  1. I must admit this question is something I to have been mulling over as I have been given managment of a couple of categories that were abandoned and one in particular has several waymarks that did not even meet the previous owners criteria but he had approved them in any case. So where do I stand in regards to being able to remove a couple of these types of waymarks? The approve/deny option is listed for me to do it but I am figuring someone is going to get their nose out of joint if I do!
  2. This kind of happened to me when I signed up to a number of categories and as happenstance would have it I was Officer 1 until Adopt Me dropped out and made me leader and I could see I was fast-tracking toward exceeding the limit. What I did on a couple of the categories that held my interest but not my heart was once they got established I offered the leadership role to the next officer down - as chances are (with some of them at least) that the category may mean MORE to them as it does for you. If they wanted it I just demoted myself - this is what happened with Fishing Holes as the next guy down obviously had some good ideas and intentions for the category and as much as I has some vested interest in Fishing Holes - I didn't think it was going to be detrimental to it to hand it down and then I played 2nd fiddle - which I was happy to do. That has been my solution to staying under the legal limit!!
  3. I am not sure how Scenic Hikes differs from what you are proposing here really. The stipulation of scenic hikes is that it must be a minimim of 1 mile long - it has no restriction as to the maximum length - in fact once this category (Scenic Hikes) gets re-established and if I am leading it I did plan on actually adding some wording to it's description to encourage those hikes, tracks and trails that do take considerably longer and that have back-country huts as well - such as those trails that i have listed in the Back Country Huts category. But I do think the provision is already there for those types of tracks etc. Maybe I am missing the point of what your trying to establish (tell me if I am) but I kind of see this as reinventing the wheel a little - correct me if I am wrong. Incidently, Aushiker - thank you for signing in to support the Scenic Hikes category, I only hope we get a few more to get this up and going. Cheers Gerard
  4. I got to admit - that very question was on my mind as well - as there seems to be a heap of categories up for adoption huh!
  5. So forgive me if I didn't read this in previous posts but how does somebody become the leader of a category - I have signed up to support a few categories as an officer but have an intrest in only leading one or 2 in particular - am I reading it correctly when it says that after 3 officers step forward the "Adopt Me" quits - then does that make Officer 1 the leader or how does that work?
  6. Groundspeaks focus on Waymarking at the moment is on making Waymarks - not finding them! That focus will change later when the database of waymarks created is more substantial I believe.
  7. Actually I thought it all made good sense - couldn't have said it better myself!
  8. I'm of the thinking that this idea has been done already in the earlier days of Waymarking - I'm quite sure it was brought up! But as Chapterhouse stated - and I believe he is correct - the idea was left to die with the thinking that it is not conducive to a family recreation - which is where Waymarking wants to stay. I believe this subject was beaten to death during suggestions of Strip Clubs and Marijuana Plots as well - someone could correct me if I am wrong. My own thought is to leave these ideas in the grave as well.
  9. Sounds absolutely awful - I would suggest you go here for help: http://phonecounselor.net/depression/
  10. You only have to read the logs specific to it's cache to see if it was that much of an issue to find or not. Besides it isn't really meant to be a pushover - a little bit of a challenge is half the fun. And yes there will be some you don't find. If you haven't the patience for it then then stick to your playstation!
  11. The Fortrex 101's need bigger wrist straps!
  12. Ditto - this same thing happened to me and I ended up doing what Bruce did and it worked out!
  13. I agree - it's ugly and pretty tacky. Admittedly i was a bit of an advocate of this myself initially but now it just seems amatuerish to me and wouldn't make it a prerequisite of any logging or posting. But certainly it seems others are not of the same mind. I do see some merit of having to place a picture of yourself in some pictures - but not necessarily with a GPS in hand either and not in all pictures . Some pics are spoiled also by having people in them whereas there can be more value in a picture of the subject without human interference. There you go - my 2c worth.
  14. Nope - that has answered my question - I didn't know the new max was 500. And after 500 I didn't know that you viewed it as a keyword or specific search. Thanks for that!
  15. Garmin 60cs - mine Garmin Foretrex 101 - mine Etrex Venture - wifes Garmin Forerunner 101 - wifes
  16. What happens to waymarks when the category max's out with waymark submissions - are they still able to be viewed ? What happens to them after the category tips over 200. Unsure!
  17. Excellant idea - I'm surprised this hasn't been presented sooner. I wish I had thought of it myself!
  18. Ditto! Unashamedly I do this as well - saves on buying more batteries and more electronic gear to have to be mindful of.
  19. I'm starting to loose the train of thought of where this category suggestion is going actually! Yes I am supporting a churches category. I thought to possibly break it down a bit it could be churches by denomination - it shouldn't create to many but it would create enough so as not to overload a single category. I'm a bit lost with the Waymarking churches and cross breeding geocaches into them though. I take it that what is being suggested is using waymarks as clues to multicaches - I think this is the suggestion if I am reading it right. And if I am correct in my interpretation of this thread - you are suggesting also a separate category for Geocaches of this nature, or, was it waymarks that have geocaches incorporated into them - I'm not sure if thats the thought here but it is what I gather. In any case - if this was the suggestion then I guess it could be done but I am not sure if Groundspeak have thought about moving in this direction as yet. I tend to think that they are trying to establish waymarks purely as waymarks and thats it. I also have the impression that Groundspeak are wanting waymarks to be established at this stage as oppossed to being an activity to which established waymarks are something which you go and find. Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I'm also guessing that later on when the data base for waymarks has grown somewhat - it may be then a more fesible activity to go find them - but for now it is focused on establishment of them.
