  1. After looking closer at the 2 bugs linked above it appears not only were the TB's taken, but the whole cache they were each in. Each last drop of the bug was also the last time each respective cache was found. Looks as though someone just came by and took the entire cache. It's a shame really....I can't believe someone would take the time to steal a cache. I mean really what's the point. Typically there isn't anything of much value in a cache.....except to the owner that bought materials to place it.
  2. Guess I never thought of that. So really no TB ever has to be "dead". If you can just make another I guess. Good idea. I'm going to continue browsing through the micro bugs, some intersting things out there. Gives me ideas.....maybe not for a micro, but something out of the ordinary.
  3. I don't know that I'd place a micro bug, but these are pretty interesting. Is this allowed by the offical GC rules though? I know you can't have a virtual TB, for the example of your TB goes MIA...then your copy gets placed and also goes MIA...then that's it. Is it okay with the powers that be if you make your own tag?
  4. Yeah I picked up a bug that was placed weeks ago in the cache I "grabbed it" from. I emailed the previous person to give them a heads up and give them a chance to place it. They emailed back with just an "okay". Then I gave them about another week....and eventually just grabbed it from them so I could place it again.
  5. I'm wondering the same thing. Locally I know I can get it for $120 at BassPro Shops. I'm sure it's cheaper online somewhere, but not sure if it'll make up for shipping.
  6. You can get the Cx's now...at least the Legend Cx I know. I ordered mine last week and got it on Friday. gpsnow.com....$245 + shipping. Just a heads up.
  7. Sounds like a good price. I took a quick look a few days ago and saw 512 at amazon for about $47 I think.
  8. Either unit would be great. Also I know you can get the legend Cx for $245 (gpsnow.com) as I just ordered one this week myself. The other thing to keep in mind is the mapping software. For caching it may not be as important to you, but if you want to use it for driving directions you will need the additional software. Keep in mind this software will be another $100+ when/if you decide to get it.
  9. I just bought a Garmin Legend Cx, just got it in the mail today actually. I also came from the yellow etrex, and this legend Cx is great so far. Tomorrow I'll be out caching with it for the first time. It is/has color, mapping, autorouting, expandable memory....many, many more things than old yellow. Cost $245.
  10. After reading further in the Cx manual I noticed it says the microSD is interchangeable with TransFlash cards. A quick search for TransFlash cards took me to Amazon.com were you can get a 256M card for $35...or a 512M card for about $47. Not too bad, I may be upgrading sooner than I thought.
  11. I'm not sure on the max card size, as I don't have my Cx yet. Should say in the manual I think. I do know that on garmins site under accessories for the Cx they show a 128 and a 256 card. So maybe 256 is the max? *EDIT* According to the manual from garmin is says... Map Storage: Dependant on the fomatted capacity of the microSD card. So I guess that is to say there is no limit on the card size you can use with the Cx.
  12. I've been reading up on the same issue. Guessing that Garmins part/item numbers are in order then Navigator seems to be the newest product. From what I've heard and read the navigator files are over 24mb each. So I'm thinking along the lines of either getting a larger microSD, or using select so that I can fit more than 1 area on my Cx. this is just what I've gathered though, and may not be 100% accurate....may not be 30%. *EDIT* How large are the maps from navigator? Will they fit on the 32 mb card?
  13. I'd say using the 15 minute or any charger would be the best in my book. Just be sure to buy quality batteries with high mah ratings. We use some 2200 mah which work fine and some 2500 mah which are great. I did have some lower mah before and they were a pain. The battery meter was never right, which I can deal with...but they didn't gradually fade away. It was like low battery, then dead. Not much warning.
  14. Sorry I ever questioned gpsnow in my previous post. I just for fun checked their tracking page, not expecting to see any changes as I just ordered a couple hours ago, and this is what it says. Order Packed, Awaiting Pickup by Carrier (as of 1/26/2006) Woohoo. Sorry I'm excited for a new toy.
  15. I guess the extra reflection would be a fair trade for protection.
  16. Interesting. I guess I'll be in the market for a new GPSr in a few more years.
  17. Good to know. I'm coming from the basic (yellow) etrex that I've had for many years. So the map area is all new to me. I wish the search feature was working on the site here, I need more info. I thought I read somewhere that I could get maps on the unit without the city navigator software, if I wanted to put the effort and time into it. Although I think it said I would be able to use autorouting? Guess it'll be some more heavy forum reading the next few days.
  18. Strange I just made it to BassProShops tonight to get a hands on look at the 60c and the legend c. At which point I realized the 60c, in my mind, may not be worth the $100 difference from the legend c. So I left the store with only one more point of confusion, and that was the 24mb of storage. Would it be enough? The store associate mentioned that the city navigator software wouldn't work with the legend C due to memory capacity. This was a point that I had missed up to this point, assuming this is accurate. Then I started looking into the legend Cx model more, and realized that looks to be the way to go. I didn't think it was in stock anywhere yet, then I found this post. Thanks for the link, I ordered mine a little bit ago and it should be here tomorrow. (fingers crossed that it really is in stock and ships today) Thanks again.
  19. I use only my basic (yellow) etrex. I simply hit "GoTo" from my house and follow the arrow all the way. And occasionally the hint printed or written down just in case.
  20. I'm in the same boat. I'm upgrading my basic (yellow) eTrex to something new. Basically what I had carved it down to was between the Legend C and the GPSMAP 60. They aren't too far apart in price as I've found the legend C at $210 and the GPSMAP 60 at $245. Basically from the specs they seem really similar as far as things I'm concerned with. The Legend C is obviously color and a better battery life. Granted the screen is a little smaller, but it's color. So now I'm stuck at the point where I wondered if the GPSMAP 60 really got a better/stronger signal than the legend c? I will use the unit for odds and ends things, but mostly geocaching. I'd like the color screen but would stick with the grayscale GPSMAP if the reception is really better or more accurate. Any thoughts? *EDIT* Just saw this part of your post. Anyone else have any input? If this is the case and one is not the clear winner I guess I'm going with the Legend C.
