  1. I would rather have a cacher log that situation as a Note. Here is the reasoning. I run a quick PQ and load it to gsak. I run down the list and anything with a couple DNF's I delete before I load to gps. Usually the case where I am going to a new area and only have a limited time to cache. I don't want to waste it going to caches that haven't been found the last few times. Now when I have more time to cache I will not eliminate those caches from the list.
  2. All you have to do is make a log to the cache that it should be archived. Explain the problem and a reviewer should remove it immediately.
  3. I checked and it does say something to that effect on the pages now, although I don't think it did when I did part of it. However, I don't think its such a good idea to be replacing containers on geotrails that do not have identical hides. And I don't think leaving a pill bag under a rock is a good idea for any cache. The next finder, and several others would report that it needs maintenance. Then the cache is found right where it should be, and in fine shape. If you are going to leave a throwdown, how about using an actual container? And keep it limited to the geotrail? With the copy and paste logs, nobody can tell which ones, or how many were "replaced" this way. The finders probably do not remember either. </rant> I have been kicking around an idea for a geotrail along a bike trail and every couple of miles having an ammo can with logsheets, baggies, and some pill bottles so that if cachers want to, they can stock up and replace as needed. I am a little less sure about the pill bottles just because they take up so much room. And just why would you put out a bunch of caches and expect everyone else to maintain them? If you put out a cache you should be responsible enough to go out and check on them and replace when needed I personally am getting tired of people doing this Just plunk down a bunch of caches and let everyone else take care of them. Part of the responsibility of placing caches is to take care of them. Geotrail, powertrail or just a single cache When you place a cache of any kind you are agreeing to maintain them.
  4. That helps explain this situation. The manual makes it sound like you can add points from the list of caches loaded into a file. Thanks so much to all for all the help and explanations Not a tecky person so this all helps.
  5. Ok that takes care of that confusion for me. LOL Thanks for all you help in sorting this out for me.
  6. Ok will try that. According to manual I should be able to add points to route but it just doesn't seem to work. Will try TOPO Thanks so much
  7. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I thought it did route. I have been using the routing for quite some time on an individual basis but thought I would try making a route with 75 caches that are all over the state. Thought it might help me route out the best way to get them. Back to my old methods I guess. Yes, I have done something very similar as you have described. It does work very well. Thought I would try something new and thought according to the manual it would work but doesn't seem to be. Oh well, Back to the drawing board. LOL Thanks again for your quick response.
  8. OK need help here. Have followed the directions in the manuel and must be doing something wrong. I have downloaded PQ in the Delorme. I would like to select a few of these caches and put them in a Route. According to manual I name route, then click on add, then find method, then click the add button. When I do this it asks drive or hike and I select drive. It then does the calculation to that geocache. Then I try to add another and it does the same thing. When I look at Routes. The only thing that shows it the last geocache routing. The name of the route isn't even there. What am I doing wrong? Or am I trying to do something that this unit is not capable of? Totally lost here.
  9. I am having the same problem. I can't even look at my finds. Hmmmm view profile, geocaches, found goes to search page. view profile, geocaches, own, goes to search page.
  10. Yes, I would say you are becoming addicted. LOL At least your daughter is. But please explain to her that she is NOT to tell her friends where they are or they will come up missing. You know, one tells one child, that child tells another, etc etc. Then the whole idea of secrecy is gone. Have a great time with it. Your child will learn so much about nature, historical places, learn to look for things out of place that are not natural. ETC Etc. So much to learn, so many caches, so little time. LOL Welcome to the World of Geocaching.
  11. I have placed many caches in interesting places, historical or otherwise. I have put out a Nursery Rhyme series of caches with each container decorated to fit the rhyme. I have made several big enough with good swag for the kids. What do I get in return? TFTC logs, smiley logs. people take swag and leave nothing in return. Etc, etc. I get cut and paste logs that say nothing about the cache to even indicate that they were actually there or appreciated the spot or the container. Do you think I am going to bother to put the effort in the process much longer? Thank goodness for some of the cachers that write nice logs that DO appreciate the time and effort to put out more interesting caches or I wouldn't bother at all anymore. OK I feel better now. I feel your frustration but it does work both ways. I get tired of looking for pill bottles, magnetic keyholders, nanos and bison tubes too. But when traveling I try to look up the favorite caches in the areas, the virtuals, and the earthcaches as they are usually the more interesting ones. Takes time but well worth the effort. Lots of great caches out there you just have to pick and choose.
  12. Not sure about a phone app but on my gps I just set a waypoint marker on the device and then I can navigate back to it I have found that the tracking does not always work the best as the way I take in is not always the best track. Sometimes find a trail along the way I could have taken. By setting the waypoint if I find a trail back out I can navigate to the car no matter where I am.
  13. You can also contact the cacher that is supposed to be holding it and explain that you picked it up and am waiting for them to drop it in the cache so you can retrieve it That might spur them to drop it. They may have forgotten which cache they dropped it in and that might help. Let them know which cache you picked it up from. Have they logged the cache?
  14. I love cemetery caches and find them very interesting and educational about an area. I would love an attribute for them. When I travel I like to do the cemeteries in the area. Now I have to search for them The maps don't always show where the cemeteries are. I know a lot of people don't use the attributes when they list a cache but if half would use them it would help greatly It does help when the caches in the area are named with things like SQ or something that indicates that it is a cemetery.
  15. That's worse than dropping a container because they couldn't find it and claiming a find on the cache. I find that repulsive too. How can you claim a find on a cache that you placed? LOL I too would inform the person that the log would be deleted if they don't sign the log. How dare her. You can accumulate a lot of caches by figuring out the puzzles and logging the caches. Only one rule to geocaching and that is find it and sign the log. Hope this person is a newbie and hasn't made a practice of this. However, its really not hurting anyone except them. As they didn't experience the find.
  16. When you log that you and your family are going to attend You could always say something in your log about that you would like to start over with the local cachers or make amends and learn more about caching etc etc. That way they know you are open to suggestions etc. Just a thought. Wow read the logs and hope some of those cachers don't come to visit my caches. I have people say coords were way off then the next cacher says coods were spot on. LOL it happens all the time. My gps has its "days" where it just won't settle and am sure other gps's are the same. You learn to live with it. Good luck. I know I have formed opinions of people from the logs and then when I met them and got to know them felt all together differently. Give the cachers a chance to meet you.
  17. I too was having problems with the maps in the Pocket query dept but it started working a week or so ago. Today I checked and thought oh nooo here we go again. It took quite a few seconds for it to switch from my home location map to the query map but it did open and show my query. Maybe just not waiting long enough for it to switch? I run IE10 also. Let it sit there for a while and see if it will convert to the query map. Hope this helps
  18. Cachers that place caches with 10 log sheets stuffed in a pill bottle with narrow opening so you actually have to dig them out. So many log sheets, are they not planning on coming back to this cache to check on it for a while? Cachers that just stuff the log sheet back in a cache without folding or rolling neatly. Then you have to leaf through and straighten out to find where to sign it. Why not fold or roll it so its ready for the next cacher to sign? Cachers that leave nasty things in caches. I have found rubbers, (unused thankfully) And no I don't think it was a muggle. Three caches in the same day in different areas of town. Highly unlikely that it was a muggle. Cachers that find a cache and then don't replace it like they found it hidden. Have had to go "find" my own caches sometimes. If I wanted it hid I a stump 50 ft from where I originally placed it I would have put it there in the first place. Cachers who leave TFTC for a log. Then all the ones mentioned above.
  19. I personally hate the visits on the travel bugs. Pages and pages of visits, sometimes every 528 ft if someone is on a power trail. If I travel somewhere quite a distance then I sometimes let it visit to add the miles. Or if I have taken pics at the cache area with the traveler I let it visit. People that are carrying their own trackable and want it to visit each cache for tracking purposes set their phone device for automatic visits. However that also sets all the trackables in their possession for automatic visits. What would you like done with your trackable? That is what I go by.
  20. Thanks for the info but makes me really angry that they wouldn't fix something like this right away. Really disappoints me in the site. Maps are important!!!!!
  21. MAPS STILL NOT WORKING ON PQ'S AT ALL HERE. Grrrrrr Thought it was supposed to be fixed last night. PQ's totally useless to me. I am not all that computer savy I am soooo frustrated. Easy fix anyone? I just got a new laptop and don't really want to have to download a bunch of stuff on it. Just getting it figured out with this stupid Windows 8. Is anyone else as frustrated as I am with this? Thought I was being patient but have run out of patience. Are they working with Chrome? Don't know anything about that browser or how to use any other browser but IE. I just don't know what to do. Help someone. Didn't they say there was a fix coming on Wed? I don't see any difference.
  22. Same problem here I would have thought it would have been fixed by now. It sure screwed up my holiday caching. I was trying to do a county run and it was very difficult to map it out. Very disappointing. Sure hope they get it fixed soon. I tried to use someone else's computer with a different browser and it didn't work on that one either. Was very frustrating. Fix coming soon? Hope someone from headquarters will respond to all of us having problems soon.
  23. Same here and since I am not really very computer smart I guess I will just have to live with it as I don't understand what people are saying they are doing to fix the problem. Hope the site fixes it soon. I am lost without it.
  24. From Pocket query preview cannot map it. Goes to map of home location and just stays there. Grrrr Deleted cookies, rebooted etc. no luck
