be rehashed over again but that being said I do agree with the initial below quote: And in all fairness I think for the most part Groundspeak have tended to be fairly Global - it's just a matter of people who suggest categories and are given right to create them to think of maybe how it can be made or how it can imply places or categories from around the world. I mean I lead the Inukshuks category and Inukshuks are primarily an Inuit/Canadian/Arctic symbol. But when I listed the criteria for placing a waymark I stated and was aware that these statues can be found in lesser numbers all over the place due to a fairly recent rekindling of interest internationally of Native North American culture. Besides I would think you would get a whole lot more submissions and interest in a category if it was international which I tried to do and which in fact it did. In conclusion: Global is good!
  6. mmm! I do tend to agree with that line of thinking in this scenario.
  7. I was wondering about what is going to happen if various waymark categories (of which there seems to still be quite a few) are not changed over from the old system of individual management to group management. What is going to happen to those categories? There are still quite a few yet to be done and therefore does that mean that on the 1st June or whenever it was , that they will be scraped or will Groundspeak open them up for whoever would like to lead and form a team for those particular categories. It would be a shame to see some of them dissappear just because an individual didn't pull their finger out and move to the new system, and lots of people have made good contirbutions to some of those categories that as yet have not been changed - including one or 2 of my own. I wonder Nate if you could let us in on what Groundspeaks thoughts are regarding the deadline and beyond with those categories.
  8. I found this on gps.org.nz Forums - where a comparison was done between the two units over a period of a month and made for interesting reading. Go here for a look at that study: http://patrick-roeder.de/reviews/garmin_gpsmap_60CSx.htm
  9. I don't have 5 categorys myself but 5 certainly seems better than 3 - which I did think was just a bit miserly. Good move Groundspeak!
  10. I'm in the dark here - what was the problems wih Lithiums in the 60csx?
  11. Maybe this topic has been done already but I am kind of interested to know what sort of battery life poeple are getting. The variables for this are of course the type of battery as well as the type of GPS unit and in what way was it used. For example: I put new Lithium batteries in my Garmin 60cs and have gotten nearly 45 hrs of navigation time with some intermittent useage of the backlight (possibly about 5mins total) most of the time at reasonable room temperature [it was travelling in the car from Saskatchewan to British Columbia around British Columbia and then back to Saskatchewan as well as some outside useage for geocaches during the whole trip. Add to that another 1 hr of GPS useage (with the GPS off), of inside use and only now is the battery indicator 'starting' to drop. I thought that was doing pretty good actually and I know that even with new Lithiums I certainly don't get that sort of mileage out of my Etrex Venture GPS unit - but I am not sure of my total hours on that one. How do other units fare?
  12. on your group profile page just make sure your enrollment is enabled and then post in the forums that such and such a category is open for enrollment. People will come!
  13. I think this is a very good idea. I would 2nd this request.
  14. I certainly like the idea of a chat site but do agree with Black Dog as well. Once the majority come to grips with the whole thing a bit more then it seems a fairly fesible idea. But even then - it may take away from the Forums a bit. (Chasing my tail on this idea)
  15. Hmmm must try that as being a bit of a Fumbler through new systems - it may actually help me pick up on the thing a bit easier.
  16. I live in canada so therefore snow is just a given, but I usually list in the description of my caches that access may or may not be an issue with snow but I wouldn't advocate making them inactive as there is just nothing more exhilarating than tunnelling around in 60 - 90 cm of snow at -20*c looking for tupperware. It's what defines a man and a dedicated Cacher
  17. Is it just me or do the links just take you back to the directory as oppossed to the group?
  18. The open enrollment option is on - is there something else I need to have done or been doing?
  19. Looking for an officer or 2 for the Shipwrecks category if anyone is interested.
  20. Looking for and Officer or 2 for the Inukshuks category.
  21. So is there anyway to see what groups already exist and what they have called themselves and what their mission statements are - I'm not a plagiarist, I just want to see how others have done this thing and what sort of things they have said so that i can kick start some ideas as at the moment I am not sure what key to type first. And where do you find out whos posting for officers?
  22. I'm a bit lost on this issue - if we are to have groups managing a category then: * How do you muster up other people to be part of that group? * How many is the minimum managers for a group? * Will this facilitate category proposals being more easily created as so far the better half of the proposals don't go further than the forums! * Where and how do I create this group when i do find other interested parties? Appreciate your help in explaining this to me.
