  1. Thanks, Kar, for the info. Now to complete my humiliation for the day..........what is "TIVO"?????
  2. Beth, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has just recently run another article on geocaching (don't remember the date), but it would be nice to have TV coverage, too. There are a lot of caches and geocachers in central Arkansas, so you should get taken up on your offer soon I'd think. Good luck.
  3. This one just appeared in my area. Take a look at the photo. Forget the bug bites, poison ivy, minor scrapes, etc. that's every day life, but this woman shows the attributes of a true cacher! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=82191
  4. Try this link for the New Mexico, Colorado, Utah hwy. 666 http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/Southwest/01/24/offbeat.highway.reut/index.html
  5. Forgot to add....comments must be received by Jan. 15th,
  6. Here are e-mail addresses to send comments to: sandy.burch@mail.state.ar.us (she is handling the comments) greg.butts@mail.state.ar.us (he is the ASP director)
  7. Thanks for all the imput. We really liked everyone's thoughts on the subject. This is concerning one particular cacher. We are planning a cache soon and our thoughts on the finds will be, if it ain't in the logbook it ain't a find. Unless they can convince us otherwise. If someone feels they have to cheat...may we suggest they get a life!?!?
  8. I know this subject has been discussed before, but don't remember the prevailing opinion. So if you want to direct me to the page # or month that's fine. Guess I'm naive but have now run across a cacher who is claiming finds he has not logged in the book. Is this best ignored? E-mail the cache owner? Which was done when we found we were the 1st to make the find, but he logged it as a find at the website. I really don't want to start a war, but this does annoy me.
  9. OK, there are 123 within 100 miles of my home coordinates...........BU-UT the driving mileage is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy much more!! Example GC17F8 is shown as 55.5 miles. From the house to the put in either to float or most of the time not possible to hike in is right at 90 miles and you still have a 2 to 3 hour float to the site and another 1 to 2 hours to the take out point. I am not complaining because it is a gorgeous trip. But 55.5 miles...barely as the crow flies and the ones that are 100 miles out require 5 hour driving times one way. So we don't get to too many of them. Now you have to understand us Arkies don't drive by distance, but by "time". Ask us how far it is to somewhere and we reply with how long it takes.
  10. Guess I was talking when I should have been paying attention, but 2 caches that I found are no longer listed. Waypoint no's GC5AE6 & GC68C. What happened to them?? These are in Arkansas.
  11. Sure glad to hear someone finds benchmarks easier to find ,'cause that sure hasn't been our experience!! Seems like most of the benchmarks we go looking for are long gone....things like roads being widened, landmarks (water tanks, schools) torn down and other similar situations. We are getting a good grounding in local history tho' talking with the oldtimers as we try to locate that wiley, elusive benchmark. Okay...now where is that old plat map from 1945......... .......Gone geocaching......
  12. Thanks Raouljan and PhoebeMax for your help. From our first excursion into benchmark hunting it looks like we may spend a lot of time reporting no longer existing bm. We found a 3rd that only the hole was left!
  13. What do we do about benchmarks that have been destroyed? For example there are 2 locations that no longer exist in our area. One was a water tank that was torn down a few years ago and the is a building that was also torn down.
  14. Thanks, Ttepee....I managed as usual to miss the obvious.
  15. Is there a way to arrange cache sites by distance from a place on the state page? Like home or wherever?
