  1. I think itd be a great way to introduce new people into the hobby of Waymarking and geocaching if there was a category for fishing spots. its be a great tool for sharing spots and for people interested in fishing or fishing a new area to find a spot near them. lots of fishermen would get interested very quickly, most already have GPSRs to mark their personal favorite spots. just an idea!
  2. i labeled it a multi and it was approved as one. works for me! thanks for the help
  3. just wanted some opinions. im placing a cache and im undecided what i should label it. the entered waypoints will take you to a parking area of a lake. youll need to answer a few questions about your surroundings once youre there. the answers to the questions will help you figure ut the coords of the cache. which is located somewhere around the lake. puzzle? multi? what would you call it?
  4. weve done something similar to that except we made a complete bag for the can out of the realtree material that has cuts in it so it dont lay flat, its "spiky". i dont have any pictures of them, ill have to snap some on my next maintenance round. it works very good

  6. bobbbers are not nessicarily cheap items. many of the bobbers in my tackle box cost over $3 each. the cheapest of the cheap bobbers i have are all over $.75 each. There are some super cheap bobbers, but from when he wrote you cant tell which kind he left. he very well could have traded up. it just sounds lame from the description.
  7. heres one of my more devious ammo can hides. i think i did a good job of breaking up the lines.
  8. i bought the geocaching game piece stencils from Sissy-n-CR, give them a pm. the "stick" and "leaves" and homemade. ive been experimenting with paint jobs for ammo cans for a while now. these have come a long way from our first. i dont think id change much at this point. ive got it down good. and im slowly switching out our old cans for cans in the new scheme so all of our containers look this good. the colors are flat black, flat brown, khaki, and olive drab. first layer is khaki, and before i spray i lay down a stencil ive made that looks like a tree branch. and dont worry about completely covering the base color. all you need to do is lighten it up. next color i do is flat black. this time i switch to leaf cutouts. randomly placing them on a side and misting the paint on. again, dont over do it, you dont want solid black, just a mist. the layers are so thin they dry almost instantly. you can apply the next color within a minute, or about the same amount of time it takes to do all 6 sides (yes the bottoms are done too ) the next 2 colors are olice drab & flat brown and repeat using the leaf stencils, just alternating them to where they werent the time before. the green and brown can be changed up some to customize the box to the area its at. the top box had green next, and brown final. i made it darker because its gonna slide in a hollow log. the second one i didnt even use brown. i wanted to keep it a little lighter because of the area its going to be in. and finally i used sissys stencils to finish it off. and ill write in the cache name & our names on the front when they are placed with a black magic marker.
  9. what do you think of my freshly painted cans? Thanks to Sissy-N-CR for the stencils! heres an action shot of one i finished a few days ago
  10. i dislike the way feelings and thoughts sometimes dont come across properly over the net. a few days ago, i made a post that at first may seem like i was complaining, but it was actually more about getting more reviewers and lightening the load for everyone. well of course everyone just comes in and tells me to be patient. i dont think more than 3 or 4 people actually read my original post. of course i made other posts in the same thread to clarify the point, but no one actually read them either. just bashing me for bashing the reviewers, and i also received a few emails bashing me for complaining about the job a volunteer is doing. maybe it was a bad title, maybe i shouldnt have mentioned being impatient myself, but a lil comprehention on the parts of a few people wouldve done a world of good. honestly, if i didnt enjoy geocaching so much, i wouldve been turned away from it by the words of some emails ive gotten since the beginning of my posting here in the forums. not speaking of my latest post, but some way back when i started and the emails i received from a few people because of them. luckily im a really easy going guy and laugh them off. but some people on these forums are really mean. which brings me to the second thing i dislike about internet forums. internet warriors. its easy to talk big behind a computer.
  11. you obviously missed the point and a few of my posts. this thread isnt to complain. it was about the number of reviewers maybe needing upped if the load is so high.
  12. actually new england noob made that point. i was just sayng thats the only really good reason ive heard yet. because empty they cause no hazzard at all. and id like to say that i know there are plenty of other trade items. we spend $20 at least every other week just on trade items. i was just looking for yet another item to use. one i have readily available to use. id also like to say we never place banned objects in caches, although we remove them quite often. which is why i asked the question, to get others views. if i were one to place phrohibited items in caches, this thread wouldnt have ever been made. those people dont care about rules, and i was trying to find out if it would be breaking the rules before i did it.
  13. i guess nobody really knows. it all boils down to "is a lighter still a lighter, if it dont light?" i guess truely it is. after all, a flashlight is still a flashlight if it doesnt light. but i guess that would mean that empty beer bottles are not allowed. but ive found a few neat ones. and ive heard of one hidden in a beer bottle. it would also mean that ammo casings are a nono. but ive found some in caches and found caches that are hidden in empty cases. an empty lighter is about as harmful as a mctoy. but im not gonna place them, cause the only good reason ive heard is the impression deal. a noob could get the worng idea and place a full one because of my actions.
  14. i just wanted to say my caches got published later the night after i originally posted this. and the cache i placed yesterday was published in less than 4 hours. i think most missed my point though. i was more curious of why there are so few reviewers. why cant they get more? i understand the work they do, all for free, but why cant they just get more help to make it easier on everyone if its such a big job? im sure there are hundreds of cachers who would be more than happy to volunteer and help with the chores.
  15. im aware of the guidelines. im just trying to get a consensus on whether its a lighter if it doesnt light? i guess itd be on the same lines of "could i leave a rare beer bottle as a trade item, as long as its empty". or maybe "can i leave the casing of a bullet as long as its empty"
  16. like i said, im too lazy the only reason i get them is i send stephanie in to get one. she cant get a cheap one so shell come out with one that looks like a fishing lure, lights up, or says "git r done". its not my thing, so im not gonna refill them. ill use them till they stop working. but im not about to throw away a $5 lighter that just needs more fluid to work again and again. so i just keep them
  17. ive collected myself a nice collection of novelty lighters over the past few years. they normally cost so much, i cant just throw them out when theyre empty. and im too lazy to refill them, so i just throw them in a drawer somewhere to collect dust. how does everyone feel about these as trade items? they are lighters, which i know are a no-no. but they wont light unless one refills them, so are they really lighters? or just fancy empty butane containers?
  18. i know, i know guys. ive done all i can do and now i have to wait. im not upset or anything. ive just had this trail scouted and the caches prepared for almost 2 weeks. original plans to place them last week, but the weather wouldnt cooperate. the thread was more to just to vent. it wasnt meant as a complaint. i know the reviewers have lives. and i know they have 2 or 3 days to approve my listing. i was unaware that so few people do so much. i figured there would be at least 3 reviwers for indiana alone. and i wasnt expecting the reviewers to also be forum moderators. thats a lot of responsibility to get things done efficiently, perhaps some new helpers are needed.
  19. a focus and when it gets running again, the mustang will become involved in rushing me to those FTFs
  20. i know theyre volunteers, and ok, so our approver may have the flu or worse. but isnt there more than 1 approver per state? and how much work could it be to approve a cache? read it over for rule violations, check a map, and click a button im guessing. i just dont see the hold up in a state that gets about 4-5 new caches a day avg. if we lived in a higher concentration of caches, itd make more sense. theres no rush. i originally had plans to place over last weekend, but weather ruled it out. i was going to place them on tues cause it was my birthday, but it rained all day. so i took them out yesterday in 3 inches of snow. to me it just seems like the caches have been a long time in the making and id like to see them approved. i was also hoping to pull the FTF guys out in the snow to do a 2 mile hike. but the snow has melted! also, if for some reason they are not approved, today is the day i would need to make changes. and the day is wasting away. if they were not accepted as of tonight it may be another week before i can go check them out. but there should be no problems with approval. im not really fussing or upset. just discussing the matter at hand. i know the time limit makes it to where theres no rush. but after 11 placed caches and none taking over 6-7 hours to approve, a 24 hour wait is forever!
