  1. Bump I still do not have access to my one of my own bookmark lists - theakythecat. I can see it in my list of bookmarks but when clicking on it (to edit or view it for example) I'm told that I do not have permission to view the list. I have seventeen other bookmark lists all of which are unaffected. I am logged in. Is there any chance I can get control of this bookmark list again please?
  2. I have a private, non-shared bookmark list (titled theakythecat) which has 177 UK caches on it. I've just tried to look at it and it now appears to be owned by TinSparrow. The list contains my 177 bookmarked caches but is now called Georgia Back To School Challenge - A Work in Progress. TinSparrow does indeed own a public, shared bookmark list of that name but it has only 35 caches in it all of which are in the US. This doesn't appear to be just an ignore list problem.
  3. Specifically Switzerland, Ireland, Germany and the Czech Republic. According to this news item on the Camping and Caravanning Club website. I don't know the date of the report. Has anybody else heard of this and perhaps have more information? The report doesn’t give much in the way of detail but seems to suggest that a using a POI file for hotels, petrol stations, geocaches etc is just as much a no no as those showing positions of a speed camera.
  4. 500 caches found, unfound and owned within 14.7km (for the 'oldies' out there 9.1 miles ) and the 180 degrees south of me is the English Channel! I used to have one scheduled PQ which covered my 'not found' caches within 50km of home. Now I need three just to to cover 45km from home. Two years ago we were looking at travelling for thirty minutes to find a cache, now we are able to routinely ignore those which don't appeal. Swings and roundabouts... Quick edit: we are off to Prague in June (not geocaching related but we will no doubt succumb) and there are 500 caches within 5.6km (3.5 miles!!!!! of our hotel)
  5. Hello Horsforth-Seekers Welcome to (IMO) one of the finest hobbies in the world. Please enjoy the hunt, enjoy the great outdoors, smile whilst tramping through the mud and the rain, sweat whilst enduring 80 degree Celsius temperature , meet loads of exceptionally nice people out on the trail, or at events, and learn loads of useful information through the forums. The current forum angst will pass. No really! Undoubtedly, for us, the best part of caching has got to be going on holiday and being 'shown' the area by the locals. We have seen so many things that are off the usual tourist trail that it now wouldn't occur to us to go anywhere without checking out the local caches (remember to check out the multi-caches) . I'm almost envious of you that you have all this discovery in front of you. Happy caching to you. Janine
  6. I have an unactivated Big Ben which I would love to swap for your Stonehenge please. If there is anybody in the Sussex (Arundel) area who wants an unactivated Big Ben I put one in this cache on the 25th. It seems to still be there.
  7. You don't appear to be the only person with this problem. Linky
  8. I caught an article on our local news South Today last evening. Using a mobile phone and a bluetooth GPSr you can play games similar to pacman in the real world. It seemed to me to be akin to Wherigo, although frankly it is much more energetic than my sedate geocache walking. See here for information. Also see South Today for the news report. Scroll down to 'virtual game meets real world'
  9. Please be aware that not all bird boxes are of the blue tit variety where there is a very obvious hole on the front. Treecreeper boxes have a hole on the side where the box meets the tree. There may also be dormouse boxes present. These have the entrance at the back and so it will appear to be a box with no entrance. See here for examples. Bat boxes are another example where the entrance is not obvious.
  10. We did the two virtual caches in Kew gardens. I believe these caches are grandfathered in. It cost us £18 for the two of us to get in but we had planned to go to Kew anyway and the fact that there were caches there was a bonus. We wouldn't have paid admission just to get the caches. We also have NT membership so any caches on NT property (such as Bodiam Castle) where admission is charged are 'free' for us so are no problem. We also don't have to pay to park in their car parks!
  11. I've done a control printscreen before which puts a picture of what is currently on the screen onto the clip board. Paste this into a photo editing software program (like paint shop pro) and once cropped this can be saved as a jpg..
  12. Is this the one? Top Spot GCTC59 by Mr Tumnus It's NOT here: N 51d 22.100’, W 001d 22.151’ which is a palindrome if you take the westings first ( 001221515122100). It's at a much more attractive nearby location which is a palindrome if you take the northings first. (Even if you drop the leading zeros!) From the car park, it starts out very easy, but don't be fooled. It turns into a jungle of rhododendrons. Oh, and I'd better mention the ditches that are difficult to avoid and the bog to the south and west. Wear wellies and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. But please don't be put off - this really is an incredible experience. It would be perfectly legal, but perhaps rather foolish, to do this at night. This is typical of the terrain
  13. To add to your bookmark list: Glo-Holly-Glo!! on Hampshire/West Sussex border Sussex Wheel - Lights Out, West Sussex We got a FTF on this cache last Halloween. TwoWitt-TwoWooooooooo!, West Sussex. It is already on the bookmark list but is at present temporarily disabled.
  14. As the owner of the cache you get this information. I have just downloaded the GPX file and I only get S1, S2, S4 and S6.
  15. Funny we saw the program (taped) last night too and when it got to the end we just looked at each other! A browse through an atlas told us they got to the location of the magnetic north pole as it was in 1995. This site http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/geomag/nmp/northpole_e.php gives details. Currently the magnetic north is at about 82degrees and it is moving about 40km a year. What I hadn't appreciated is that the pole wonders about 80km on a daily basis too due to interaction of charged particles from the sun with the magnetic field. As to the location of true north as shown by a GPS it would be nice if it was 90d 00.000'N, arbitrary E/W but something tells me it isn't that simple. The datum will probably mess things up considerably plus you might only get low angle satellite coverage.
  16. I get this intermittantly with the download GPX button. Sometimes the page refreshes and sometimes I get the download. This started yesterday.
  17. You can download the US version free from here http://www.memory-map.com/ You can run more than one version on your pc at the same time. I currently have version 5 OS and the US version open. The US version can be used to calibrate scanned maps and these can then be used with the OS version. (OS maps can't be used with the US version without tweaking). I actually use both versions since I can then have two overlays. The European version also allows calibration and works as the US.
  18. Both MM on laptop and PDA Paper OS Explorer maps around our local area and the landranger series if on holiday. Despite having MM on the PDA we always carry a paper map (and compass). As has been said before planning a route is easier on a paper map than by looking at a 60x75mm screen.
  19. Oh dear. I know one graduate in a particular field who is going to be extremely embarrased about that! I think it is a great idea though. As to the cache non compliance, the task didn't have to be done well and it needn't have taken more than a minute so deletion is harsh but probably fair. Also remember that deletion is bound to lead to bad feeling from someone. Perhaps you need a note on the cache page saying if you are found not to have completed the task the log will be deleted? OTOH if they did sign the log book and they did find the cache...Your call.
  20. Basically the cache page is set up wrongly! There are a couple of other threads about this problem but Jeremy seems to think this is a non-issue and has not provided a solution. Q1, Q2 and S3 have no coordinates attached to the additional waypoints and so are not given on the PQs. Hence they do not appear on GSAK. The questions attached to Q1, Q2 and S3 are also supposed to be given in the body of the text of the cache. It leads to duplication in many cases (where the page has been set up as intended) but that is the way TPTB wanted it.
  21. I had the same problem last year. I would log in and then goto my profile and it would tell me to log in. Logging in again resulted in an ooops screen telling me I was already logged in. This only happened on the laptop though, not on the desktop pc. The problem was my end. I went into disk cleanup and deleted all the temporary internet files and cookies and have had no problems since. Probably worth a try.
  22. We have been on caching camping weeks (non-event) in Cornwall and Devon the last two years and the norm amongst our fellow campers appears to be satellite dishes! There is talk of a geocaching camping event on the South Downs this year though! On topic. We use a three man Eurohike tent (Millets and Blacks), which is fine for one or two nights, but are looking for a larger tent as space (for the two of us) is an issue for more than a w/e.
