  1. I can do some in Virginia, and possibly west virginia, maryland, and DC! feel free to send me an e-mail with more details!
  2. today was AWESOME! just moved back into my dorm, checked my mail, and recieved 2 geocoins that someone from the neterlands gave me for free because they saw that i was new! if you're reading this, thank you!!! I'll be sending you a thank you card shortly! the best part is when they contacted me, the information they gave me led me to believe i would only be getting one coin, but they sent me two!
  3. sweet! thanks for your help! although right now i won't have a whole lot of time to teach myself how to use illustrator, as i'm moving back to school tomorrow and i'm gunna be taking 18 credit hours!
  4. i kinda like it! a few things though what is that surface? instead of "Humanist Geocoin" what if it just said "Humanism" how about on the back if it just had the quote, without the humanist symbol? that would give it more room for the font to be bigger, don't you think? could you also add room for the usual geocaching stuff, i.e. "trackable on geocaching.com" and room for a code? sorry i can't be of much help. i just tried using adobe illustrator and had no idea what i was doing and i was not getting anywhere
  5. oh no i completely understand I've got quite a few friends (including my best friend) who have very thoroughly questioned their faith, and i respect them all the more for it. but some people are able to avoid even thinking about it, writing it off as the devil's work and what not.
  6. I'm not sure it is obvious. It's only a special feature of your belief system if it's not true of others. In reality, people of all persuasions think, some several times a day. I have a different interpretation of the quote. I think it may mean that we live in a country where we are free to think, e.g., freedom to have various religious beliefs (or free not to) without being told what to think about religion by our leaders. I'm no expert on TJ, but when I consider the historical context, it makes some sense to me. I don't see the need to be defensive about the perceived insult that religious people don't have the freedom to think. I'm not seeing that meaning in the quote at all. But hey, maybe that's just me. i think in the context of criticizing religion, it is saying more that a large majority of religious people tend to be more close minded when it comes to questioning their religious beliefs. i.e. otherwise completely rational and skeptical people who use normal logic and reasoning and questioning skills in everyday life refuse to use those same skills on their own faith. but i don't really want to discuss this TOO much further, for fear that this will turn into a religious debate.
  7. I'm not sure it is obvious. It's only a special feature of your belief system if it's not true of others. In reality, people of all persuasions think, some several times a day. If the point is 'religious people don't think', it's worth saying (even if untrue or offensive). If the point is 'we think, as do most people', I don't think it works. A good slogan for humanism would be 'treat others as you would like them to treat you' but I think that's taken good point. although i still think i like the Jefferson quote better, because it seems less offensive, and just because Jefferson was badass.
  8. This is the best quote IMHO, nice and succinct ... Agreed; can't get any clearer than that. What do you think pacman ? Is this a good point about Humanism/Atheism or is it just saying that religious people are stupid? well obviously it's intended to be the first one, although no doubt some people (on both sides, i might add) use it or misinterpret it as the latter.
  9. This is the best quote IMHO, nice and succinct ... Agreed; can't get any clearer than that. What do you think pacman ? well i was actually thinking of going with the jefferson quote Then Jefferson it is. I'll put something together in photoshop for you this weekend. AwESOME! thanks dude! also, when your making the front of the coin (which should probably be 1.75 in around) can you put the word "Humanist" or "Humanism" across the top, with the rest of the values of humanism surrounding the logo. i have also modified the list a little bit: Compassion, Reason, Skepticism, Natural Ethics, Naturalism. edit: although for now, the words themselves are not important for a first sketch. the room for them is more important, but go with those words for now.

  11. are mystery coins usually trackable?
  12. humanism is not atheism by default. we are designing a humanist geocoin, specifically because i think it will go over better. besides, have you seen how many christian geocoins there are?
  13. is anyone still even interested in this? btw, can anyone please tell me the standard size of a geocoin?
  14. that would be awesome! If I am successful in getting this one minted, I'll definately put that on my list for next!
  15. well it couldn't hurt to have more than one concept art.
  16. is this still going on? just don't want to let it die!
  17. that sounds like a fair point. Yea, right now I only have one Utilikilt, so I can't wear it all the time, but come christmas, i'm hoping to have 1 or 2 more, because they are just so stinking cool, although they are really expensive.
  18. A few intemperate thoughts; 1 ) Is that a Utilikilt in your profile pic? Extra kudos for that! 2 ) I would personally suggest you hold off on hiding a cache for a little while. While there is no rule requiring X number of finds before you hide, and some folks are able to create awesome hides right from the beginning of their caching careers, experience is an awesome teacher. I can't help but think BillyBob with 50 very different finds will have a broader view regarding what works and what doesn't, than BillyJoe with 5 very similar finds. I should reiterate that this is just my opinion, and is in no way a Groundspeak requirement. 3 ) The Wherigo cache I'm building now is going to include a puzzle box inside an ammo can as one of its stages. As 9Key pointed out, these boxes are often quite delicate, and even without someone brute forcing their way into them, they can get broken fairly easily. My plan is to buy a few of them to have on hand, in the event one gets broken. Just something to consider. yes, that is a utilikilt! and yea, i can see what you are saying about the puzzle box
  19. can we get some concept art of that?
  20. i have to admit, i'm not a fan of all the micros, but maybe there could be a compromise where they could add a feature to the website where you could filter out micros, or at least caches that have logs only. I'd really like something like that.
  21. i was actually wondering about this, but for a different reason. I really am interested in trying to complete the cache across america series, and i want to take a coin with me and "dip" them in the caches as i find them, but i have already found one of them. is there some way for me to make a note that i dipped it or something?
  22. yes i did, and it was less than helpful. :/
  23. also, how many do you think it would be a good idea to get minted?
  24. by the way, do you guys think it would look better as just a normal press, or enamel filled? i was thinking black and white enamel could be cool.
