  1. That really is NOT cool. This should be reported to GS, as obviously it's not a mistake or an isolated one time mistake.
  2. He/she saw the coin before it was activated I assume, so it was virtual at the point it was logged, because it wasn't active when he saw it.....
  3. I take it he didn't go to the cache? No, virtual logging of any kind is not ok, if that's what it really is, that's just dumb.
  4. No, it's not. But there are quite a few people who are of the opinion that because my personal coin is not a trackable that it is also not a geocoin. Whatever... Pffft... What you have is a "true" geocoin, all the rest are geotrackables! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
  5. Just as long as I can call the spare br/floor/futon! (And don't say it, you're gonna make me cry... ) I'll share a futon with you. Joani never reads the forums anymore so I'm sure I won't get in trouble for saying that... oh, wait, Kealia probably does and he's bigger than me... never mind. --Marky Ok, but I kick!
  6. Just as long as I can call the spare br/floor/futon! (And don't say it, you're gonna make me cry... )
  7. nm, the whole stolen property thing and posession has been talked about already, didn't read down far enough!
  8. If you don't know for a fact that the seller is the owner of the coin, then you shouldn't be buying it. There are a lot of people, unfortunately, who just have to have the coin, and know full well that what they are buying is stolen. If you're buying on eBay, you don't alway know if the owner is the same person selling the coin. I see avroair has the same account on both sites so you know who he is but I have no idea about the other folks. That is why I stay away from all activated coins on eBay. If I know the person I may bid but otherwise, I have no idea if the coin was taken from a cache and being sold or if it's legit so I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.
  9. Eric, that goes back to the how are coins depicting bottles of Vodka not promoting alcohol? Just like so many are trying to ban alcohol related commercials on TV(mind you, I don't agree. I'm a parent and it's my responsibility to handle this, but like you said, people are quick to blame.) You (general) can't pick and choose what cause or issue you take up, they all (drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, racism) fit into this category and that's my point...
  10. I completely agree, but where does that leave things like the swastika, where as we saw, for so many automatically trigger thoughts of hate and violence, or the confederate flag (which has been removed as an avatar btw) which flies proudly still in so many areas. It seems to me that unless it is so cut and dry like "die (insert group here)" or something of that sort, that pretty much everything else is in a grey area and therefore should be allowed. I just don't like the subjectiveness of it, the fact that one person is deeming what is or isn't socially acceptable for a group of international diversity that is so varied. Agreed.
  11. If anyone wants to leave little bottle (plastic of course) of Patron or Capt. Morgans Coconut Rum in caches for me to find I would be just fine with that (Please, Please!)
  12. I think it's a big no no, it belongs to the owner, and only that person has the right to sell it. I also think that the people buying it are just as guilty as those selling it, they're buying stolen property and that is just wrong. Edit to add-Always report it to ebay!
  13. A coin is supposed to have something to do with Geocaching?
  14. Man/sheep, did ya really have to go there LFD?! LOL I found a pathtag this wknd that was very blatantly gay (no hidden message at all), I'm from Cali, where it's a non issue, but I did have to wonder after this thread started how it would be seen if it were a trackable coin, as there are many parts of the country/world that are not so open to all walks of life.
  15. I think what it boils down to for me is that all of this stuff-sex, drugs, guns, and even religion are personal matters, and when GS puts a tracking # on it they are at some level endorsing it. Make it a personal sig item (read non trackable) and you have the right to do whatever you want. As a game I think they should stay out of it and just keep it simple. Yes, I know, this would mean a serious hit for them in terms of tracking numbers and thus it'll never happen, but it's how I see it.
  16. That is along the lines of what I was rambling about in an earlier post. Do we have a responsibility to be sensitive to the many other cultures that play this game, or because it is an American based Co. should this not be a concern? (yes, I know it's really not up to us, but for the sake of interesting conversation in here and something other than a cointest!)
  17. Not true at all, that's just a different subject, one of which I thought people had been quite vocal about in another thread.
  18. Tschakko, you bring up a good point, while one thing is ok in America, another may be in Germany or somewhere else. Likewise things ok here, may not be ok somewhere else. Are there caches/cachers in countries where women uncovered at all may be highly offensive? I don't know, don't know if it matters, or is more an issue of you can't please everyone. How do you make something family friendly when you're dealing with so many cultures? Sorry, bunch of questions with no answers! It certainly brings up a new dynamic.
  19. Alright, perhaps a new fresh thread more focused will help. The question is what standards do you think are appropriate and what is not? Or if it's anything goes that's ok too. Please understand, we all know we don't make the decisions, but it would be interesting to know. Please do not bring up any specific coins for examples.
  20. I'm going to attempt to start a new thread and hopefully it can stay on topic, MODS, please close this thread at your convenience. Mahalo.
  21. I was thinking the same thing this morning, but do you think it would stay any more on topic? Hula: I believe your do have a legitimate question and concerns. In my opinion maybe this thread should be shut down since it has gone so far off topic. Maybe you could start a new thread with that subject. "What standards should there be for geocoins" Just a smiley face to say this a friendly suggestions. A lot of times in e-mails and forums comments can be read in ways they aren't typed if that makes sense.
  22. Please, don't read it the wrong way, it is most certainly not what I think family friendly is that is in question for me. I am of the camp that I will parent my own child and don't need any company, be it GS, Disney or Playboy to do it for me, nor should I expect them to. Because I started this thread people assume that I want there to be stricter guidelines, I don't. With my line of work there is nothing I haven't seen, and really not much that offends me. That is not it at all, so please don't assume that I am pushing my values because you don't even know what they are. I have seen one "anything goes", one "it's GS's decision, so whatever they approve", a number of "this crossed the line", thank you.
  23. I understand that Eric, my question is what people here think the standards Should be. I wish I and others could post coins that haven't gotten approved, but we can't, so there you go. Advertising was a side effect, unfortunately, especially being that I haven't actually seen too many really state what they think crosses the line. I've tried to read between the lines but that's dangerous to do. So, where do you think the line should be drawn?
