Thanks for the quick reply. Here's another question. It appears that once a cache is loaded in to GSAK (via pocket queries) the logs do not update again. Maybe it's a setting I'm not aware of. In other words, I'd like the cache listing, including the logs, to keep updating each time I load a pocket query. Is this possible? I loaded the "My Finds" query and it eliminated all logs but my own. Not what I wanted. Thanks.

Can I install gsak on a USB flash drive and run it from there on multiple computers? Or would I have to install on each computer and keep the database file on the flash drive? Thanks, John

Who Places The Best Caches In Your Area?

In New Jersey I'd say Team KwikSilver and TwoCat. -
I'd like to be number one someday...but only because I outlived the rest of you.

Upgrade From Gps V/geko 101 To 60c/76c

So basically what you're saying is that there is no need for me to purchase a new unit for geocaching. Right? -
Upgrade From Gps V/geko 101 To 60c/76c
caylor replied to caylor's topic in GPS technology and devices
First, there was a huge price difference between the "V" and the "101", so I would expect the "V" to work as quickly, if not quicker, than the "101." Second, there is no real map data when I'm in the woods. The screen is basically blank so where's the load delay. The delay I have a problem with is related to the compass pointer. The "101" turns toward the cache as I'm walking. If I spin around in one spot, the arrow spins also. The "V" may let me walk way past the cache before it corrects itself. The real question - Are the other units (60c/cs, 76c/cs) more accurate, hold a signal better and process faster that the two I have? Should I just wait for the phantom Sirf GPS? Thanks. -
I already have a GPS V which works great for me on the road. I use a Geko 101 for geocaching. For some reason the GPS V does not work as quickly as the Geko when out in the woods so I tend to leave it in the car. The Geko is surprisingly accurate (for the price) most of the time. Any reason to purchase a 60c or 76c for geocaching? Will either get better reception or be more accurate? Thanks, John

I've seen lots of feedback on the Garmin GPSMAP 60C and the 60CS but not too much on the 76C or 76CS. The 76 has a lot more memory and the 76C is around the same price as the 60CS. Any help is appreciated. John

I could easily create new listings but I could not duplicate the original pages. Artful Dodger was more creative at it than I am. Check out the listings. I only modified them a little. GC66F2 - The Video Shop http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e0-a998fade86b2 GC69DE - The Jukebox http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...c0-159dff0b6f03 John

These are two themed caches. One is movie related and the other is music related. I did not want to create new listings because the ideas were not mine. They belong to Lawrence (The Artful Dodger) and I would be "stealing" his work if I created a new listing. I adopted them because I thought they were very clever ideas and should continue to be available to the geocaching community. John

I recently adopted two cahes from The Artful Dodger - The Video Shop and The Jukebox. The Jukebox had been archived because it was missing in 2003 and never replaced. I activated it again with a new cache and moved it to a new location. I offered everyone a new find on this one because of the new location. The Video Shop was an active cache that needed replacing. I put out a new box with all new contents, but in the same location. Can I offer everyone a new find on this one? Thanks, John

You're out in the snow and you find the cache. How do you make it not so obvious to the next person? John

That explains it. I didn't know it was tied to premium membership. That came later. Thanks.

I noticed that there are many charter members that joined after me. I have been a member since January 4, 2002 and I'm not listed as a charter member. Anyone know why? Just curious. Thanks, John

If you google "free conference call" you'll come up with several sites that offer "800" numbers for a conference call of up to 99 people. I've used them and they're great. And they really are free. John

I agree with the concept that someone will be interested or not. Don't waste time on the "not's". I think there's more of a need to recruit current geocachers to place traditional regular size caches, not micros, so our kids have something intersting to look for. They don't buy in to the "log only" thing no matter how great the view is. BTW, I bought my first GPSr before I knew about GC. I started doing this to justify the money I spent. John

My idea is to place some quality (and some novelty) items in to all of the caches I find, whether I trade or not. I'm not going to restock the cache or remove any items I may think are sub-par. Binky: Thanks for the link. I have no problem buying novelty items made in China. Oriental Trading, founded in 1932, is now owned by a investment firm in California and employs hundreds of people in Nebraska. To all: I love these suggestions. A lot of them never came to mind because I've never seen them in a cache. Keep 'em coming. John

I'm trying to improve the contents of some of the caches in my area by adding some quality swag. The stuff I've seen is pretty bad (doll's head, car with wheel missing) and the kids are disappointed. They're starting to lose interest even though I tell them the point of the game is the "find" and not the "treasure". They're perceptive enough to know that it's not fair that we try to put in good stuff while all that's there is garbage but, again, I tell them it has to start with someone. It may as well be us. What's good stuff to use and where can I get some? I don't want to spend big bucks per item but the dollar store near me has little that's interesting. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Anyone ever sync two Palm PDAs (different OS) on the same PC? Would you have to set up two different user names? I use a newer Tungsten III for important stuff and would like to use my older Handspring Visor for gc with cachemate. Any help is appreciated. John

Well, that worked. I shortened the short and long descriptions and it let me make the changes. Now I'll have to refresh my HTML memory. Haven't used it in years. Is there an easy WYSIWYG editor available that's good and free? Thanks for the help. John

I adopted * The Video Shop * by The Artful Dodger - GC66F2 and I'm just trying to add my user name to the listing. If you click on profile, it takes you to my profile. I'm sure I'll be making some other changes later but I can't get past this simple step. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...e0-a998fade86b2

Thanks for the reply. 1) When is the fix going to happen? 2) I'm trying to add my name to an existing cache listing that I adopted. I'm not touching anything else. Why would I get an error? John

I just adopted a cache (GC66F2) and hit the "edit listing" button at the top right of the page to make a change to the listing. After the change I hit the "edit listing" button at the bottom of the page - the other option was "reset" which I didn't try. I then received the error message below and the listing page did not update. Any help? Who should I direct this to? I'm not running out of room yet but... I run my Pocket Queries and download a bunch of waypoints to my GPS V, go out and find them and log them in. Now I don't need the waypoints. Any way to delete a bunch at a time or do I have to do it one by one? Thanks, John

I followed your collective advice and e-mailed the owner. He replied quickly and said: "Thanks for the offer. Yep! I am basically out of the geocaching scene now. I have other pressing interests that take up my spare time so I cant really geocache anymore. If you could replace the container, I would really appreciate it. I would do it myself except that I have moved since placing the cache." I sent a follow up e-mail asking him how he feels about me trying to adopt this cache and maybe some of his other caches in my area. I'll let you know what he says. If he says it's OK, who do I contact at geocaching.com to ask about adopting the cache? Is there an e-mail address to use? Thanks, John
