  1. You can now .. according to the wiki site The following Garmin GPS units can be used to receive chirp data only (they cannot program a chirp): Colorado 300, 400t, 400i, 400c (as of software 3.60)
  2. Just had a look at the lists of your profile page qrang. You missed off Wherigo I have found 16 and so far haven't come across anyone else (in the UK) that has found any more (I know someone with 14). Maybe this will be the only way I will ever get on a most finds list .... so wondering if there is any easy way for you to find out the top Wherigo finders?
  3. Thanks for that As another member of the committee that came up with the original idea ..... I am glad to hear this news. Thanks. I just hope that members of the UK Mega Event committees in the future continue to respect our orginal intentions for the 'Golden Ammo Can'.
  4. Reading back through the log history, it sounds like a copy TB was released in October 2009 (after 3 mths of no activity!) ... see owners log 10/13/2009. I assume there are now two TBs using the same tracking number, hence 'muddypuddles' found one in the wrong cache and grabbed it from you before you had a chance to retrieve it from GC21X01 (stash o' cache). One of them needs to be removed from circulation and returned to the owner. So best just to hang onto it until you get a response from the owner. PS - Please edit you post as you should not show the tracking number from the Travel bug ... only use the TB number from the cache page.
  5. I agree that they're earnt too fast. I've started going back through our finds today allocating where appropriate, but still have 559 votes available to use! LOL However, it is an excellent feature which I'm sure we'll be using when we go caching, and it's reassuring to see that we've earnt quite a few votes for our caches too (phew). That was my thought as well ... and I don't do 'numbers' I have gone through all my finds and have given them a favourite point if they are caches that I would 'highly recommend' someone to do if they were in the area. There are many more that I have enjoyed, but don't consider them as 'must do' caches. Therefore, I have only allocated 40 out of my 88 points so far. Maybe when the original idea of 1 point per 10 finds was first suggested (2002) then 10 caches was a high number of finds to achieve.
  6. You can only delete them when the Oregon is connected to your computer. Either delete the GPX files/single cache or download a new GPX file that doesn't contain those caches. See here for more information.
  7. It looks great on the iPhone - easy to read and nice icons.
  8. Congratulations to connie159 on finding your 1000th at the weekend at Rampart Rise - Gold Cache I only lent you my old Etrex last year to have a go at caching ..... and now you have overtaken me. Also belated congratulations for backpacking and caching the Cleveland Way in the summer ....... and being the "first to complete the Cleveland Way Earthcache series during a continuous walk (7.5 days)". Not sure what your final mileage was, but assume it was at least 110 miles.
  9. Disable it and put a note on the cache page. A lot of people don't read the cache pages .... or only do when they get to the cache. But also there will be other people that already have it downloaded via PQs .. so may still visit anyway.
  10. I had my contact details on the start up screen of my old Legend but never worked out if / how I could do that on the Oregon. Probably just me being dim. So, no - it's a gonner unfortunately. mj Instructions here .... unfortunately a little late for you
  11. Oh no Did you have your contact details in the start up screen? If so, keep your fingers cross that it fell off 'gently' and some kind soul found it and switches it on.
  12. I suppose he may have felt he was being helpful and saving you a maint visit - seeing that the previous log was a DNF. (and the only previous DNFs have been when it went missing in the past ... if he had access to those logs). I suppose, it also depends on how convinced he was that he was looking in the right spot. But saying that, personally, I wouldn't replace it (I also couldn't as I don't carry spare film canisters) I would log a DNF (and possibly an email to the owner with a description if I felt I was in correct place)
  13. I'm having a guess (although not sure how it connects to my last post) vix92008
  14. I reckon geohatter is from Yorkshire or Humberside ..... and prefers blue to khaki.
  15. At Weston Mega, the Golden ammo can was on display at the registration desk for the whole of the event .... until it was handed onto the Scottish committee at the closing ceremony. If I remember correctly, it then sat on the stage until Mega Scotland took it at the end of the day. So anybody could have discovered it if they had their eyes open Icarus and Berrow Cachers donated the can to the UK Mega Committee (and were reimbursed the cost of the TB) .... so I don't feel that they have any greater say over the rest of the committee members for the past three years. The fact that some committee members from the past Mega Events have already made their views known in this thread ... I feel that should be respected and the only go to Mega Events (or events associated to the Mega events).
  16. As chairman of the Mega 2009 committee, I thought I would give my opinion. At one of our committee meetings, we discussed the idea of having something to pass onto future Mega events and to hold a bit of history (rather than just a cache page). The idea of a time capsule was muted and Berrow Cachers mentioned that when she lived in the US they gave cachers a golden ammo can for milestones. We all thought this was a brilliant idea and gained permission from Groundspeak to use the Mega icon. Icarus donated the ammo can and his sons helped him to decorate it. The plan was that each of the UK Mega Event committees put something in the ammo can from that Mega Event and then hand it over to the next committee. It currently holds a set of activated geocoins from the first three UK Mega Events along with a few items for posterity. Our committee felt that it would become a much sought after Travel Bug that could be discovered by anyone – if you were luckily enough to spot it. It is the responsibility of the current UK Mega Event committee to keep it, and the contents, safe. Personally, I feel it will loose its ‘uniqueness’ if it is seen anywhere other than at the UK Mega events …… and is going to be even more valuable as time goes on. If anyone wants to discover it, they will need to attend and support the UK Mega Event.
  17. I was getting the same message earlier this evening (when trying to copy/paste a message - ok if I typed it in directly) and also had problems connecting to the forums again after I got the message. But all seems ok now.
  18. Another gaiters fan. Although, mine are short gaiters I tend to wear mine all year around (if have walking boots on) as in the summer are they great if walking in long grass/tick area etc. If they get muddy, then it is just a quick hose down of boots and gaiters when I get home.
  19. You might find this page helpful to learn more about your Dakota
  20. Have a look at Birdie's bookmark for visitors to Cornwall ... you may pick out some interesting ones that you can base a circular walk around.
  21. So did you forget your head torch the night you did our night cache
  22. That is the way I always used to look to see if there were any events in the area when I was working away from home. However, so many times I clicked on them to look at the details, only to be disappointed coz the event was already past. If only the event holders would archive their events. Currently in the UK there are 104 events listed .... of which 61 have already pasted (ok, some have only just happened ... but some are 6mths ago now)
  23. I have just had a quick look at the events coming up in your area. GC2FTFF in Ipswich (tonight) ... if you want to head over the border. GC2GJRV Tower Bridge (tomorrow night) GC2EWTG near Colchester (Weds 17th Nov) Have a look at the GAGB Calendar , or use the Advanced search on the Hide & Seek cache page or the newest in UK (or your region) on the right hand side of your profile page.
  24. I use mygeocachingprofile.com and haven't found any problems. According to the mygeocachingprofile site, you last uploaded your myfinds PQ on 22nd October (not sure what date the PQ was run) ... with 20 days consecutive days caching. I would recommend that you run a new myfinds PQ and upload that to see what results you get. If you still think it is a problem, double check the date on your logs .... and then contact mygeocachingprofile.com If there is a bug in the software, I expect they would be pleased to find out so that they can fix it. I don't use GSAK, so can't comment on that.
