  1. I'd be hard pressed to come up with a better regular sized container than a $5 ammo can. I realize they're not allowed in all areas, but I've yet to see one leak, or degrade to the point of geotrash. I know there's cheaper containers out there, but I don't know of any that hold up as well for that small amount of money.
  2. There are exactly 9 caches within 10 miles of me. As others with low saturation have stated, caching for us is either a weekend day trip, or picking up a few as we go about regular running. My kids and I found 10 last weekend by backroading on the way to take them home. Today's cache trip should result in about 10 finds and somewhere near 100 miles.
  3. I actually left a relationship in which I felt the other person had a fairly high possibility of causing mischief. In the process I changed as many online accounts and passwords as possible. As a result I changed my e-mail pw, as well as my geocaching.com pw. Groundspeak could only e-mail my password to the address that they had associated with my caching identity, an address that I could not access.
  4. Somewhere in a desert I've never been to is a geocoin I once had posession of. In an effort to explain this sport to a truckdriving roommate of mine, I passed into his hand a geocoin I'd found in a recent cache. My understanding was he was going to create an account, begin caching, and place this coin in a cache along his route. What really happened was he just hid it somewhere in a desert in a bunch of rocks, then called me with the coordinates a couple of days later. At that point I really had no idea what to do. Hope someone stumbles onto it someday!
  5. After about a 3 year hiatus, for various reasons, I'm getting back into geocaching. In the process of doing so I've had to create a new account, name, etc. Just to try and see what I've missed out on I did a search of caches in the area where I used to live. Much to my surprise, VERY few of the 100+ caches I found before are still active. I knew there would be some loss, but never expected it to be that extreme. This is a fairly large city, so I'm aware that some will get muggled, some will disappear due to lack of maintenance, and some will simply go missing. The area I live in now is MUCH more rural, so it seems the caches are much more stable. A few have disappeared, but nowhere near the percentage in the more urban area. I suppose mainly due to the higher traffic. On the plus side, there's a whole new batch to find!
