Not at all Katie, we could go shopping together....now...where did Brad leave his credit cards???
-
She DOESN'T need encouragement! Shut it! More caching shirts??? YES! That's it! I could get one in red, and one in pink, and one in blue, and one in green, and one in........

We recently did the BoB series. Be prepared though, there are not actually 99 of them anymore. Several are archived, temporarily unavailable, or just plain missing. We had all planned our day around hitting an exact number, and had we known this...we would have done some other caches nearby when we had time. It was still a blast though, and it is only made better by the cachers you have with you!

Why Don't More Places Publish Their GPS Co-ords
The Herd replied to StrikesFolks's topic in General geocaching topics
While van shopping recently, I called a car lot that was a little over an hour away, in a bigger city, that I was unfamilier with. I actually asked the dealer if he could give me the "coords" to his lot. Luckily, his reply was "huh?" to which I simply said, "nevermind!" -
What Kind Of Vehicle Do You Drive While Geocaching
The Herd replied to uncleboogie's topic in General geocaching topics
Up until now, we used the official "herdmobile" which was a 1996 Pontiac Transport. If the kids weren't with us, we took the 2000 Grand Am. But, the Transport finally broke beyond our repair, and we had to buy a new vehicle. So now, the official "herdmobile" is a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette. It's so comfortable I fear we will all be asleep before we get to the cache! -
The problem is, I got the hole while fishing, not caching. Well, not even WHILE fishing, it was on the way TO the lake behind our house, to fish. A simple, "hey honey, be careful, that lure has 3 hooks on it, not just one" would have prevented the WHOLE thing!!! But, I guess I could make up some REALLY good caching story to go behind the hole!

I got a hole in my caching shirt!

I would have to say that because the posted sign says "trespassing for ANY reason is STRICTLY forbidden" I would pass this one up, unless there were something on the post to make it obvious that it were a cache. Perhaps get some mailbox letters and numbers and put the GC number on the post itself, that way, only cachers would know what exactly it was. I do think it is a GREAT hide, but the wording on the sign left as it is would make me not hunt it out.

Well, it's that time of year again. The first year was such a success that we are doing it AGAIN! (what am I thinking!?!) The 2nd Annual Pokagon Cacher's Campout is scheduled for September 22nd - 24th! You can visit the page here: PCC '06 or by searching: GCV9PZ. Cachers from everywhere are welcome, and if you aren't into "camping" you can day trip it that Saturday, as that is when most of the events are taking place! We hope to see last years attendees, as well as MANY new faces! Keep your eye out for the new PCC t-shirt, that will hopefully go on sale this week!

Geocachers Get Bad Wrap In Appleton, Wisconsin
The Herd replied to Turtlebug's topic in General geocaching topics
Couldn't possibly be animals eating his bulbs now could it? Raccoons (know this from experience) LOVE flower bulbs. Or, could it possibly be local kids/teens with nothing better to do? Or, couldn't possibly be the people going to the artesian well in the same park trampling the flowers. It's sad that the story is only one sided. Maybe a local could contact the writer and give them "the rest of the story." -
Let us all remember that ^^^^ and <<<< are two different people. I may love him, but doesn't mean we always agree. What the heck are you talking about? Oh, I'm sorry, did I confuse you? Huh. Let me try to make it clear...with words chosen carefully so that my post will not be turned all around in an attempt to make it sound like I am bashing anybody, as that is NOT the case! That being said... Some people (not mentioning ANY names, in an attempt to not single ANYONE out) are confused by the fact that while both Brad and I, Amber, cache under the team name "the herd", we (Brad and I) post in the forums under different accounts. I (Amber) use "the herd" and he (Brad) uses his (Brad's) work account, "Pokagon Nature Center." Sometimes we (Brad and Amber) accidentally post under each others (Brad and Ambers) accounts, (like above) but we (Brad and Amber) ALWAYS try to fix it as soon as possible. My (Amber's) post quoted above, in an attempt to make me (Amber) look like an idiot, simply meant that while we (Brad and Amber)may both post in here, we (Brad and Amber) don't always agree as far as our, (his and mine) opinions on certain topics go. Hope that was clear enough. now I get to sit back and see how THIS one gets turned around. I apologize for the repeated use of our names, but I wanted to make it clear up front WHOM I was refering to, in an attempt to keep people from reading WAY to far into something that isn't there. The ones who were confused, now understand and the ones who understood are now confused! LOL, great point, but it was the only way to make it impossible to switch or misinterpet what I was trying to say... I guess I could have done this at the beginning...(though, the irritation in my typing would not have come through so strong!) *BEFORE READING THIS POST, PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING KEY SHOULD BE USED: "we, our, ours, mine, his, her's, us" all stand for BRAD, AMBER or a combination of the two!

Ft. Wayne has a geocaching group??? I knew we had the Ft. Wayne forum, but a group??? Where does that leave the rest of us, the ones that aren't in Ft. Wayne. Ah, well, I will stay up here in my own little world.

Looking For Someone Interested In Maintaining A Cache In Michigan
The Herd replied to brotherbock's topic in Midwest
Wish I lived closer, its very beautiful there. Spent 5 weeks just outside of Iron River a fews years ago. Good luck. -
Been to Devil's Lake, but not to cache. Beautiful area, but looks like the caches might be difficult for a newbie. There are some eay enough caches nearby in Baraboo, but it looks like most of the state park caches have some high terrain ratings. I'd say bag the easy ones, then move on to the state park caches if you guys are feeling up to it.
-
Too far from there to know for sure. But, the permit is easier to fill out than actually placing the cache. Heard word from the grapevine that the IDNR state parks is going to promoting a geocaching contest this fall, with some pretty sweet prizes. Maybe Clifty will be involved with that.
-
Depends on which Devil's Lake you are referring to?
-
An issue I have with the "lifeline" option! All cachers, regardless of how hard they try, tend to place the cache back in a different position/location, therefore causing the cache to move. Sure, it may only seem like a few inches to you, but...it adds up. And there are always the ones that will move it further than a few inches. Yes, it may HAVE BEEN exactly where your "lifeline" is telling you it was, but, get off your phone and look around, it very well could now be 10 feet to your left!
-
We also have one in our local state park called Geo's Cache. Geo's Cache. Our beagle (rescued from the pound) is also named Geo. She is also a travel bug. Geo The Caching Beagle Back OT...we allow dog raw-hides in the cache, but they MUST be unscented. The state park here is one of THE MOST raccoon dense parks I have ever seen, and we have yet to have a raccoon attack our cache...knock on wood!
-
We bid two bottles and a cool walking stick with an indian head on it!!!
-
We didnt' forget him. Besides the new cache we placed. We'll have something out there that will be more accessible for him too...
-
It's interesting to see similar cans of off, cutter, or other bug sprays. The range of deet percentages varies alot. for mosquitos you can just hold your breath! lol Doesn't work so well against ticks though!

I carry swag...never know when your gonna find something unexpected that your kids just HAVE to have...yes...that's an emergency... Oh, yeah, and for me....TOILET PAPER!
