So, my son, who is high functioning autistic and our family have started geocaching. we started doing research about a year ago. We have found about 11 in two weekends (we have finally been able to work out some weekends). So, the problems that we have been having are probably normal ones of not knowing what we are looking for. Not knowing anyone else that does this. I think a little advice from others in the area or maybe a mutual geocache trip between us would be great for tips. So far the ones in the light poles have been our easiest finds. we found one in a tree. and a couple under trees. But, we are still kind of trying to learn how to do this and to do it right. how to decide if our coordinates are off or if we are standing right around it and just missing it. I would love it if we could connect with someone local that maybe could help me out. My husband isn't really really into it bugt I think when we get to the walking ones that are a little further out he might get more into it. But the kids love to clean up the area (they are 14 and 16 and believe it or not see this as a great community service thing.) Of course the find is the excitement. Currently they do ok we each fill up a bag (we have smallish bags), then we will look really hard for the cache. I think they are disappointed when the area is already clean. but, they really would love to get some tips from someone with some actual experience. So far we have done ok. We have two we haven't found. Then the next day, someone goes and finds it. We are 2 no finds and 11 finds. But they are mostly the ones in the light poles. So, I would love to connect with other locals and get some tips. Thanks! We live in Aurora. We have a pretty good trade kit and have a ready to go cache when we are ready to place our first one. We also have three travel bugs and a geocoin to get out into the mix. We are also looking for a travel bug to move to Illinois when we go there for a wedding in Illinois! So, we are hoping on one of these trips to actually find one where it says it is.
