  1. There's never a way to make it "one size fits all" and you will always have those that don't care for it because it's one way or the other. The intent of a challenge is what counts - not whether they can complete it from their desk at home & go out & sign the log like any other 1/1 cache. If it's a challenge, it should require the same effort for someone who has only 5 finds as one who has 5000 finds.
  2. A HUGE CONGRATS to 4FunCampers for hitting 1000!!! Woohoo!! WTG!
  3. Thanks for the great info. I'm still waiting for the green light from Wichita yahoo group. I had bazaar cattle on my list as it's on my route into Wichita. I was hoping someone could steer me toward a bookmark list or something similar for the "must do's" in Wichita. It would be great if that was put together for me & future visitors! Thanks Cantuland for your list. I'm keeping an eye out on the monthly breakfast event - I should be in town right around the time one is being held - hoping to talk my father-n-law into going.

    Montana

Bannack is a neat little Ghost Town, well preserved (in a state of arrested decay - but a bit touristy now) in the SW portion of the state. Another really great preserved Ghost is Elkhorn (nice & quiet & not a soul around on our visit) My last visit to these places was about 15 years ago, so hoping it hasn't changed much. Can't remember much about accomodations/food in Montana - nothing stands out.
  5. Wow. Thanks for all the links I'll still have to wait - maybe price will be down in a couple of years. I have to run my current GPS into the ground before I can justify the big bucks I'm still looking forward to playing with the Colorado at the event.
  6. Laughed so hard it hurt! You & me both!! Playing with the new Colorado is the "cake". Getting my hands on the coin would be the "icing". Winning a Colorado in a raffle would be the "big birthday present". Just dreaming, but wouldn't that be awesome if they did do something like that?..... Does Groundspeak need any hints on how to make this a mega event?!!! - there ya go.
  7. Just ordering accessories for my Garmin & ran across this on the Garmin website: garmin blog Cool pictures from Vegas. What made me post here is their launching of a Colorado/Wherigo limited edition geocoin. I just wonder if we can get our hands on them at the Seattle event....
  8. Without specifically saying - check the email I sent you on January 6th. It's my way of keeping things straight.
  9. Depends on the county, I'm guessing. Here in Snohomish, you can check land owner info on the county assessor's website. The map is not particularly user friendly, but I've figured most of it out. It's a bit labor intensive to check because you have to click on land parcels that you are interested in on the map, vs just viewing a map with all the lines/info drawn on it. Don't know if that helps you...
  10. How about me? bad knees sometimes & not in shape. I'll definitely be slow.
  11. Don't laugh too hard - but I did "read" these from cover to cover. I have such a fascination with maps & went over my Delormes (more than one state) with a fine tooth comb trying to find those elusive ghost towns a few years back. It was like Christmas to me when they published the Nevada Atlas...
  12. I know I said I'd stay out of the forums - but I can't & I tried. Too many interesting topics. Anyhow, I haven't had a chance to do Lord Hill, so if something gets put together in January, I'd love to go. The only day I can't is the 19th - but it looks like you're talking the 26th.
  13. I have removed the date restriction on the WA County Challenge cache due to a few complaints addressed in the forums. For those of you who have completed the Delorme Challenge & could not complete this challenge due to the dates of your finds, it's wide open now. Come get your smiley. Special Congrats to you all who completed this challenge the hard way. Due to the reduction in difficulty, I will most probably not be able to afford to continue this as a true treasure cache, so fair trades are appreciated. I don't have the "hard shell" necessary to take the beating I was getting on this - hope this will make the majority content. You all win
  14. What would you like to know?? Shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to answer your questions. Here is the link to the cache... which is waypoint GCZ313 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7c-2f7299bc2edb BigDaddyD For some reason, your link for the cache page is broken. Here's the cache page TDC
  15. Thanks - hope it's do-able in the early spring! Something I noticed - this forum isn't as active as our local one (Northwest) - seems a shame as it's a great place to discuss caching with the locals....
  16. Just reading through posts in other forums and found this. A novelist/geocacher with a book out combining both - just had to post it here.
  17. These are all great for cache ideas & trip planning. I love these books:
  18. Yep, the ones I had scheduled yesterday ran this morning. Now will those scheduled to run today go too? Hope you didn't have 5 of them come in this morning, or you won't see your scheduled ones for today until tomorrow... The 5 I had scheduled for today (which usually run by now) haven't come up yet. I used the "copy" workaround yesterday (THANK YOU for that solution). I'm hoping these will run today & not be delayed until tomorrow. Anybody from GS going to give us an update on this?
  19. Any "must do" caches in the Wichita area? We are currently planning a trip to Wichita to visit family - possibly in the spring and would like to get some info on great caches to find while there.
  20. My own personal thought: Lame=Micro in woods/bad coords/plenty of options for larger container. Do I think they need to be regulated/stopped/banned - No. To each his own. Just a personal pet peeve of mine. Do I hunt them? yes.... It's my sort-of-OCD about finding all caches within 10-20 mile radius of home .
  21. There's also nothing more frustrating than having your palm go dead out on a caching run. I picked up a back-up on ebay for $20 incl. shipping. Cheap insurance with gas prices the way they are! I don't like to run all the way home when I'm out caching just to print out cache pages. This has saved me several times!

It's up to you what you want to trade out. It's always a good idea to trade up or trade equal. If you come across a cache with lots of geocoins, don't take them all - take one. Travel bugs are meant to travel - no need to trade for them. But if it's a travel bug "hotel", don't take them all. Just friendly suggestions. Welcome to the addiction!!
  23. I didn't get to attend the meeting with the State Parks folks when that occurred, so I'm not aware of how smoothly that went. When the meeting with the Seattle Parks people occurs, I'm hoping noone from the caching community goes in there with a chip on their shoulder and an "I'll show them where they're ignorant" attitude. We have CITO events and I've seen one modified to an Ivy pull last year. Maybe it's time to see more of these events evolve from CITO into trails maintenance events, parks projects, etc. Maybe that's something that can be set up with the Discovery Parks people for this spring to show that cachers are a caring community.

    Sneak Peak

Alas, there isn't. But that Archive All button sure is nice. *edit to add picture of Team Misguided working hard* Ahhh! Now I know what currency Team Misguided likes! Next cache submittal, I'll have to overnight a "my little pony"
