  1. I love reading the logs that folks have left on my caches! If it's an especially nice log or them mention something I find interesting... I'll often will go to that person's profile and send them an email through the system thanking them for finding my cache and/or for writing such an interesting log. I don't think anyone expects a reply.... but hopefully they are pleased if they get one. It's all fun... and that's the point to me. Happy Caching!
  2. Thank you all so much for the encouragement! I've written several folks notes about their nice log posts since reading your suggestions!
  3. I've placed several caches recently and have had some very nice and interesting things written in the logs by folks finding them. Do you write a 'note' back to folks now and then.... or a message sometimes? I thought that a note they might not see unless they happened back on the cache page sometime. I just want to thank them for adding photos, etc. What do most COs do?
  4. I'm excited about little finger lights for swag and have put them in a few caches. They are fun.. tiny... and could be helpful when you have to look into a dark spot. Our Dollar Tree had them 4 for a $1 on a blister pack. But I just saw them on Amazon for less. It's been fun taking them on our camping trips, too. We play music so sitting around the campfire with everyone playing their instruments with finger lights on is fun! (I'm a 66 year old kid... but hope that families will have fun with them as well as cachers using them to find things in dark spots. )
  5. What wonderful ideas!!! I just put together a TB yesterday... found a spring to attach to it... and asked that it "spring" from cache to cache for our grandchildren to follow. However... after reading your ideas I've added that it would like for cachers to write a bit in the log something interesting about their town, city, or area of the world and pictures if it's convenient. Thank you for the ideas!
  6. They do. Here's how you do it: Oh my goodness!!! Thank you so much for this information!!!
  7. I'm looking forward to putting a few caches in both city and county parks near us. I looked up the parks and recreation dept. phone number for each on the web... and called. In both instances the person I spoke with had to pass my question up the ladder a bit... but I received verbal permission from each. I haven't placed the caches yet... but read that I needed the name of the person that I spoke with so I have that ready for when I fill out the form. Hope that it works as easily for you, too!!!
  8. I didn't start this thread... but your answer sure helps ME! Thank you! I have been using my Iphone... but hubby and I have been talking about getting a GPS unit. You've given me several reasons to do it!
  9. Thank you so much for all of the helpful answers! I will wait at least a month... keep an eye on future logs and see what happens. Again... I appreciate your help.
  10. Found our 3rd cache today. (Really having fun with this! And thank you all for the wonderful ideas and answers in these forum posts!!!) The cache was wet...ants and debris inside...it was a lock-n-lock but must have been left partially open. We didn't have much with us to clean it up so I posted a "Needs maintenance" however when I looked at the profile of the cache owner...he only has the one cache and hasn't found any caches since 2009. I hope he will get the notice and fix it up... but I wouldn't mind going back in a day or two to replace the log... clean it all out...put in new swag, etc. Here is my question.... If I replace a wet log..... should I dry it out and put it back later? Do cache owners want the original log... or does it matter? Thanks again for your help!
  11. LOVE this idea!!! With all of the families out there I'll bet they are thrilled to find it!
