American Revolutionary War Graves

If the change is made, and a category "American Revolutionary War Patriot Graves" is added, I'll volunteer to be the first moderator of the category. -
Feature Request - Adopt A Waymark
evrik replied to evrik's topic in Getting Started with Waymarking (Read-Only)
Somebody has to be the owner of the waymark so they can archive it when it no longer exists. For example, there was a McD's in town that was turned into a pile of rubble the last time I went by. If it had been waymarked, the owner would now need to archive it since it no longer a McD. I am sure waymarkers will be just as unhappy looking for abondoned waymarks as geocachers are unhappy looking for abondoned geocaches. Thanks. -
American Revolutionary War Graves

If you go back to the first post, that's what I suggested! :-) What about a category for the patriots who didn't serve in the army or navy, like Ben Franklin? -
Department Of Veterans Affairs

I think that the placing of the GPS unit on the headstone is seen as disrespectful by others, whether or not that is the intent. There is a certain amount of game or hunt to geocaching. Whether or not we intend to be disrespectful, we may be offending others. I think that we should be sensitive to the way others perceive our actions. -

Veterans get a free headstone or marker, go here to order it. http://www.cem.va.gov/hm.htm -

Nope, not categories, a waymark itself. Much like you can on the geocaching site. -
American Revolutionary War Graves
evrik replied to evrik's topic in Recruitment and Category Proposals Archive (Read-Only)
That would be a good interim solution, but the Sons of the American Revolution, who have been marking tracking and conserving the graves class them as patriots. There were a lot of people who served the cause as bankers, clothiers, diplomats etc. Calling them soldier graves doesn't solve the Ben Franklin problem. -

Applying To Have A Waymark Change Categories

This is different. I created a waymark under libaries, and it should be under museums. At the time I created it there was no musuem category. -

American Revolutionary War Graves
evrik replied to evrik's topic in Recruitment and Category Proposals Archive (Read-Only)
That would be because Ben Franklin was not a soldier. So he doesn't fit in the category. Would you put Betsy Ross in a soldier category? Nope. Its really simple. No matter how many time it gets submitted if its not a soldier its not going to be allowed. Seems pretty simple to me. No reason to make this a sub-category. Its right where it needs to be. While Franklin did not pick up a gun, he was involved with military preparation. He helped build a fort, helped found the Pennsylvania militia and negotaiated military treaties- but it goes beyond Franklin. The current category (as it is defined) is not broad enough. Betsy Ross is a good example. Soldier, no. Patriot, yes. There should be another category for patriots, and both patriots and soldiers should be placed together under memorials. -
We started another thread about sub-categories in the memorial thread. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=118348

Currently, there is a category called, American Revolutionary War Veteran Graves. It falls under, Directory Home > People > Memorials > American Revolutionary War Veteran Graves I think that a new category needs to be made, American Revolutionary War Graves. The current ‘veteran graves’ category would then become a subcategory under the new meta category. Along with this, a new sub-category should be created called, American Revolutionary War Patriot Graves. If this sounds confusing let me lay it out ... American Revolutionary War Veteran Graves • American Revolutionary War Veteran Graves • American Revolutionary War Patriot Graves This is precipitated by the fact that the owner of the current ‘veteran graves’ category won't approve new waymarks unless the person was a soldier, so other patriots (i.e. Ben Franklin) who risked their lives and fortunes can't be logged.

Waymark In Two Categories?
evrik replied to ibycus's topic in Getting Started with Waymarking (Read-Only)
I didn't see this thread until I after I started my other thread ... When A Waymark Fits In More Than Category -
This is similar to the query I made here, Applying To Have A Waymark Change Categories, but slightly different. I think there should be some option to allow for the cross posting of waymarks. For example, the Waymark Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the American Revolution is currently in American Revolutionary War Veteran Graves. It could however also fit in NPS Passport Cancellation Stations. There are currenlty some duplicate waymarks in different categories. Cross-posting would eliminate some of the duplication and make the site easier to use.

Applying To Have A Waymark Change Categories
evrik replied to evrik's topic in Getting Started with Waymarking (Read-Only)
Okay, so I created my waymark before the category of museums was created. I chose libraries because it was the closest open categroy. Then museum was created. Yes, they variables may be different, it seems silly to have to created the same waymark in two categories. -
Deadline is Saturday. If there are problems, please PM me.
