  1. so use the old one I am using the old maps most of the time now. Can't get bubbles to come up on new maps most of the time, can't tell if there are trackables in the cache if you do get the bubble up, can't load directly to gps from the bubble. The icons for the new maps as to type of cache is not as nice, disabled caches are not marked, etc etc etc. I am praying they fix all these bugs soon as I have some travels coming up and would like the features back. I load gps out on the road as we never know where we are going next for sure. Drive into a McDonalds or Bob Evans Parking lot, fire up the computer and load a few caches for that area. Now its a pain to do that on the new maps. I am keeping my fingers crossed for more "improvements".
  2. I too hate the fact that you can't load caches directly from the bubble. I used that alot for a quick way to load caches when I found myself with a little time in an area that I normallly don't go. Stop at McDonalds, pull out computer and quickly load a few caches in the general area. Another factor that I miss is that you can't tell if there is a trackable in that cache without calling up the cache page. All in all I am not impressed with the changes that have been made. I find it not user friendly at all. Especially the way I was using it. I don't always have time to do PQ'a or don't want that many caches loaded. I will still be using the old maps again I guess at these features on still on those maps. I had high hopes for the updates and am VERY disappointed so far.
  3. I really appreciate all the tips and suggestions I received on this subject. Now all I have to do is figure out exactly the best option for me and my ablilites. I don't learn new tricks easily but I usually get the job done one way or another. LOL I am really shocked and pleasantly surprised how quickly I received answers to my questions from all of you. Thanks so much to all.
  4. Ok I tried this and deleted the file that it created and bingo no more field notes on the GPS. Wow that was easy, Thanks
  5. I certainly do appreciate all the help and advice. Once the site is back up I will try to upload the field notes and see what happens. I feel better now that someone else was unsure about this too,. LOL Don't feel so stupid now. Well, maybe I do, because I read about Cache Register, read the forums in Delorme and seem to be more confused than I was before. As you can tell, doesn't take much to confuse me when it comes to technology like this. When I read about Cache Register is said when I uploaded it would wipe out the GPS waypoints and I have 500 caches in it. Would hate to see that happen. I am still trying to figure out which maps I need on this GPS so it will route me to caches. Have tried to route and on most of them it says unable to route so I figure I don't have the right maps loaded. So you see, I am totally stupid about this stuff. I loaded the maps for my area but it seems to only be the main roads and when in the country as I am most of the time, it won't route me. So, when I get lost in the State Forest on all those dirt roads I use the Nuvi in the truck to get me out. LOL Did not load the Topo Maps on it as I read they weren't that great. Others say thats all they use. Confusing, confusing, confusing. LOL Will just keep reading and reading to figure out how to best use this GPS. Thanks again for all the help.
  6. Thanks for the quick reply and info. I will check into the forums at Delorme. My biggest problem is that most of the time I do not understand all the terminology that people use as I am all new to this. I probably am doing things the hard way on this GPS but since I don't understand most of the terms I hesitate to download a lot of things as I am afraid I will really mess things up. I usually create route and use GASK and load caches onto GPS that way. I just started using the Logging Caches on the GPS used to just delete the cache and write down on a piece of paper the ones I found for logging later. Ventured out to the feature of logging the cache on GPS and now don't know how to get those field notes off without loading to computer. Since I have already logged those caches on the site was afraid they would log them again. I am reallly stupid when it comes to this computer stuff and afraid to experiment too much, LOL Will check into the CacheRegister you mentioned and go from there I guess. Thanks again for trying to teach this old dog some new tricks. LOL
  7. I just started using a Delorme PN40 and can not find the answer to my question in the book. When I went caching the last couple of times I logged the cache as found on the GPS. However I do not want to tranfer the finds from the GPS to the site as all it says is TFTC and I like to post more info than that and do not want to take the time to do the log on the GPS while I am out. Now the field notes are on the GPS and I don't know how to remove them. Help anyone? I individually deleted the logged caches but the field notes are still there.
  8. I must be old fashioned of whatever. I do not ask for help finding even the hardest caches. If I can't find it on my own, by looking, reading logs, etc. I feel I don't deserve the smiley. Lately I have read logs where people have called the CO from the site and have gotten extra help and praised themself for finding the cache. Did they find the cache? Or did they just follow directions from the CO. Makes no matter to me if someone logs a find that way or not but I don't feel like I could do that. I feel the same about power trail teams, leap frogging practices, etc. But since it really doesn't hurt me any... But, I don't understand how they can feel good about these "finds". Just my thoughts.
  9. I did a seven location multi but swore I would never do one again. Just took too much time and too much driving around for one smiley. If they had been closer maybe wouldn't be so bad. I got a little bored with it. Same containers but was back in same location approx. a couple of times. Wasn't very well laid out. took me to uninteresting places and alot of bushwacking. Now if it had takem me to interesting areas and historical spots I probably would have enjoyed it.
  10. Try not using perfumed soap, fragranced shampoos, or cologne. Avon once had some handy wipe type things that were wonderful. Don't know if they still carry those or not.
  11. I purchased a package of toothpicks in the dental section of Walmart that are plastic and have little "burrs" on the end used for flossing. (Not the kind with the brushes on the end, but that might work too.) I wrap the log on it and then pull the toothpick out from the other end. The little "burrs" grab the end of the paper and holds it and you care wrap it up quickly and tightly. I used to get frustrated with those logs especially trying to be stealthy in a public place. LOL This sure helped me out.
  12. I was using a etrex legend and it also loaded the GC code for each cache. I hand typed the name into each cache on the gps after I loaded it. It took just a few seconds but was helpful. On the GPS you can call that cache up and highlight the name and then type in the name. I then switched to GSAK and it loaded the names also. Now I have switched to a Delorme Earthmate PN40 and love it. As far as the 20' off common. I usually walked around until the numbers went up and then walked the other direction until the numbers went up to zero in on the location. then put the gps down and just look. Most of the caches are not going to be exact. A lot of factors interfer. Electric lines, weather, tall buildings, tree cover (canopy) etc etc. Good Luck,
  13. I don't know what is going to be the advantage of the Beta Maps yet but I sure don't like the way they operate now. Have a terrible time with them. I probably load caches the old fashion way but it sure destroyed my loading up caches for the trip I plan on making that day. I would call up a map and then click on the icons for the caches that I wanted to load that I hadn't found and now I can't seem to do that. Everytime I click on an unfound cache the map just keeps getting bigger and bigger and doesn't call up the information about a particular cache. I hate it. Give me back the old maps please!!!!!
